Memorable Moments

Health and Wellbeing Week

Junior and Senior School pupils enjoyed an invigorating week of events in February, aimed at promoting the vital importance of physical and mental wellbeing.

Whether it was hearing from one of our numerous guest speakers including Dame Katherine Grainger, the ‘Walk of Champions’ Firewalk challenge for our S6 cohort, a visit from our furry Therapet friends, ‘Kindness Rocks’ art projects or insightful first aid workshops delivered by Senior School pupils, everyone got involved across the week. What a perfect way to head in to the mid-term break!

100 Days of Learning

Junior 1 pupils marked their 100th day at the Junior School with an unforgettable ‘Sharing the Learning’ event. Working from the theme ‘100 days smarter’, our Junior 1s created presentations sharing the many highlights of their learning from a highly successful first 100 days of High School life!

Parents and pupils had a brilliant time as they worked together on a number of ‘100’ themed learning activities, with children enjoying the chance to show off all that they have learnt so far at school.

Not that long ago...in a galaxy far, far away...

Third to Sixth Year Physicists enjoyed the amazing opportunity to meet former astronaut Anousheh Ansari at the Glasgow Science Centre!

A team of nine S1-S3 pupils competed in the FIRST Lego League international science and engineering competition at Edinburgh College.

Pupils looked at solar energy in their investigation of this year’s topic on how to improve the production, storage and distribution of energy, as well as building a robot as part of the challenge on the day, for which they received a special Judges Award for the best robot. Well done team!

Junior 1 STEM Club have been busy so far this term with our children beginning to discover more about the exciting world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

They put their technology skills to use with Sphero robots, built incredible objects with Lego and K’nex engineering challenges and learned all about solid and liquid states in order to make their very own ‘gloop’!

Great job Junior 1!

Annual Fraser Lecture - Dr Sabir Zazai OBE

We were honoured to be in the company of Dr Sabir Zazai OBE, Chief Executive of the Scottish Refugee Council, to take in an outstanding Fraser Lecture as part of the Sixth Year Lecture Series.

Dr Zazai recounted his journey fleeing war-torn Afghanistan as a young man to seek asylum in the UK and the numerous challenges he faced once residing here.

He went on to tell us about the help he provides today in his role as Chief Executive of the Scottish Refugee Council, rebuilding the lives of those in need. His message of the importance of endurance, resilience and hope in dark times was a poignant one and he called upon Sixth Formers to use their voices for positive change, to reclaim society’s narrative around refugees.

Thank you, Dr Zazai, for your inspiring and moving words.

Eco School

The School was awarded its fifth Eco Schools Scotland Green Flag Award in February.

Pupils from across the Junior and Senior School have worked hard throughout the session to successfully illustrate how sustainability has been embedded across both the curriculum and day-to-day High School life.
