How You Can Support Us

All donations to our fundraising projects are greatly appreciated, no matter how large or small. By making a donation, you will become part of our community of donors who understand and value our school’s capacity to advance the next generation.

We are trying to encourage and introduce a culture of engagement with our alumni, supporters and the wider High School community with the hope that this will in turn encourage a culture of philanthropy towards projects and campaigns that will be of benefit to our young people and also the wider Dundee community for years to come.

For many people, the first step onto the giving ladder is by making an Individual Gift and it is one of the most popular ways of making a donation to The High School of Dundee Foundation.

We are able to welcome Individual Gifts in a variety of ways, for example by cheque, cash, credit/debit card or by completing our online/hard copy giving forms.

Our Regular Giving welcomes people into a recurring and repeating philanthropic relationship with the School. Typically, our Regular Donors give monthly, quarterly or annually. This is the area where participation is the key as there is strength in numbers!

As Simple As A Cup Of Coffee

Small amounts really do add up. If everyone on our database were to give up the cost of a cup of coffee per day for a year, we would be able to raise an incredible and target-smashing amount. Assuming a cup of coffee costs £2.75, this would equate to £1003.75 per year per person. If you factored in each person on our database, this could generate around £130,487.50 every single year overall!

Applying Gift Aid to these donations would further increase the overall total per annum. A cup of coffee with Gift Aid applied would be £3.44 per day. Assuming everyone on our database could claim Gift Aid, this would total £1255.60 per person per year and would generate an overall yearly figure of £163,228.00!!

Understanding Gift Aid

The Gift Aid Scheme enables the School to claim tax relief on all donations made by UK taxpayers, automatically increasing the value of your gift by 25% and at no additional cost to you!

On our online and hard copy Giving Forms, there is the option to tick a box to confirm that you wish to include Gift Aid with your donation. By doing so, this allows us to reclaim basic rate tax on the value of any gift.

However, please note that if, in any tax year, you pay less Income Tax / Capital Gain Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all of your donations, it will be your responsibility to pay the difference.

What Legacy Will You Leave?

Making Your Mark

Through the generosity of Former Pupils, parents, staff and supporters of the School we have been able to support generations of young people who would otherwise not have had the opportunity to thrive, make their mark on the world and in turn make a difference to the lives of others.

We truly believe that we can inspire our young people to reach their true potential, to become true game changers and create a positive impact on our society. If you have been touched in some way by HSD – perhaps while you were a pupil, or through your interactions as an alumni, or whilst you were a member of our staff or even as a member of the wider community – we invite you to consider making HSD a beneficiary in your will so that our young people can continue to thrive.

Over the years, HSD has evolved and grown to meet the everchanging needs of our young people. We are committed to creating a vibrant hub where pupils have the best facilities to cultivate their education and shape their future.

Why I’m Leaving A Legacy

Now could be the perfect time to start thinking about what you would like to leave behind and create your own legacy. A planned gift could support a pupil in need and allow them to achieve their full potential. Likewise, support for our capital projects contributes towards amazing facilities for the benefit of generations to come.

It’s never too early to start thinking about what you could leave behind. Now could be the perfect time to create your legacy.

Every Gift Counts

Leaving a planned gift is a very personal decision. After considering the needs of your family and loved ones, you might want to leave a gift to the School. Your gift can include a monetary donation, or a part of your estate, property, works of art, a policy or trust.

When you leave a planned gift to HSD, you can specify how you would like your funds to be used, or let the School allocate the funds on your behalf. Are you interested in music, art or science? Perhaps you would like to support a certain area or activity. If you are unsure which area to support, you can direct your planned gift to a specific part of the curriculum, co-curriculum, the estate or the School in general (where we will direct your contribution to the area of greatest need).

“I’m really happy to have made a legacy to the High School of Dundee which I hope will benefit children for generations to come. It was easy to set up, tax free and the team in the Development Office were great, making the whole process smooth and straightforward.”

“My family and I have all benefitted from a High School education over the years. We had very different abilities and interests but each of us were able to find something that inspired our journey beyond the Pillars. I truly believe that without this influence we would not have had the confidence to pursue our dreams and be where we are today. For this reason, I would like to leave a legacy to make a contribution towards the lives of other families at our school.”
