OPENING CONVOCATION This is a long-standing tradition at High Point University that brings together faculty and administration to welcome new students and to set the stage for their education at High Point University. The ceremony begins with the procession of faculty in their academic regalia. The keynote address will be given by the University President, Dr. Nido Qubein. With the Opening Convocation ceremony, the incoming class begins an exciting educational venture—a learning process that occurs in and beyond the classroom—culminating in the completion of degree requirements and the traditional Commencement ceremony. Dresses, dress pants, collared shirts, slacks, khakis and dress shoes are appropriate. Jeans, flip-flops and tennis shoes are discouraged.
FOLLOWING THE CONVOCATION CEREMONY FAMILIES ARE INVITED TO TAKE A FINAL MOMENT WITH THEIR STUDENTS, SHARE A HUG AND CELEBRATE THIS MILESTONE TOGETHER.

AN EXTRAORDINARY EDUCATION IN AN INSPIRING ENVIRONMENT WITH CARING PEOPLE. THE TIME IS NOW. THE PERSON IS YOU.
CENTER FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT The Center for Community Engagement is the heart of service and social innovation at HPU. As the university’s hub for community partnerships, we empower students to create meaningful change right here in the city of High Point. Whether you’re looking to make a difference through handson service or dive into innovative solutions for real-world challenges, the CCE is your launchpad. We proudly support a range of dynamic programs including the Bonner Leader Program, Service Learning courses, the Social Innovation minor, and the Student-led Volunteer Center. We're also thrilled to serve as a host site for the AmeriCorps VISTA Program, connecting graduates with opportunities to serve full-time in local nonprofits after they complete their degrees. Our Bonner Leaders are a powerful group of students from diverse backgrounds who dedicate 220–300 hours each year to community service, leadership development, and civic engagement. Meanwhile, our Service Learning Program integrates academic coursework with hands-on service, allowing students to earn credit while making a direct impact—just check the course catalog to get started! If you're passionate about tackling complex social issues through creativity and collaboration, our 20-credit Social Innovation minor offers the perfect platform to explore sustainable solutions. Plus, our Student-led Volunteer Center brings together campus clubs and organizations to coordinate meaningful service projects across the city. And the journey doesn’t stop at graduation. Many of our students continue their commitment to service by joining AmeriCorps VISTA, where they work with local community partners for a year of impactful service. Join us and be part of a movement that’s transforming lives— starting with your own. To learn more or connect with a staff member, visit our website at www.highpoint.edu/community-engagement/

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH & CREATIVE WORKS (URCW) At High Point University, URCW exists to connect curious, motivated students with faculty mentors to create meaningful, collaborative projects. When you participate in research or creative work, you're not just exploring ideas — you're building the skills employers value most, like critical thinking, problemsolving, and creativity. In fact, more than 87% of employers say they're more likely to hire and advance graduates who have these kinds of hands-on experiences.
START STRONG WITH RESEARCH ROOKIES Your first step into HPU's culture of scholarship begins with Research Rookies, a voluntary two-semester program designed specifically for first-year students. Research Rookies helps you ease into the world of creative and scholarly work through activities, workshops, special events, and conversations with faculty and student researchers across campus. As a Research Rookie, you'll learn what research looks like in different fields and how to prepare to join an independent project with a faculty mentor — whether your interests lie in the sciences, arts, humanities, business, health, or anything in between.
WHY GET INVOLVED? Independent scholarly or creative work helps you develop broad, versatile skills that make you stand out - no matter what major you choose or what career path you pursue. These experiences are the ones that set you apart when you graduate and help you grow into a confident, capable leader in your field. For more information, talk to your Success Coach, contact Dr. Joanne Altman, Director of Undergraduate Research and Creative Work (urcw@highpoint.edu), or scan the QR code to get on a list to be contacted about upcoming Research Rookies Interest Meetings.

You can find more information about Duo at duo.highpoint.edu.

PROJECT HPU’s Plan for DISCOVERY Undeclared Students Nationally, an estimated 50% of students enter college undecided on their major. In addition, an estimated 75% of students change their major at least once before graduating. HPU’s Project Discovery provides the guidance and resources that students need to discover their passion and achieve their goals. Check out the eight “Light Bulb” Moments of Project Discovery—your guide to uncovering your academic passion.
1
IT STARTS WITH YOU AND YOUR SUCCESS COACH
As an undeclared student, you will partner with a Success Coach who is passionate about helping you discover a major that is a great fit for you, while helping you make positive connections with organizations on campus in which you have interest. This happens as early as the December before you enroll — for early decision admitted students — or the March before for regular admitted students. You will have support and guidance from a caring Coach who understands the various options available to you.
2
EXPLORING MAJORS AND CAREERS
Enroll in Exploring Your Major and Career Path, the one-credit course designed to help you explore your options. A Career Advisor will guide you through selfreflection and assessment tools such as PathwayU. You’ll also be able to connect with professionals in fields you are thinking about to ask thoughtful questions and learn more.
22
3
5
THEY'VE WALKED IN YOUR SHOES.
You aren’t the only student who entered college as undeclared — in fact, it is common across the entire nation! Sometimes we learn best from someone like us — a peer. First-Year Navigators are HPU students selected by the Office of Student Success to mentor first-year students. As an undeclared student, you will be connected with First-Year Navigators who were once undeclared, too. They know exactly what you are going through and will help you explore your options.
4
WHAT'S MY MAJOR WEDNESDAY
This event, hosted each semester by the Office of Student Success and the Office of Career and Professional Development, is a great opportunity to work with Success Coaches and Career Advisors to explore major and career options and discover the best fit for you!
WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH THIS MAJOR?
When you find a major that seems great, you will want to also understand what you do with that degree once you graduate. HPU’s Career Advisors and their Career Development website will help you understand how your major translates to real-world career paths.
6
CAREER & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ADVISORS: YOUR PEOPLE
You’ll see them in some of your classes and engage with them in Cottrell Hall. Your Career Advisor will explain the many resources available to you in the Career Center — the headquarters of the years of support and guidance that might lead to your face landing on the HPU Young Alumni Career Wall!
7
COFFEE CONNECTIONS, FACULTY MEET AND GREETS, AND FIRESIDE CHATS
Throughout each semester, faculty members host opportunities to meet with students who may have questions about a specific major. Casual in nature, these interactions allow you to connect with faculty, learn more about various majors and identify best-fit majors! You can attend as many of these meetings as you want, and you always have the opportunity to visit with a professor one-on-one to discuss opportunities within a major.
8
PEER CAREER ADVISORS
Visit with the Peer Career Advisors (PCA) to get additional support. PCAs help you get started crafting a resume that can lead to summer jobs and internships to explore hands-on! With convenient walk-in hours in the Career and Professional Development Office, there is continuous support to guide you on your journey.

YOUR CITY. YOUR UNIVERSITY. WHEN YOU VISIT THE CITY OF HIGH POINT, YOU IMMEDIATELY KNOW YOU ARE WELCOMED HERE. The university is celebrated in the Piedmont Triad International Airport when you arrive, and purple HPU flags fly across the city with the “We Heart HPU” signs that businesses proudly display. Through the “Our City. Our University.” program, local businesses in High Point proudly support the university through banners, flags, umbrellas and more that the university supplies. This welcomes the university’s 150,000 annual visitors and helps students feel connected when they frequent their favorite restaurant or retailer and see HPU represented. Nearly 100 local businesses are also “Passport Partners” who accept the HPU Passport Card as payment. This program connects local businesses with a thriving university community.
