Byron Pitts, Co-Anchor of ABC’s “Nightline” Works with HPU Students on the Art of Storytelling

Bryon Pitts, also known as HPU’s Journalist in Residence, has more than 20 years of experience as a news reporter and now works with HPU students across all majors. Focusing on the art of storytelling and emphasizing the importance of clear communication, he can regularly be found inside HPU’s state-of-the-art TV studio forming lasting relationships with students.

In a recent return to campus, Dee Ann Turner, HPU’s Talent Acquisition Expert in Residence, spoke to several student groups including members of the Strickland Women’s L.I.F.T. Fellowship Program, which provides networking, leadership, development, mentorship and coaching for female students interested in holding positions of leadership. She discussed three things she wished she had known before entering the world of work.

Students have turned out in big ways to cheer on the Panthers both on the court, at the field and beyond. Below is a small glimpse at athletic accomplishments and news coming out of HPU so far this academic year:

Not one ... not two ... not three, but FOUR Panthers were honored on United Coaches All-Region teams! Four members ties the second-most players named to All-Region teams in the program’s history. Seniors Holden Trent and Sebastian Chalbaud were selected to the All-South Second Team while junior Finn McRobb and freshman Jefferson Amaya were Third Team members.

It was an electric atmosphere in Millis Center as High Point Women’s Volleyball became the 2022 Big South Champions! The Panthers swept Campbell 3-0 to take the conference and earn themselves an automatic spot in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. Coach Ryan Meek on the win: “It is just a big team win. If you look up and down on our roster, everyone contributed. I think the coolest thing for me was our resilience.”

HPU has announced that women’s rowing will be added as the Panthers’ 17th NCAA Division I athletic program. The team becomes one of only three in the state, and one of six across Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Rowing is the perfect fit for High Point University with nearby Oak Hollow Lake serving as an amazing performance venue. The lake already plays home to HPU’s Club Rowing program, which has been in existence for decades.
