A Note To Our Pharmacy Community As we settle into the fall semester, October brings an exciting opportunity to celebrate our profession, strengthen our connections, and recognize the incredible impact pharmacists have on the lives of others every day. During American Pharmacists Month, we are reminded that pharmacy is more than a profession. It is a community built on compassion, service, innovation, and a shared commitment to improving health and well-being. This month, we look forward to Pharmacy Week activities that bring our students, faculty, staff, and preceptors together while highlighting the meaningful work happening across the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy. Whether you are participating in Employee Spotlightscampus events, supporting a classmate, mentoring a future pharmacist, or caring for patients and communities, your contributions help shape the culture that makes FWSOP In this edition, we shine the spotlight on our exceptional special. employees who go above and beyond every day. Connecting with Preceptors 2026 APPE Zone Fair Last month, our P3 students participated in our annual APPE Zone Fair, hosted by the Office of Experiential Education. Students were able to engage with preceptors from various zones across the state, ask questions and identify areas of pharmacy they may be interested in for rotations in the coming year. A special thank you to our faculty, staff and class of 2029 officers for ensuring the day went smoothly.

FWSOP & UNCG IPPE Event: Practicing Patient Safety Students from our School of Pharmacy and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Nurse Practitioner program partnered together for an IPPE event. The students worked in small groups to discuss and present patient cases where there was a medication safety issue. From this activity, students learned about the differences in how a nurse practitioner (prescriber) and a pharmacist approach these situations, and how they can collaborate to achieve the best patient outcomes. Check out a few photos from the event below.

Phi Lanbda Sigma National Positions P3 student, Parker Wyatt, was selected for two national Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS) leadership opportunities: the PLS Leader Academy and a Subcommittee Co-Lead position on the Chapter & Society Development Subcommittee of the National PLS Chapter Development Committee. Selection for the Leader Academy is competitive and application based. The Academy is designed for strong advocates of pharmacy leadership and the profession, using GiANT’s self-awareness process and practical tools to strengthen emotional intelligence, communication, time management, influence, and impact. The National PLS Chapter Development Committee supports the growth and effectiveness of PLS chapters. As a subcommittee co-lead, Parker will work alongside his fellow co-lead and six other pharmacy students from across the country to assess chapter needs and develop themed resources that chapters can use throughout the year to strengthen member engagement and improve their chapter activities. Way to go, Parker!
The P4 Corner Welcome to a space dedicated to you, P4s! Here you will find information such as wellness tips, celebratory news about other student pharmacists, podcast recommendations and more! You've Got This! Rotation Reminder 6 Ways to Build Your Resilience 1. Make connections. Good relationships with close family members, friends or others are important. Accepting help and support from those who care about you and will listen to you strengthens resilience. Some people find that being active in civic groups, faith-based organizations, or other local groups provides social support and can help with reclaiming hope. Assisting others in their time of need also can benefit the helper. 2. Avoid seeing crises as insurmountable problems. You can’t change the fact that highly stressful events happen, but you can change how you interpret and respond to these events. Try looking beyond the present to how future circumstances may be a little better. Note any subtle ways in which you might already feel somewhat better as you deal with difficult situations. 3. Accept that change is a part of living. Certain goals may no longer be attainable as a result of adverse situations. Accepting circumstances that cannot be changed can help you focus on circumstances that you can alter. 4. Move toward your goals. Develop some realistic goals. Do something regularly — even if it seems like a small accomplishment — that enables you to move toward your goals. Instead of focusing on tasks that seem unachievable, ask yourself, “What’s one thing I know I can accomplish today that helps me move in the direction I want to go?”
P4 Recognition: APPE Rotation Activity Konstantina Kortesis is enjoying time observing in the lab at her Atrium Health rotation. She shares "During my infectious disease elective, I had the opportunity to visit a microbiology lab and gain a better understanding of what happens behind the scenes. During the visit, I was able to observe the lab’s workflow, learn how specimens are processed, see how microbiology results are entered and reported, and understand how this information is communicated to help guide patient care." Thanks for sharing with us, Konstantina!
October Podcast Recommendation: Alumni Highlight This month's podcast recommendation highlights one of our student organizations, IPhO, and a 2026 FWSOP alum, Jenna Brady. Jenna Brady, PharmD is a first-year Medical Affairs Fellow at GSK in affiliation with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She shares her experience attending the IPhO Annual Meeting last year and how it helped prepare her for fellowship applications. She discusses how the Annual Meeting provides students with opportunities to connect with current fellows and industry professionals, learn more about various fellowship programs, and gain valuable insights ahead of the application process. This information is invaluable, so be sure to take a listen via the listed podcast streaming platforms.

5. Take decisive actions. Act on adverse situations as much as you can. Take decisive actions, rather than detaching completely from problems and stresses and wishing they would just go away. 6. Look for opportunities for self-discovery. People often learn something about themselves and may find that they have grown in some respect as a result of their struggle with loss. Many people who have experienced tragedies and hardship have reported better relationships, greater sense of strength even while feeling vulnerable, increased sense of self-worth, a more developed spirituality and heightened appreciation for life.
