Senior Achievements

From Fanatics Forward Advancing through the sports industry, Kelsey Morris, a 2018 High Point University alumna, began her career at Fanatics in sales support, progressing through merchandising, project management, and brand management. Her involvement in HPU’s Sport Management Association and sport marketing internship shaped her business approach and sparked her interest in licensing. She serves as Manager of 3rd Party Channels at Abercrombie & Fitch Co.

Throughout her career, Morris strengthened her relationship-building, teamwork, and presentation skills. One Fanatics experience involved coordinating a New York Knicks hotmarket truck in two days following a playoffclinching scenario, demonstrating her ability under pressure. She encourages students to master Excel, join SMA, and build presentation confidence, emphasizing technical proficiency, relationships, and collaboration in sports.

Leading Through Compliance Navigating the evolving landscape of collegiate athletics, Nick Muniz, a 2018 High Point University alumnus, developed his foundation through HPU Athletics, ambassador involvement, and an ACC internship. These experiences strengthened his communication skills and helped establish lasting professional relationships. Beginning his compliance career with the conference before moving to South Carolina and Ole Miss, he gained valuable industry knowledge and experience navigating the needs of multiple stakeholders. He later served as Director of Compliance at the University of Miami before advancing to Assistant Athletic Director in July 2026.

Throughout his career, Muniz has emphasized flexibility, time management, critical thinking, and relationship-building as essential leadership skills. His experience across multiple institutions provided valuable insight into collegiate athletics while preparing him to navigate administrative challenges and collaborate with stakeholders. These experiences reinforced adaptability and thoughtful decision-making. Muniz encourages Sport Management students to enjoy college, embrace relationships, and maintain balance, recognizing that personal and professional growth takes time. He reminds students that meaningful connections often shape future career opportunities.

Highlights and Events

WOMEN LEADERS IN SPORT

WLS As Women Leaders in Sport kicks off its semester of events, the club hosted its first monthly meeting on September 30, bringing members together to build connections, foster collaboration, and celebrate women in the Sport Management Department.

The meeting also introduced a new mentorship program designed to grow meaningful relationships, encourage professional growth, and empower women to thrive. Through mentorship and shared experiences, the initiative will help members build confidence, expand their networks, and support one another throughout their journeys in the sports industry.

SPORT MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION

SMA Kicking off the semester, the Sport Management Association held its first club meeting on September 7, drawing a strong turnout and filling the room with energy. The meeting also featured an engaging EC panel, giving students the opportunity to hear from fellow members and gain insight into their experiences within the Sport Management program.

Building on the momentum, SMA held its first event, a Community Service Project with Beyond Sports, on September 12. Students also welcomed aluma Giana Marielli, Account Executive at Zawyer Sports & Entertainment, as a guest speaker on September 17. With an exciting lineup, SMA is ready for an impactful semester!

Student Spotlight For this junior Sport Management student, a passion for sports has always been about more than the game. Since his freshman year of high school, he has coached and volunteered in sports, and his experiences have shaped the career he hopes to build. This past summer, he gained hands-on experience as a Marketing and Social Media Intern with Milford Parks & Recreation and recently joined the Sport Management Department’s social media team. “The Sport Management Department has opened my eyes in every way possible to the business side of sports,” he shared. “Coming to HPU made what I always wanted deep down into an actual path to my dream in the world of sports.” A major part of his HPU experience has 2 been the people who have supported him, especially Dr. Lukow, his academic advisor and mentor. He also fondly remembers meeting Charlie Freeman of the Orlando Magic and connecting with him afterward for career and life advice. The experience reinforced his dream of one day working in the NBA. As he looks toward his 2028 graduation, he hopes to begin his career in marketing, social media, or sales and eventually grow into a leadership role in sports. His advice to fellow students is simple: “Take every opportunity you can; you never know what little step or experience might open the door to your dream.”

INTERNSHIP PANEL Student Internship Panel The Sport Management Department hosted panels for Introduction to Sport Management, providing opportunities for peer learning. Alex Connors, Gabi Silva, Nate Neubauer, Kevin Mitchell, Wallace Reese, and Jack Paris shared insights on internships, networking, navigating the industry, and building connections. Their experiences highlighted mentorship and experiential learning as students explore careers and prepare for success in sport.

The Sport Management Department hosted a Sport Law student panel featuring Nate Neubauer, John Garrity, and Jacob Welch. The panel focused on the intersection of law and sports, giving students valuable insight into legal issues within sport and potential career paths. The conversation reinforced mentorship and learning from peers while helping students better understand opportunities at the intersection of sport and law.

Senior Achievements Anticipating graduation in May 2027, Alysha Brown has made the most of her time at High Point University. Through her campus involvement in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Nido Qubein School of Communication Advisory Board, and professional experiences with the ACC, Wyndham Championship, and HPU Women’s Basketball, Brown has built a strong foundation for her future in sports. One of her most memorable experiences was traveling to Italy and Greece with the Sport in Society class. Another cherished highlight was serving as a student manager for HPU’s Division I women’s basketball team when they celebrated its Big South Tournament victory.

Following graduation, Brown plans to continue her education by pursuing a Master of Business Administration before embarking on a career in Human Relations. As an aspiring leader in the sports industry, she is committed to expanding her knowledge and preparing for success. She encourages future Sport Management students to embrace opportunities, challenge themselves, and remain eager to learn. Brown also emphasizes the importance of enjoying the journey and cherishing memories made along the way. Her time at HPU has shaped her personal and professional aspirations, and she looks forward to continued growth and making a lasting impact in the sports industry.
