HOUSING LOCATIONS High Point University has a wide variety of housing options available to undergraduate students. From suites and apartments to townhomes and houses, HPU has something for everyone. With options located across campus, students can find a community that best fits their lifestyle and needs.

HOUSE STYLE LIVING Offers a residential experience where students live together in a stand-alone house. Bedrooms may be single or double occupancy, and residents share common areas such as living rooms, kitchens, porches/decks, driveways, and bathrooms. This style emphasizes community living while providing a home-like atmosphere.

TOWNHOUSE STYLE LIVING Features single or multi-level residences with a mix of single and double occupancy bedrooms and shared common spaces.

Students typically live with several other residents, offering increased independence while maintaining a connected, residential feel. Townhomes include in-unit laundry and outdoor spaces; such as porches or backyards.

SUITE STYLE LIVING Suite-style living includes one or more bedrooms that are either connected by a shared bathroom or access to a shared bathroom within the unit. Some suites also include a small common living area and/or a kitchenette. This style offers a balance of privacy in individual bedrooms while sharing facilities with a smaller group of peers, making it ideal for students seeking both independence and a close-knit community.

APARTMENT STYLE LIVING Apartment-style living provides private and double bedrooms within the unit, including a common living room, full kitchen, dining area, and bathroom.

COMMON DEFINITIONS Housing Freeze - A range of dates when students are not allowed to make changes to their housing assignment.

HPU Housing Portal - A portal for students to access housing applications, complete break contracts and make housing selections for upcoming academic terms or years.

MEAL PLANS The university dining plan is designed to meet the needs of both residential and commuter students. For residential students, the cost of the dining plan is included in the comprehensive housing and dining fee, and all residential students are defaulted to the 14-meal plan. This selection can be changed through my.highpoint.edu during the meal plan change window.

Commuter students have the flexibility to choose an optional meal plan. The Commuter Meal Plan includes 75 meals and $200 in Dining Dollars per semester, along with four meals redeemable at 1924 PRIME, Alo, or Kazoku.

*Tier 1 Housing + Meal Plan + NC State Dining Tax The published rate is a preliminary rate that is subject to change by the Board of Trustees. Final rates are approved by the Board at the March 2026 Board Meeting preceding the fall semester for which the new rates apply.

HOUSING ACCOMMODATIONS The Office of Accessibility Resources and Service (OARS) aspires to empower students with disabilities to receive equal access to education and all aspects of university life. Students who would like to receive housing accommodations while enrolled at High Point University must self-identify as a student with a disability by formally registering with OARS. Registration, documentation and participation in an interactive process are required for all requested accommodations. For approved housing accommodations before annual deadlines, the Office of Student Life will ensure you have equal access, but it does not guarantee a specific residence hall or room within a residence hall.

All requests for accessible housing and documentation must be submitted to and approved by OARS by February 13, 2026 to receive priority housing. If a request is made or accommodations are approved after the deadline, an accessible housing assignment is subject to availability and is not guaranteed.

Students currently utilizing their Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) housing offer will have their accommodations automatically renewed. Students who desire adjustments to prior accommodations or who previously declined their ADA housing offer and determine it is needed for the 2026-2027 academic year must inform OARS of this prior to February 13, 2026.

Students who are both registered with OARS and approved for a housing accommodation(s) will be offered a housing assignment that addresses the functional limitations of their disability and meets the requirements of their accommodation(s). All residential properties are considered on campus. Housing preferences will not be able to be considered in the placement decision.

Accept: If a student accepts the accommodation(s), they will be assigned to that location at a standard Tier 1 room rate.

Decline: Students who decline their accommodation offer will participate in the traditional housing selection process.

Appeal: Students who disagree with the initial accommodation(s) or assignment have the opportunity to decline their offer and contact OARS to request adjustments. Additionally, they may file a complaint through the Student Grievance procedure.

Approved accessible housing assignments are directly communicated by the Office of Student Life, not through the online room reservation process.

Although the application for accessible housing and approved accommodation(s) are made through OARS, all other policies and procedures of on-campus living apply.

HOUSING SELECTION PROCESS Housing Deposit To participate in the housing selection process, students must have paid the $750 housing deposit by February 12, 2026. The housing deposit must be paid separate from any tuition payments. Payment of the deposit does not guarantee a housing space at High Point University.

Students may log onto the HPU student portal at my.highpoint.edu. Select Deposits from the menu bar, then select Housing Deposit Payment.

Please note: The housing deposit only holds a room reservation until the first due date for Fall term bills. If a student’s tuition bill is not paid by the due date, their housing assignment will be removed. Once their account is paid in full, they will be assigned to an available room. Students with outstanding balances on their account will not be able to participate in the housing selection process. Please allow 24-48 hours after payment for access to the housing portal.

If you request a refund of your housing deposit, refunds will not be processed until after June 1, 2026. Housing deposit refund decisions are determined by the HPU Business Office. Students cannot receive a refund for their housing deposit if they have an outstanding balance or if they maintain enrollment at High Point University.

Homesteading Process Definition: In specific locations, a student currently living in a room during the Spring 2026 semester may renew and retain that same housing assignment for the following academic year.

The following criteria makes a student ineligible to homestead: Students who are on housing or disciplinary probation.

Students who received destruction/damage charges with restitution amounts totaling $500 or more.

Students who received a second unauthorized party sanction or charged with an unauthorized pet violation within the current academic year.

Note: If the disqualifying sanction(s) occurs after the space has been homesteaded, the assignment will be removed.

Step 1: Homestead your Room Assignment February 16 & 17

Eligible students will be able to log into the Housing Portal to homestead/select their current Spring 2026 housing assignment for the 2026-2027 academic year.

This is a time-sensitive process and cannot be completed after February 17.

Step 2: Move within your Housing Unit/Suite February 18

Students who have homesteaded their current bed space and desire to move within their suite/unit into a vacant bed space will have the ability to log back into the portal and make changes.

Students must have completed Step 1 to be able to move within their homesteaded unit.

The ability to move within unit is available to all students who decided to homestead in the unit and is operated on a first-come, first-serve basis.

We STRONGLY encourage students speak with their roommates and suitemates about their plans for homesteading.

This is a time-sensitive process and cannot be completed after February 18.

Step 3: Pull in Other Students to Your Housing Unit/Suite February 19 & 20 Students who participated in Step 1 can pull eligible students without a 2026-2027 housing assignment into any open bed space within their unit by making a group via the Housing Portal.

Students who wish to be pulled in are still required to meet the homesteading eligibility criteria and must have paid their housing deposit by the deadline.

The ability to pull others into vacant beds is available to all students who decided to homestead in the unit and is operated on a first-come, first-served basis.

We STRONGLY encourage students to speak with their roommates and suitemates about their plans for homesteading.

In order to pull student(s) in, the student who homesteaded their room will go online via the Housing Portal and create a group.

The group will consist of the students who they want to assign to the opening(s) within the suite. Once the group is formed and confirmed, the student who formed the group/homesteaded will be able to go online and assign the group members (the students they desire to pull in) to their unit/suite.

When you add a person to a group (or have been added to a group) during homesteading, it does not guarantee an assignment during the process. It is up to the group leader to form the group and assign group members into available bed spaces.

If students miss the deadline to homestead their current assignment, they do not have the opportunity to homestead later and will need to go through the traditional room reservation process.

Note: Current singled out double occupancy rooms are not subject to be singled out for the 2026-2027 academic year at this time. If you have an opening in your double occupancy room on the last day to add/drop classes in Fall 2026 you will be given the opportunity to pay the additional investment to single out the space.

GROUP FORMATION March 9-13 Definition: Students may create a group of up to four to receive a shared housing selection timeslot, based on the person with the highest credit hours in the group, to attempt to select housing together through the Housing Portal.

Students can form a group (up to four students) to be assigned a housing timeslot to try to live together. The housing timeslot the group receives will be based on the person with the highest credit hours. Students will need to use the housing portal at www.highpoint.edu/myhome and form groups.

One person will create a group and add others to the group. If you are added to a group that you are not interested in being part of, you can remove yourself from this group. The person that creates the group will be the group leader. This person does not have to be the person with the highest number of credit hours. The group leader will have the ability to select housing for all members in the group during the assigned slot. Students can also log on individually during their group’s timeslot to select housing.

Reasons students may not appear in the roommate search: They have either been assigned a housing assignment for the Fall 2026 semester They have not paid their housing deposit They are already part of a housing group They are not eligible to go through the housing process Please note, forming a group does not guarantee that you will be able to select housing together. This will be based on availability.

HOUSING TIMESLOTS Begins March 20 Individuals/groups are assigned a timeslot based on the individual in the group who has the highest number of credit hours. If there are students/groups with an equal number of credit hours, GPA will determine the order.

Timeslots will be announced via email each week starting on March 20. Students will need to log onto the portal during their assigned time slot to maximize their housing selection options. If a student misses their time slot, they can log on at any time after their timeslot to select housing.

During an assigned time slot, students will be able to view all rooms and locations that are available and select a bed space.

WAITLISTS Definition: Waitlists are available for every tier, room type, and location across the upperclassmen communities. Waitlist offers are processed in the order in which they are received.

After students have selected their housing assignment, they will also have the option to place themselves on up to 6 waitlists through the Housing Portal.

Students have the ability to check their position on their waitlists at any time via the Housing Portal.

The Office of Student Life will make waitlist offers by phone through the waitlist until July 31 based on availability.

We encourage students to ensure their voicemail is set up to receive messages and their mobile phone number is correct on my.highpoint.edu.

Any student who desire to make a room change after the start of the semester will work with their Community Director after the housing freeze ends to look at available options.

3-step approval process

ROOM SWAPS March 13-July 31

Definition: Students with a 2026-2027 room assignment can swap rooms by advertising and communicating their interest through the HPU housing portal and searching for other students who are also interested in swapping rooms.

The ability to Room Swap is a student lead process that requires multiple steps.

Advertise your room in the Room Swap portal and select Room Swap preferences Placing your room up for swap does not remove you from your space. You must agree and confirm a room swap to have another student take your space You may removed yourself from the Room Swap portal at any time Review potential Room Swap matches and begin messaging other students Complete the swap process

Housing Freeze July 31-August 25 In order to allow for a smooth move-in, as well as to allow students to settle into the new academic year and complete any necessary Residence Life processes like roommate workbooks, community meetings, and Occupancy Verification, students will be unable to make any changes to their 2026-2027 housing assignment until after the freeze releases. Students should contact their Community Director to request a room change after the freeze ends.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: Am I required to live on campus?

All undergraduate students are required to live on campus unless they have been approved for Commuter or Off Campus status.

Eligibility requirements are listed on page 4 and on the housing website Students must reapply and be approved each academic year Students who have not fulfilled their on campus residency requirement or completed the application will be charged the Tier 1 housing rate Q: What is included in undergraduate housing?

Our undergraduate housing options include a variety of amenities and conveniences.

All options can utilize the accessible HPU shuttle transportation, complimentary wireless internet and included utilities, and all units are fully furnished.

In-unit laundry, kitchen or kitchenette with standard appliances, common dining and living areas, and shared bathrooms by residents of the unit are notable features that are unique to each community.

Q: During the academic year, how do I change housing assignments?

To request a room change during the academic year, students should contact their Community Director (CD), Graduate Resident Director (GRD), or Graduate House Manager (GHM) who will assist in facilitating a move.

Q: Who do I contact for questions about housing costs, meal plans, billing and payment methods?

Contact the Office of Student Accounts at 336-841-9089 for all questions related to housing costs, accessing the Student Account Center, meal plan options and how to make payments.

Q: Can I still live on-campus if I drop below 12 credit hours (part time status)?

The Office of Student Life grants a one-time exception for students who drop below 12 credit hours to remain in oncampus housing.

If a student drops below 12 credits a second time, they will be required to move out of university housing.

The Office of Student Life staff will need to be notified if a student is dropping below 12 credit hours.

Q: If I do not need housing for Fall 2026 (LOA, transfer, study abroad, etc.), how do I apply for housing in Spring 2027?

Students returning for the spring semester will participate in Spring Housing Selection.

Be sure to complete all necessary steps to return to HPU and submit your housing deposit.

Communication with instructions and timelines will be sent via email to eligible students.

Students will enter the housing portal to select from available spaces.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: If I’m in an accelerated graduate program (i.e., 3+2, 2+4, etc.), are there any implications for housing?

Students enrolled in accelerated programs are eligible for graduate housing after completing 96+ credit hours or six consecutive semesters of on-campus residency.

Once eligibility is met, students may choose to move into graduate housing or remain in their undergraduate assignment until they complete their undergraduate degree.

After moving into graduate housing, students cannot return to undergraduate housing.

Q: I have been accepted to a graduate program for the spring semester. Can I stay in my undergraduate fall assignment for the spring?

Yes, students who graduate in December may remain in their undergraduate housing assignment for the following spring semester.

Q: May I bring a pet?

No, pets are not allowed in the residence halls at High Point University.

Animals must be approved as an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) through the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services (OARS). Contact the OARS team at 336-841-9026 or visit highpoint.edu/OARS. An animal that is not approved through the OARS office will be considered an unauthorized pet and will need to be removed from campus.

Q: Does HPU offer family housing?

High Point University does not currently offer family housing for students with spouses and/or children.
