Highline Autos Porsche unveiled a thrilling concept as part of the 70th anniversary of its sports cars: the 911 Speedster Concept is a drivable vision of a particularly exciting open-top sports car.

It links the very first Porsche 356 “No. 1” Roadster, which received its operating permit on June 8, 1948, with today’s Porsche cars. The purist concept and historically accurate execution of the 911 Speedster Concept clearly reflect the essence of the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer. All elements of the car emphasize a pure driving experience. The powertrain under the two-tone painted body of the concept is derived from current GT models. It was developed at the Porsche Motorsport Center in Weissach, which is the birthplace of the 911 GT3, the 911 GT2 RS and, most recently, the 911 GT3 RS. The 911 Speedster Concept celebrated its world premiere as part of the official “70 years of Porsche Sports Cars” anniversary celebration in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen.

and shorter side windows. These features give the concept an even more pronounced stance with a very low fly line, which is reminiscent of its predecessors, for example the Porsche 356 Speedster. A special rear decklid made of carbon fiber connects behind the front seats, covering supplemental safety bars and featuring two “streamliners”, a traditional element of this sports car design since the first 911 Speedster was introduced in 1988. Two contrasting black slats between the “streamliners” add an aerodynamic touch, and a transparent Plexiglas™ wind deflector features an etched ‘70 years of Porsche’ logo.

Like the historic original, the 911 Speedster Concept also features a lightweight tonneau cover in place of a convertible top. This cover protects the interior from rain when parked and is attached using eight Tenax™ fasteners. The Speedster philosophy also defines the interior, where the navigation, radio and air conditioning systems have all been removed to reduce weight. The Full Bucket Seats are made of carbon

The body of the concept car was adopted from the 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. The fenders, front trunk lid and the rear decklid cover of the concept are made of light-weight carbon fiber reinforced polymer composite material. Traditional GT Silver Metallic and White paintwork harks back to Porsche’s early race cars – as do many of the other carefully crafted details, such as the 50s-style central fuel tank cap positioned in the front trunk lid, the classic Talbot® shape of the exterior mirrors or the unique design of the headlights. Transparent and opaque surfaces on the headlight covers resemble the shape of an “X” and are a nod to a practice prevalent in Porsche’s early years in motorsport. At the time, the headlights were taped up before races to protect them against stone chipping and to prevent the glass from shattering. The wide B-pillars and the rear fascia are decorated with milled, gold-plated Speedster lettering.

Underneath the skin, the 911 Speedster Concept features state-of-the-art components. The chassis is essentially derived from the 911 GT3. Imposing 21-inch Fuchs-design rims with contrasting high gloss polished petals details are unique to the 911 Speedster Concept. It is the first time that Fuchsdesign wheels have been fitted with center locks. The GT

development department also supplies the exhaust system with titanium tailpipes and the powertrain, which includes a six-speed manual transmission. The naturally aspirated flat-six engine in this minimalist concept study delivers over 500 horsepower and revs up to 9,000 rpm.

The history of Porsche Speedster models began in the United States Speedster variants of sports car models, which combine open-top driving pleasure with incredibly distinctive driving dynamics, have been part of the Porsche company history since 1952. The forefather of Porsche Speedster models, the 356 1500 America Roadster, had an aluminum body manufactured entirely by hand. It weighed about 130 pounds less than the 356 Coupe and its top track speed of 108 miles per hour with its 70-hp four-cylinder flat engine was impressive at the time. Featuring slot-in curtain windows for the doors, a folding top and lightweight bucket seats, this car developed exclusively for the US market was built just 16 times and already embodied several key elements of the Speedster design.

By 2010, eight different production and special models bearing the “Speedster” name had been created. The 356 A 1500 GS Carrera GT Speedster represented a highlight in

Butcher joins the rapidly growing Maggiore Group, based in Scottsdale. The company also owns the original Tomaso’s Italian Restaurant in Phoenix, opened by Tomaso in 1977; Tomaso’s When in Rome, north Scottsdale; and three Hash Kitchens, two in Scottsdale and, just opened, in Chandler.

Two more Sicilian Butcher restaurants are expected to debut this year.

Just off corner on Tatum Boulevard north of Greenway Road, the recent addition to the Maggiore family of restaurants replaced the Modern Grove restaurant in December 2017 with a knock-down renovation, adding garage doors and a chillercooled and covered outdoors seating. Any night, weekends and weekdays, the patio is packed.

“Sicilian Butcher combines Tomaso’s and Hash Kitchen, familiar traditional Italian food and innovative dishes with a twist,” says Joey, who employs about 60 at the restaurant.

“People come in for different things and for different reasons,” he explains. “We want Sicilian Butcher to become a household name, a part of our family of restaurants: Hash

Lauren Smith, sous chef for The Maggiore Group, and Marie, our server, brought us a variety of samplers, beginning with a robust salad: Flora’s: baby field greens, arugula, beefsteak tomatoes, Roman artichokes, roasted peppers, Sicilian olives, shaved Parmigiano, toasted pine nuts and balsamic vinaigrette.

Next up was one of the most popular dishes at SB: an appetizer, the Charred Octopus, with shaved fennel, poached potatoes, pickled red onion, Sicilian olives, Calabrian chilies and citrus oil. “It’s such a unique dish and not easy to find here in the Valley, so we have quite a following for it,” Maggiore says.

Another appetizer, the Arancini, is a trio of saffron rice balls, fresh mozzarella, Bolognese meat ragu (it’s the surprise inside) and English peas.

For shared meals with friends and family and snacking, the Charcuterie Boards have been the “go-to” choices. The one we were offered, the Cured Meat & Cheese, includes artisanal cured meats from the exhibition refrigerator, such as salami and provolone, and goat and honey brie cheese, beefsteak tomatoes, pickled fennel and cornichons.

We also enjoyed one of the Schiacciata, Flatbreads: the Smoked Salmon, with dill mascarpone, red onions, crispy Volume XV, Number 07

capers and micro arugula.

The marquee entrée at Sicilian Butcher is the Craft Meatballs, with 15 options and eight sauces. The adventure begins by choosing which meatball, continues with the sauce, then the bottom or bed.

We sampled three, starting with The Tomaso’s Sicilian; the meatballs combine ground veal, prime beef and pork, and the dish is served with pine nuts, raisins, pecorino cheese, garlic and fresh herbs. A bed of mafaldine, or mafalde, a ribbon-shaped pasta similar to fettuccine, excellently complemented the meatballs.

As we neared pleasant satisfaction, we tried the Sicilian Sausage, ground pork, Auricchio provolone, peppers, onions and fresh herbs on the excellent Vodka Cream Sauce, including San Marzano tomato, shallots and chili flakes.

Another option, Lump Crag & Shrimp, includes garlic, Meyer lemon, fresh herbs, whipped Boursin cheese and bread crumbs. This was served on the Pamigiano Cream Sauce, with nutmeg.

A finish was the Olive Oil Cake Tiramisu, with espresso and Kahlúa, sweet mascarpone and dusted with cocoa powder and chocolate-covered espresso beans. Can we add fudge?

Of course, you can enjoy a menu of fine wines and beers, craft cocktails, espresso, cappuccino or just a cup of joe.

“Please stop by,” Maggiore says. “There really is nothing else like this anywhere in the Valley.”

Altered Carbon Online Car Sales Company Carvana Opens Largest Car Vending Machine in Tempe written by Nick Esquer If you’re driving down the 202 in Tempe you’ve probably craned your neck over to the south side of the freeway to catch a glimpse of Tempe Town Lake. The boats, the shimmering water, the reflections from the State Farm building, the broad side of “A” Mountain--there’s always something to take your mind off the traffic.

Now, drivers have something else to steal their looks as a neon bright glass case has been erected off Rural and the 202. The freshly-minted nine-story tower is a car vending machine propped up Carvana, the Tempe-based online car sales company that went public last year. The e-commerce Volume XV, Number 07

platform, headed by young CEO Ernie Garcia, Jr., and guided by his father, Ernie Garcia, Sr., of parent company DriveTime, has given another option to traditional car buying.

Carvana is done completely online. From browsing for the right car to having it dropped off at a location of your choice to being able to pick it up from the vending machine like a sandwich from the break room, Carvana is offering a unique car-buying experience.

The tower holds up to 34 pre-owned vehicles and provides car buyers a truly different way to get their vehicle. The cars are purchased online at Carvana.com and the customer

is given the opportunity to either have the car shipped to them or to pick it up from the closest vending machine. This is the third opening this month for Carvana and has already hit markets of all sizes across the country. Some traditional car dealerships have even started offering the same kind of experience, offering interested car buyers the opportunity to have their car delivered.

But Carvana is way ahead of the curve in this new age of digital commerce. It’s seen a huge boom in interest and business since its inception in 2012. Think of it as shopping on Amazon, sifting through more than 10,000 available vehicles to find the right one. Carvana has expanded its inventory to include luxury cars and electric vehicles such as Tesla and Lexus.

Other locations that house a car vending machine include Austin, Nashville, Raleigh, Charlotte, and Houston, to name a few. When a customer arrives at a vending location they receive an oversized, commemorative coin to activate the process and delivery of the car to the delivery bay. It’s fun, sure, but it only takes a few minutes. The big draw here besides the fun factor?

It’s completely replacing the need for car salesmen, which for some people may not be the most attractive element to the overall experience.

Carvana touts a seven-day return policy, allowing customers to send it back or drop it back off if it doesn’t fit their life. The cars go through an extensive 150-point inspection process and are certified. The cars have to have never been in an accident and have no frame damage.

These outputs deliver astonishing levels of performance: 0-62mph takes just 2.9 seconds, matching the acceleration of the revered McLaren 675LT Super Series model (0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds). 0-124 mph is achieved in a remarkable 8.2 seconds and the 600LT can continue gathering speed to a top speed of 204mph.

Inspired by the renowned McLaren 675LT models and their iconic ‘Longtail’ McLaren F1 GTR racing predecessor, the new addition to the LT family has all the physical hallmarks of a true McLaren ‘Longtail’, including an extended front splitter, lengthened rear diffuser, fixed rear wing and elongated silhouette – in this case by 2.9 in compared to a McLaren 570S Coupé. Extensive use of carbon fibre – including for the monocoque chassis that is some 25 percent stiffer than a comparable aluminum chassis and for the new aerodynamic features– together with lightweight materials throughout the track-focused cockpit, helps the McLaren 600LT to achieve a lightest dry weight of 2,749 lbs and equivalent power-to-weight ratio of 474 bhp/ton. With the optional Super-Lightweight Carbon Fibre Racing Seats developed for the McLaren Senna fitted, the 600LT weighs 220.5 lbs less than a 570S Coupé – a remarkable reduction that delivers tangible benefits in every aspect of the car’s performance.

The remit of any McLaren ‘Longtail’ model is to engage and excite to the absolute maximum, encouraging – and enabling – drivers to fully exploit the dynamic performance inherent in the car. The ethos underpinning every aspect of the development of the McLaren 600LT was therefore a determination to deliver the purest possible connection between car and driver. To this end, the McLaren 600LT has lighter and stiffer suspension components from the McLaren 720S, the adoption of the forged aluminum double wishbones and uprights not only improving dynamic capabilities, but also reducing weight by 22.5 lbs. Ride height is reduced by 8mm over other Sports Series models and front track is increased by 10mm, to deliver a more precise driving experience. Brown The trio of top cars at the 3rd Annual Barrett-Jackson Northeast Auction June 20–23 brought almost $700,000, record total sales approached $27 million and charity vehicles raised $1.245 million.

During the four-day event, which debuted Mohegan Sun’s Expo Center in Uncasville, Connecticut, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions® sold 662 vehicles –– a 99.25 percent sell-through rate –– and 457 pieces of automobilia brought more than $832,000.

“Once again the energy and passion at our Northeast Auction has been incredible to experience,” says Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. Established in 1971 and headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, BarrettJackson also produces annual auctions in Scottsdale, Arizona; Palm Beach, Florida; and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Couture Comes in a Kitchen From Bentley Home Designed by architect Carlo Colombo the Bentley home is enhanced by the new kitchen environment, where the excellence of materials and refined finishes reflects the DNA of the leading luxury British car maker.

A kitchen with couture attitude, the Buxton is defined by a linear design enhanced by an exquisite richness of finish.

The central island, made of larch, houses the Calacatta Gold marble top flared at the corners and characterised by a perimeter groove.

The dynamic surface creates a movement effect, while manual sliding panels create an elegant snack-top and at the same time reveal a steel under-top and the hi-tech cooking module. The absence of handles in the doors and the recessed opening emphasise the cleanliness of the shapes.

The new Bentley Home kitchen is enhanced with a brushed larch storage unit that contrasts with the smoked and diamond pattern cut-glass doors.

Elegance, combined with luxury and contemporary design are the hallmarks of the Bentley Home collection at the 2018 edition of Salone Internazionale del Mobile. A line of furniture and accessories embodies a superb reinterpretation of the Bentley design code, enhanced by the savoir faire and excellence of Italian manufacture.

A series of settings delineates an exclusive residence with modern flair. The wall claddings in silk, marble and wood alternate with leather boiserie: an atmosphere defined by the contrast of neutral surfaces and brighter shades of red, orange, brown.

The design of the collection focuses on proportion and shape, defining concepts which are balanced and rational in their volume, yet rich in details. New patterns and sinuous geometries are emphasised by metal details inspired by the interiors of the new Bentley Continental GT, as in the new Bampton sofa, whose silhouette is highlighted by a metallic profile.

The Bentley style is also reflected in the choice of materials.

The new larch wood, with its warm shades and dark veins, is skilfully modelled to embellish sofa and seat frames, alternating the briarwoods of the collection, or combining it with leather in table and coffee table surfaces.

The upholstery fabrics comprise soft velvets in silk and cotton, while high-performance chenille and Alcantara fabrics worked with a chevron motif in colour patterns characterised by delicate and pastel shades. Stone-grey and quartz-grey tones are combined with natural shades, used to define a collection with a distinctive contemporary character.

Bampton sofa The new Bampton sofa features a design inspired by the dashboard of Bentley cars. The bodywork has a soft shape with harmonious lines, in which the backrest slopes smoothly into the armrest. A large and comfortable seat upholstered in leather fits into the frame, of polished larch wood, marked in the profile by a thin metal thread.

M alvern chair The Malvern chair, with its wide seat, is a tribute to the precise geometries of Bentley cars. Slender legs support the frame, while a combination of shades and different finishes on the backrest highlight its exquisite craftsmanship. A seat emphasised by the contrast between the materials, leather and briarwood, skilfully combine with each other.

Stowe sofa Stowe is the sofa marked by geometric lines enhancing its functionality. The asymmetric play of the armrests and the clear proportions suggest a timeless elegance that enriches modern living. The sofa, upholstered in soft nabuck leather, is distinguished by the unmistakable diamond pattern on the armrests, which has always been the collection's code.

Matlock coffee table Matlock is a coffee table which combines juxtaposed elements. Two curved modules create the structure on which the top made in new larch wood is fitted. The leather outer cover is framed by a metal profile which is the leitmotif of the collection.

Mere armchair The Mere armchair is developed on a cockpit layout with compact volumes. Elegant and perfect for lounge settings, it has an enveloping larch frame in which the backrest and seat are fitted with leather upholstery. A delicate metal profile and original strip surrounding the base are inspired by an illusion of car tracks.
