For the first time, the famed collector car auction and automotive lifestyle event will begin with a live concert; on Friday, January 19, Grammy Award-winning rock band Foreigner will perform, headlining Barrett-Jackson’s “Rock the Block” presented by Arizona Lottery. The concert will be followed by QuikTrip Family Day, the introduction of the 50 contestants in the Barrett-Jackson Cup presented by Castrol on Saturday, January 20, and a preview day spotlighting the Future Collector Car Show at WestWorld of Scottsdale presented by Meguiar’s on Sunday, January 21. Collector vehicles and automobilia begin selling on Monday, January 22, and continue through Sunday, January 28. “Our 2024 Scottsdale Auction is shaping up to be another incredible automotive lifestyle celebration,” says Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Scottsdale-based Barrett-Jackson. “From the ‘Rock the Block’ concert with Foreigner kicking everything off, to the Barrett-Jackson Cup competition, the second installment of FCCS at Barrett-Jackson, Thrill Rides, off-road experiences and more than 1,900 collectible vehicles crossing the auction block throughout the nine-day event, this will be another can’t-miss Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction.” Adds Jackson, “We look forward to welcoming hundreds of thousands of enthusiasts from all over the world as we once again kick off the event season here in Arizona.”

1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible Resto-Mod by Jeff Hayes Customs
The Hayes Halo For almost 20 years, master builder Jeff Hayes has focused on the stellar C2 Corvette, in particular, the one-year 1963 SplitWindow coupe and the 1967 Convertible, marking the final year of that generation. Hayes has honored Barrett-Jackson before with his artistry. His custom Silver Blue-on-Cream 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible was sold at the 2022 Scottsdale Auction for $715,000, and in 2023 a Dirty Martini Green-on-Buttercream ’67 Corvette Convertible brought even more, $770,000 — one of the highest-selling custom 1967 Corvettes ever. For 2024, Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale will offer a Hayes 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible Resto-Mod at No Reserve, featuring a champagne exterior complemented by a linen-colored interior. Finished just a few months ago in October, the custom classic has a 540-horse LS3 V-8 linked to a 4L70E automatic transmission. An Art Morrison sport chassis improves handling and offers a modern styling look, and the 4-wheel Wilwood discs significantly enhance stopping. Inside, the car includes a Vintage Air system, an AM/FM Bluetooth stereo for music and connectivity, power steering, power windows and a power hood that makes showcasing the color-matching engine bay easy. To enhance its overall aesthetics, Hayes has fitted the Corvette with custom-designed Schott wheels wrapped in special white line tires, further setting it apart. “Today’s custom car builders like Jeff Hayes are some of the greatest artists and craftsman of our time,” says Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “Jeff is well known throughout the resto-mod segment of the hobby for the incredible machines he brings to life, and we’re proud to have sold several of his works of art over the years.”

One-of-one 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari built and designed for Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar
A Diverse Docket A typically diverse Barrett-Jackson docket is led by a one-of-one 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari owned by Sammy Hagar, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, multi-platinum solo artist and former Van Halen front man. Ferrari produced only 499 units of this hyper Dancing Horse, the company’s first fully hybrid car; the prime-time auction block star will appear Saturday evening, January 27. Another Ferrari, an F12 TDF, Bianco Fuji with Livrea Nero Stellato stripes over a Nero with Bianco stitched interior, celebrates the great Tour de France race, which Ferrari dominated in the 1950s and 1960s. The car’s exterior design is influenced by its racing heritage, with a more aggressive front splitter, a larger rear spoiler and a redesigned rear diffuser to improve downforce and stability. A naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V-12 produces 770 horsepower and 520 ft/lbs of torque; the car accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and tops at 211 mph. This Ferrari moves on 20-inch forged Matte Black racing wheels with blacked-out brake calipers. One of just 799 examples of the F12 TDF, the model updates the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta with engine, aerodynamics and suspension improvements. The F12 TDF features a unique livery with stripes and graphics that honor the Tour de Francewinning Ferraris of the 1950s and 1960s. 2018 Bugatti Chiron
A vintage Italian car is a red-on-black 1988 Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV, also a 12-cylinder, 5-speed offered at No Reserve. A French hypercar, a 2018 Bugatti Chiron, features the full exposed carbon fiber option. It is powered by an 8.0liter 16-cylinder engine that uses four turbochargers to make 1,500 horses with 1,180 ft/lbs of torque, generating 0 to 60 mph runs of 2.3 seconds and a top speed of 261 mph. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission routes power to all four wheels.
A Stash of Chevys Barrett-Jackson is always a haven for great Chevys. A 1963 Corvette ZO6 Split-window coupe has just received a professional body-off restoration to factory specifications by D&M Corvette Specialists in Downers Grove, Illinois. One of only 199 cars to receive the RPO ZO6 package, this rare car, Sebring Silver over Black, retains the original matching-numbers engine and 4-speed. The optional performance package includes the RPO L84 fuel-injected 327/360-horsepower engine, 4-speed manual transmission, posi-traction rear end, heavy-duty shock absorbers and springs, a dual-circuit brake master cylinder with a vacuum power booster and heavy-duty front stabilizer bar. A 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 Convertible, authenticated by marque expert Jerry MacNeish, is a matching-numbers example, with the LS6 454/450-horsepower V-8, Muncie 4-speed manual transmission and 12-bolt posi-traction rear end. “This is the first LS6 Chevelle convertible that I’ve certified with its complete original drivetrain,” MacNeish wrote in his report. This LS6 convertible was rotisserie restored to factory specs by Musclecar Restoration & Design in Pleasant Plains, Illinois; the shop completed the restoration in July 2021. The exterior is expertly finished in its original Forest Green with white SS stripes and a white convertible top over a black bucket-seat interior with a center console. This LS6 also features a cowl-induction hood with hood pins, a power convertible top, power steering and power brakes with front discs. It rides on 15-inch 5-spoke SS wheels wrapped in Firestone wide oval tires.

Bare metal to concours level: The custom Hogan Built 1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazer was restored and built for Captain “Wild” Bill Wichrowski of the Discovery Channel’s television show, “The Deadliest Catch.” The exterior color is the factory original Medium Olive, two-toned with a Crème Brulee lower quarter. The chassis was sandblasted and metal-worked, removing all imperfections. After fabrication, it was smoothed and finished in a gloss black powder coat. The shop rebuilt the axles, which were painted to match the chassis. And, the restoration team upgraded the brakes with a hydro-boost system, drilled/slotted rotors and Wilwood calipers. The Blazer is powered by a 500-horse factory 6.2-liter GM LS3 engine equipped with CVF front drive, mated to a Hughes 4L80E transmission and NP205 transfer case. Among the many custom adds are a Holley intake, a TIG-welded polished exhaust with MagnaFlow mufflers; a 24-gallon Boyd fuel cell; front and rear Deaver leaf springs Fox shocks; and BFG KO2 tires. Inside, the car is equally bespoke, with a Triple Twine Tan finish, custom bucket seats and door panels, leather-wrapped steering wheel attached to a CPP color-matched steering column, Classic Instrument gauges, Vintage Air system, RetroSound stereo and American Auto wire harness. This Blazer features a fully custom stereo with four 6.5-inch component speakers and a built-in 10-inch subwoofer.

HEMIs, a Ford GT and Cashmere From Plymouth, a 1970 HEMI Superbird is one of 135 produced in 1970 with the 426-cid 8-cylinder. The matching-numbers engine is connected to an upgraded 18-spline A833 HEMI 4-speed manual transmission; the rear end was upgraded with a stout 3.54 Dana. The car retains much of its original interior, including the seats, door panels, instrument cluster, dash pad and headliner. It also has the original carburetors and distributor. The ’Bird was repainted and retains the original vinyl roof and rides on Goodyear Polyglas tires on Rallye wheels. A Speed Yellow-liveried 2006 Ford GT is powered by a mid-mounted 5.4-liter modular V-8 aluminum block with an Eaton 2300 Lysholm twin-screw-type supercharger. Power output is 550 horses at 6,500 rpm and 500 ft/lbs of torque at 3,750 rpm through a 6-speed manual gearbox. A dry-sump oiling system is employed, allowing the engine to sit low in the car’s frame. The DOHC 4-valve heads are a revision of the 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R cylinder heads with slightly increased wall casting thickness in the exhaust port. The camshafts have higher lift and longer duration than those found in the Shelby GT500. The brakes are 4-piston aluminum Brembo calipers with cross-drilled and vented rotors at all four corners. “Cashmere” is a Resto-Mod 1957 Continental Mark II by the acclaimed Havasu Speed. It’s powered by a Ford 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 with an Edelbrock Victor II EFI manifold. The engine is mated to a Performance Automatic 4R70W Street Smart 4-speed automatic transmission with a Simple Shift transmission control system operated using a Mastershift push-button head unit. Jim Meyer Enterprises boxed and melded the original frame rails and added a redesigned front clip. Kugel Komponents designed the full front and rear independent suspension to support the weight, approximately 4,900 pounds, of a larger car. The power braking system has Wilwood 6-piston calipers clamping on 13-inch drilled and slotted rotors. Colorado Custom cut the 19-inch wheels with 19x9-inch fronts and 19x9.5-inch rears. This custom Continental’s smooth ride is courtesy of a RideTech air-ride suspension system controlled by AccuAir management.

Ron Mangus Interiors designed the all-leather interior, and the owner designed the dashboard. Gauges were done by Classic Instruments with custom logos approved by Ford. And, a 1970 Plymouth HEMI ’Cuda is powered by a 426/425hp HEMI engine paired with a 4-speed transmission and a Super Track Pak Dana axle and 4.10 gears. It has been visually inspected and certified by Galen Govier as a matchingnumbers car and drivetrain. The engine and transmission were rebuilt and restored, and the car has the correct factory markings, stampings, numbers and dated components. It features the original sheet metal and power disc brakes. This ’Cuda is registered and documented with the Chrysler Registry to be #128 of the 284 1970 HEMI ’Cudas built with 4-speed transmissions. In 1899, a cowboy settled camp for the night at the Pilgrim Mine near Black Mountain in northwest Arizona. He was annoyed by a hard object under his blanket. About to toss it, he saw a sparkle in the moonlight. The rock was the highestgrade gold nugget; this special site is Stella Ranch.

Steering Wheel Art “My name is Adrian Suciu, and I am the owner of Steering Wheel Art in Scottsdale, Arizona. I was born in Timisoara, Romania; after finishing high school, I joined the army. In 2001, I decided with my wife, Luminita, to move to Spain and get married.
I wanted to see how someone would react to my new work because for me it was something very satisfying to see what amazing things I could make with my own hands. “During the week, I would go to shops and garages that had custom cars so I could show them my work. When I saw the shop that I am currently at, I really liked it because I saw that it was very organized and clean. So I told my wife that I wanted to rent a shop for myself to work at with steering wheels; I could only rent a room at that shop, but that was just enough space for me. I asked the owner of the place if I could rent a room there, and he said that I could. I was very happy when I was told that I could rent that room. “In September, I organized all of my things in my new place and I made myself a table to work on with leather and other stuff. This was where my new adventure began because I was around only exotic cars and that was how my perspective changed and went to the next level. People started talking about me and recommending me. “I started going to every car event that I possibly could and sometimes I would even go to three events on Saturdays. One of the events takes place in Scottsdale, Barrett-Jackson; I would go around there with my business cards and a steering wheel, and people would ask me why I was carrying a steering wheel with me. This year was amazing for me because finally I was able to put up a stand at Barrett-Jackson. I had some customers that would come over to my stand and congratulate me because I got to put my stand at the biggest car auction in the world. It was tiring but I enjoyed it because I was doing it with passion. “When a customer tells me a genuine ‘thank you’ for the product it means a lot to me, more than receiving the money. I finally have a job that I actually love and I believe it’s the best job that I could ever have. I get to live in a dream that I wasn’t even dreaming about before.”
“I had to accept any job opportunity to be able to maintain my family. I used to work as a postman, a construction worker and I even opened a second-hand store. Then, my wife and I decided for me to go to Romania to get my truck driver’s license so I could have a more stable job. But I kept searching for more things to do because that wasn’t my dream. “I went to Timișoara, and my brother gave me a steering wheel to wrap in leather. I didn’t know that it was possible to do that, so I told him that I would buy a case from the store. He told me that he didn’t want that and that he wanted it custom made. I went to a guy that wrapped steering wheels in leather named Silviu. I was just observing how he was doing his job and I was fascinated by his work. I was just like a little kid in Legoland. I felt like I was being told that I had to do this amazing job. “My wife told me to focus on getting my truck driver's license, but I told her that I would also like to try to have this job which I thought was really amazing and interesting. I got to buy a sewing machine from Romania and I brought it to Spain. When I was trying to put the thread in the machine, I accidentally broke the needle. I didn’t get to accomplish much in Spain. “In 2015 or 2016, I was thinking of moving to the U.S. with my family. I worked as a truck driver in Spain for about six months, and then we packed our bags and moved to the U.S. I started as a construction worker, but that didn’t stop me from wanting to wrap steering wheels in leather. I was telling my partners from work that I was thinking about wrapping steering wheels, and they told me to go for it. I began searching through the internet to get some thread, leather and more. “My very first steering wheel that I attempted to wrap took days to finish, I would get out of my garage exhausted.

The New Land Rover Range Rover PHEV written by Trenton O. Gibson It takes approximately a decade or so before Land Rover introduces a “new” Range Rover. Sure the body is a bit sleeker, the interior a little nicer, and the size of the vehicle a bit larger, but in generations past they never truly felt like an all new vehicle. This generation of Range Rover however takes things to a whole new level. If you’re coming from the previous generation Range Rover, it is best to approach these new models as a whole new vehicle entirely. Styling ethos is carried over, but with a wide variety of new power plants, interior ergonomics and systems never fitted to a Land Rover product before, the best way to approach a new Range Rover is without comparison. This test did not include confirmation of the 3 feet of water clearance owners can submit their Range Rover to, or just how sophisticated the independent locking differentials handle on a steep hill descent. Our test focused on, let’s be honest, the type of driving 99.9% of owners will be doing with their $126k Range Rover, hauling the kids and driving around town. Our 2023 Land Rover Range Rover PHEV SE made quick work of our team’s expectations as to how this Range Rover would compare to the previous generation we own. The new body on the Range Rover is a study in how to give a vehicle road presence, while not simply just adding size. On its own, the new body of the Range Rover looks much larger than previous examples, however parked next to each other, they are almost identical in size. Green paint, black exterior trim, and 21” wheels standard made our example Range Rover even more identifiable as the latest offering from the British auto manufacturer. On the inside of any Range Rover is where customers get their money’s worth. While a sticker price of over $126k is steep by any means, the interior and ride quality feels just as comparable to the ultra luxury SUVs like the Bentley Bentayga, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, and Lamborghini Urus. Something potentially owners should take a long look at is Land Rover’s new Ultrafabrics Textile interior. Our Range Rover did have this option and our staff agreed it was an interesting and clever alternative to your typical leather options. This material is also hydrophobic, and would hold well to any spills in the back seats. Long term durability of the Ultrafabrics Textile materials, and childrens’ seeming unique sense of usage, may be one to wait on until this material has been thoroughly put through its paces by early adopters.

Highline Autos The ‘23 Range Rovers’s luxurious driving experience is paired and complemented perfectly with the PHEV hybrid drivetrain. With approximately 45 miles of completely silent EV driving or 51 mpg in the standard hybrid mode. The lack of noise and chattery through the vehicle leaves the supercharged V6 and V8 of old behind. Don’t think for a second however this almost 6,000 pound family SUV is lacking any power, due to the clever programming of the power delivery from both the electric hybrid motor and the 3.0 liter turbocharged inline 6 cylinder, most customers will be impressed with the acceleration this platform is able to achieve. For customers who are still looking for more performance. From a previous owner's point of view, the brand new infotainment system and interface seems unnecessary. Our recommendation is any owners coming off lease or trading in the previous generation may want to take some time with their dealer specialist to learn just how everything works. There are a lot of toys and clever features previous owners will recognize or be looking forward to in this new model, but with a completely new user interface and controls, owners can not simply adapt what they learned with their previous model. As a young professional, tech savvy, and Range Rover owner, it took me almost 10 minutes to properly pair my bluetooth to the stereo, I can only imagine those who can afford a new Range Rover would not have the same patience. While this new generation Range Rover is impressive by even Land Rover’s standards, the “quirks” only Land Rover owners are willing to put up with were still present in our example. The driver-side mirror would reset itself to vertical every time you turn it on, our charging cable that came with the vehicle would “fault” without rhyme or reason to specific outlets, and wind noise from the large exterior mirrors is exacerbated due to the silence of the rest of the drivetrain. With ever increasing competition in the luxury SUV market, the new generation Range Rover still holds its own as the iconic offering from England. Relative newcomers to the market like the Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus, and Rolls Royce Cullinan put pressure on Land Rover’s market share. However, after testing the 2023 Land Rover Range Rover PHEV SE, we can assure owners new and old, this generation Range Rover takes the competition right back to them, in many ways, exceeding expectations compared to the much more expensive models mentioned above. As the market adjusts and pricing seems to come back to earth across the industry, this new generation Range Rover continues to make a strong case for itself as THE luxury family SUV.

Volare Hangars in Queen Creek: The Multiple Joys of Airpark Ownership written by David M. Brown photos by M. Jordan Lindsey The first phase of Volare Hangars at Pegasus Airpark in the town of Queen Creek is just finishing up, and the second phase should be completed in January. The premier airpark community offers myriad events and lifestyle amenities — and it’s a short 10-minute flight southeast of Scottsdale. Volare Hangars comprises 34 premium and upgraded executive hangars, 60-by-60 square feet to 80-by-80 square feet. Pegasus Airpark (5AZ3) is a luxury gated aviation- and equestrian-focused community surrounding the private airport’s paved runway, 5,124 feet by 80 feet.

At Volare, pilots store their planes, helicopters, collector cars and other treasures as well as host friends, family and business acquaintances. “While we see the need for larger corporate business hangars at regional airports, we are also seeing an increase in general aviation’s desire to move to private airports and airparks like Pegasus,” says Johnnie Panfil, co-owner of the local family-owned company, Equity 1000 LLC, with John and Tarja Panfil. He continues: “General aviation pilots tend to prefer the freedom and ease of private airport flight operations, even if that means driving 30 minutes to an hour away, which can still be quicker than taxiing at a busy regional airport during rush hour.”

In addition, general aviation also prioritizes the long-term security and flexibility to customize hangars and use them for more than parking a plane, which is one of the primary benefits of a private airport without the restrictions at municipal airports. Those airports are owned by municipalities, which have strict federal requirements they must meet. “Public airports receiving funding from the FAA are required to have ground leases on hangars located within the airport, and, once the initial term and any renewals are over, the airport authorities can take ownership of the hangar, so, at most airports, hangars are only available with limited ownership rights due to ground leases that come with strict rules and restrictions,” explains John.

In contrast, private airparks, such as Pegasus, are managed and maintained by a community association; they do not receive funding from FAA. Therefore, with fewer restrictions on how the hangars can be used, owners also have the flexibility to store cars, RVs, boats and other equipment without issues. “You own the hangar fee simple, forever allowing it to be passed down for generations and to appreciate in value without the diminishing returns caused by ground leases,” he says. “You can also modify and make improvements to the interior of the hangar without concerns of an authority taking ownership of your hangar or kicking you out.”

Advantages of a Growing Small-town Location and Community Johnnie says that the Queen Creek location is ideal: “Being centrally located between Southern California, Texas, Nevada, Utah and Colorado in one of the fastest growing and topranked towns across the country makes Pegasus Airpark one of the best locations for private aircraft owners.” “The general aviation market continues growing exponentially, adding to the shortage of hangars,” John says. Pegasus Airpark is also an investment opportunity that createsgrowth of area property values, he notes, adding that the price of existing

Highline Autos hangars and flight lots have more than doubled at the community in the last two years. He notes that LG, for example, will be investing $5.5 billion in a world-class manufacturing complex in Queen Creek, which ranks as one of the fastest growing cities across the country every year. It’s also the second wealthiest municipality in the state, behind Paradise Valley, according to the PropertyClub Team’s ranking from October of this year. This is not just a place to park your plane and walk away or where your collection can be stored and shown; it’s a neighborhood, a community, he says. Owners share interests, including cars, motorcycles, horses and other recreational vehicles that many pilots also enjoy with their family and friends. The community is home to collections of aircraft and vehicles, ranging from the highest levels of performance to museum pieces. John adds, “One of the common threads we have consistently heard and experienced is that the aviation community is filled with great people.” For instance, Volare partners, Boomerang Capital out of Mesa, are also aviation enthusiasts, including their principal who is a pilot. “It’s a great team to build hangars with.” Pegasus hosts many get-togethers and socials both for charity and fun year round. “And between these events, the winter holidays are always a particularly great time to be at Pegasus,” says Johnnie. “We are all excited to see the finished product, and it came at the perfect time of the year to be able to host holiday events in the new hangars.” Queen Creek, spanning Maricopa and Pinal counties, epitomizes the upscale lifestyle of the Southeast Valley: brisk growth, the rural serenity people come to Arizona for and more than

300 days of sunshine a year which makes it great for flying. Originally known as Rittenhouse, the 40.8-square-mile town incorporated in 1989; the population was 59,519 in 2020 and surpassed 78,000 in 2023. Downtown, the town is improving buildings and making the area more pedestrian friendly. In addition, new restaurants and entertainment venues are in progress, such as the 20,000square-foot Perch Brewery Badlands Bar and Grill and the Barn Bar Courtyards, with locally owned restaurants and shops. And nearby are myriad recreational activities such as San Tan Mountain Regional Park, with miles of hiking trails, and boating and fishing on Saguaro and Roosevelt lakes. Surrounding mountain ranges provide opportunities to explore and sightsee. “When we started Volare Hangars at Pegasus Airpark, we did not think we would have interest from pilots who live as far as an hour and a half away from Queen Creek,” Johnnie says, “but we now have regular interest from pilots as far as north Scottsdale and all around the Valley.” Luxury Hangars at a Small Airpark Paving will be completed this month, just as the phase 1 hangars finish up. Pegasus is lighted and includes a VASI guidance system. Helicopters are allowed. Both Jet-A and AVGAS fuel is on site with discounted pricing available for owners — about half the price per gallon charged by larger airports. In addition, Pegasus is 7,000 feet below KPHX Class B airspace, with fewer flight restrictions than other local airports.

Highline Autos The premium Volare hangars are pre-engineered metal construction for the exterior and demising walls. They include features such as premium hydraulic hangar doors; three-phase power supply; plumbing to install restrooms and/or appliances; fully insulated ceiling/walls; and additional roof structure ready for future HVAC systems. Larger executive hangars along Diana Way use commercial grade CMU block construction for the exterior and demising walls, enhancing the look and sound attenuation. These units have street addresses with private driveways; 14-foot-by-14foot hydraulic RV doors; large patios that include 10-foot-tall commercial grade sliding doors which can be folded completely to one side; and a separate 8-foot-tall glass front entrance door. They also have greater flexibility in potential uses, including building out a portion of the interior into a residence. In the Windscreen Ahead Upcoming events the Volare team is planning includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Queen Creek’s mayor and vice mayor, a pilots’ “$100 hamburger day” and a fly-in for Barrett-Jackson. “We may be able to accommodate parking some planes in our hangars for visitors during January events and the other car auctions for those who don’t want to fly into a busy airport and are interested in experiencing our Volare Hangars at Pegasus first hand,” Johnnie says.
