UP FOR DISCUSSION: LEARNING ABOUT EMOTIONS This week, VotesforSchools voters will be answering the question: “Does learning about your emotions help you feel better?” Why not discuss what you think about this question at home? Is it helpful to learn about your emotions?

THIS WEEK’S BIG READ: NEUROPLASTICITY The brain is something that has fascinated psychologists and neuroscientists for centuries. How does it learn? How does it remember? How does it recover after injury? Neuroplasticity can help to answer these questions. This concept relates to the brain’s ability to change and reorganise itself in response to new experiences or information, such as injuries or new skills. Research shows that the brain remains “plastic” throughout our lives, helping us to adapt, learn and recover better.

COMPREHENSION CHALLENGE For how long has there been interest in neuroplasticity? Find and copy a verb that describes the brain’s ability. True or false? Neuroplasticity only helps us when we become injured. For how long do our brains remain “plastic”? What does neuroplasticity help us to do better?
