Newsletter Parent/Carer Notices Head of Year 8 in September 2018 (current Year 7) I have delivered an assembly to your children today to introduce myself as their Head of Year from September 2018. I have spoken to them about the details of the Year 7 Sponsored Walk, which is taking place on Wednesday 4 July and I am very much looking forward to taking part in this with them. If you have returned your child’s consent form already, thank you. If you haven’t done this yet, please do so as soon as possible as we need this to allow them to take part. This is a lovely event and one that will enable me to start to get to know your children. We will be walking whatever the weather (and I have done it in the pouring rain!) so please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for whatever weather is forecast. I have spoken in assembly this morning about what a fantastic thing they are doing in raising much needed funds for the three charities they have chosen - Ashgate Hospice, the RSPCA and Water Aid. I hope that they are busy collecting sponsorship! We really appreciate your support in helping them to raise as much as possible for these three deserving charities. As I would like to see the students presenting the money raised to these charities in an assembly as early as possible at the start of Year 8, I would very much appreciate it if all monies raised could be handed in to Mrs Green by Monday 16 July. I am looking forward getting to know your children over the course of the next few weeks and working with them and you over the years ahead. Mrs A Ruston Head of Year 8 from September 2018

Newsletter School News Year 7 & 8 trip to Alton Towers 70 Year 7 and 8 students had a fantastic time at Alton Towers on Saturday. These students were all eligible for participation in this reward trip due to their excellent conduct through the year. They have all consistently met our high expectations. The students were led by a dedicated team of staff who were more than happy to give part of their weekend to provide such opportunities for the students, so thank you to Mrs Green, who organised the trip, Mrs Hollinrake, Mrs Redhead, Miss Hughes, Miss Ould and Mr Rodgers. It was a long, hot day, but the students were a credit to the school. Their behaviour was impeccable and they were even on time! A great day for all involved. Now, where to next year...?

Newsletter Sports Leaders News National School Sport Week 2018 For National School Sport Week we have organised lunch time and after school activities to take place all week.
SSP Girls Kwik Cricket On Monday 25 June Highfields Cluster primary schools were involved in SSP girls Kwik Cricket.
Primary Schools Dance Festivals 2018 On Wednesday 27 June and Friday 27 June the Primary Schools Dance Festivals took place. Both days were led by Highfields Dance Leaders in Year 9.
YST Girls Football Project On Thursday 28 June Mrs Allen was involved in a new project for September 2018 and participated in online training for a girls football project with Youth Sport Trust.
Voice of Sport On Friday 29 June the final Voice of Sport meeting took place for 2017/18. Mrs Allen thanked all the team for a great year and looks forward to the new season 2018/19 in September.

Retirement of Ranald Macdonald, Co-Chair of Governors I have decided to stand down as a Governor, and hence as Co-Chair of Governors, from the end of June to give myself and my wife, Viv, more time to travel in our campervan. The role makes it difficult to travel in term time and we want to see more of the UK and Europe, going to orienteering events and folk festivals and cycling with our dog, Cassie (she has her own trailer!). I have been honoured to serve as a Governor at Highfields School and have been thrilled by the many performing arts, sporting and academic achievements and developments over the last few years. Viv and I have never ceased to be amazed by the quality of musicianship and performance that many of our students demonstrate. Just when we think we are losing a particularly talented group a new lot comes through. I have also valued my time working with Helen, other Governors, Peter and Ben and their colleagues on the Senior Leadership Team as well as all other staff and students I have met during my involvement with the school. I wish Andrew Marsh and all of you the best for the future and I expect to be seen at school performances and orienteering activities for some time to come. Highfields is a great school, with highly dedicated staff and many outstanding young people. I would like to hope I can continue to support you all, even if in some small ways, in the future.

School to Home communication In order to improve communication with parents/carers and to reduce the substantial cost and environmental impact associated with the amount of paper and photocopying involved in school mailings all correspondence is sent to parents/carers via email only. Our aim is that only students’ Assessment Profiles/Data Sheets, and of course, confidential or personal mail will be posted home. We fully understand that some parents/carers may wish to continue to have paper copies sent home rather than to receive communication by email and we will make arrangements to ensure that it is possible for this to continue upon request.
