Newsletter Parent/Carer Notices Year 11 Exam Arrangements Further to the letter sent out in April, now the exam period is starting we wanted to remind parents/carers that students will continue to follow their normal timetable. However, we will be holding pre-exam ‘booster’ sessions close to each exam and students will be required to attend such sessions in place of ordinary lessons as appropriate. After half term the normal timetable will come to an end. Students will be required to attend school for exams and pre-exam booster sessions only. We also plan to make space available for students to come in and revise if they want to, for some this can be easier than revising at home. We would like to thank parents/carers for the support given - nobody says that GCSE exams are going to be easy, but by us all working together we can give our young people the very best chance. Best wishes to all Year 11 students!

Newsletter Year 12 Summer Term Timetable Students in Year 12 have been given a copies of the summer programme that includes dates of AS exams, internal exams, fieldwork and other activities during until the end of the year. Students have been informed that lessons will continue throughout this term. There will be no exam leave for Year 12s as a large number of students have no AS exams and so they should continue to study those subjects. Students have been told that they will not be expected in school on the morning when they have an exam (this will apply for both their AS exams and their internal exams). However, once they have taken an exam in the morning, they will be expected for afternoon lessons.
Deodorant Challenge Warning! We would like to alert you to a new craze called the ‘deodorant challenge’ that is growing in popularity around schools throughout the UK. Latest report is that it is now happening in Matlock. The challenge involves spraying the deodorant on to a person’s bare skin for as long as possible, which not only can be extremely dangerous it can result in serious burns on a person’s skin. Sports Leaders News Year 8 & 9 Sports Leaders – Rounders Course On Tuesday 8 May, 18 of our Year 8 and 9 Sports Leaders attended a Rounders Officials Course led by Helen Hawes of England Rounders. They were joined by members of staff from Primary Schools involved in the Cluster Championships this year and Sports Leaders will be putting their skills to the test on Friday 15 June.

Business Support Apprenticeships “The Grand Tour” BASED AT TOWN HALL, MATLOCK Salary:

8:30-17:00 Monday to Friday
Three exciting Apprenticeship opportunities have arisen within the District Council. The Apprenticeship Programme will run for the period of one year from September 2018.
The overall aim of the Grand Tour Apprenticeship Programme is to enable post holders to learn about the services delivered by the District Council whilst developing knowledge and skills through hands on experience as well as via Business Administration Apprenticeship Training.
The Apprentice will work within a range of District Council Departments, under a planned carrousel arrangement, working under supervision and guidance to develop skills, knowledge and experience to provide delivery of a friendly, helpful and efficient service to the Council’s internal and external customers. This could include face to face service delivery as well as by telephone and electronic means.
At the end of the one-year programme it is anticipated that the Apprentice will become employment ready and will be given the opportunity to apply for available permanent employment opportunities within the District Council.

Newsletter Highfields School Contact details Communication with school General enquiry (Form Tutor) The first point of contact for parents/carers for general enquiries is the Form Tutor. If parents/carers feel enquiries have not been adequately addressed by the Form Tutor, this can be followed-up with the relevant Head of Year. We encourage parents/carers to keep in touch with tutors by using the student planner. There is a space at the end of each week where parents/carers can write a note to the tutor.
Subject specific enquiry (Subject Teacher) If parents/carers have subject specific enquiries, we ask that they contact the relevant subject teacher. If parents/carers feel enquiries have not been adequately addressed by the class teacher, this can be followed-up by the relevant Head of Department. Parents/carers can contact us on the main school number (see below). Reception staff will aim to help with queries or refer parents/carers to a member of staff who can.

School to Home communication In order to improve communication with parents/carers and to reduce the substantial cost and environmental impact associated with the amount of paper and photocopying involved in school mailings all correspondence is sent to parents/carers via email only. Our aim is that only students’ Assessment Profiles/Data Sheets, and of course, confidential or personal mail will be posted home.
