Sports Update
Mr Shirtcliffe (Head of PE)
Fixtures: We are looking forward seeing our students continuing to participate and achieve in a range of sporting events locally and nationally in the New Year.
24 January 2018: On Wednesday the first team rugby are at home to Toot Hill with a 2pm kick off at Lumsdale.
Sports Results 18 January 2018 – Football:
Our Year 7 girls played some good football in cold and snowy conditions on Thursday, but lost to Ecclesbourne School’s team.

Sports Leaders News Mixed Football Competition Friday 12 January saw the lunchtime mixed Football competition kick off. This will be taking place every Friday for the rest of the term. The competition is being run by our PE Sport apprentices, Miss Elliot, Miss Tabbenor and Miss Spencer. There was a great atmosphere in the sports hall and the standard of play was good.
Friday Challenge Activities Also on Friday it was the fourth week of the Friday Challenge activities running at Starkholmes during lunchtime. The events are run by PE Apprentices Mr Molyneux and Miss Gardner.
County Leadership, Coaching and Volunteering Programme (LCV) The County LCV programme (Leadership, Coaching and Volunteering) took place on Wednesday 17 January where Year 9-12 Sports Leaders were put through their paces by Janice Price. Well done to Scarlett, Evie, Grace, Holly, Olivia, Hettie (Year 9 students), Alisha (Year 11) and Jack and Harry (Year 12).
PE Apprentice On Tuesday 16 January, PE Apprentice Miss Elliott had an outstanding session with Year 7 on fitness. Miss Tabbenor was in Stevenage for a Health Related Fitness qualification, part of her level 2 Apprentice qualification on Thursday 18/Friday 19 January.

Parent/Carer notices Year 9 Options Thank you to all parents, carers and students for attending last week’s Year 9 options and consultation evening, which was a very positive event. Teachers commented on the high levels of reflection, reasoning and responsibility students demonstrated in their conversations with students as they considered their choices ahead. During the course of this week, students will continue to discuss their provisional options choices with tutors, which must be agreed and submitted by Friday 2 February. If parents/carers have any remaining questions about the options process, please contact Mr Tidmarsh in the first instance on extension 364.
Year 9 Immunisations – 5 February 2018 Earlier this week Year 9 students were given letters to take home with consent forms explaining about the Meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY) vaccine and Teenage Booster vaccine being offered to Year 9 students by the Immunisation Team on Monday 5 February. Please can you ensure consent forms are returned to school by Thursday 25 January 2018 in order to allow the Immunisation Team time to order the vaccine. If you have not received a letter or consent form, please contact David Tidmarsh on 01629 581888 extension 364.
Show My Homework Year 7 parents/carers have received log on details to Show My Homework. If any Year 7 parent/carer has not received a letter, please contact Mrs Green. Year 9 parents/carers were given the opportunity to attend a demonstration of Show My Homework at this week’s parent consultation evening and to collect log on details if not already logged on. During the forthcoming parent consultation evenings there will be the opportunity for parents/carers to attend a demonstrate of Show My Homework, ask any questions and collect log on reminders: Year Year Year Year

If students are considering a different career path to university, starting an apprenticeship could be for them, along with the opportunity for students to earn whilst learning. The UCAS Events Team have created an exclusive ‘apprenticeship zone’ at their London, Manchester, and Birmingham free exhibitions. Students can Book an event today and discover what life is like as an apprentice, with top employers including Airbus, Ernst and Young, and Rolls Royce. There will be a mix of universities, colleges, graduate employers, and gap year specialists also at the event so students can explore a number of career opportunities in one day, under one roof. Highfields School Contact details Communication with school General enquiry (Form Tutor)
The first point of contact for parents/carers for general enquiries is the Form Tutor. If parents/carers feel enquiries have not been adequately addressed by the Form Tutor, this can be followed-up with the relevant Head of Year. We encourage parents/carers to keep in touch with tutors by using the student planner. There is a space at the end of each week where parents/carers can write a note to the tutor.
Subject specific enquiry (Subject Teacher)
If parents/carers have subject specific enquiries, we ask that they contact the relevant subject teacher. If parents/carers feel enquiries have not been adequately addressed by the class teacher, this can be followed-up by the relevant Head of Department. Parents/carers can contact us on the main school number (see below). Reception staff will aim to help with queries or refer parents/carers to a member of staff who can.

School to Home communication In order to improve communication with parents/carers and to reduce the substantial cost and environmental impact associated with the amount of paper and photocopying involved in school mailings all correspondence is sent to parents/carers via email only. Our aim is that only students’ Assessment Profiles/Data Sheets, and of course, confidential or personal mail will be posted home. We fully understand that some parents/carers may wish to continue to have paper copies sent home rather than to receive communication by email and we will make arrangements to ensure that it is possible for this to continue upon request.
