Year 10 parent consultation evening

Our year 10 parents/carers virtual parent consultation evening will take place on 6 July 2021 from 4-7pm. Appointments are now available to book and will remain open for parents/carers to select 5 minute slots with subject staff until 4pm on 5 July.

If you have not already done so, please download, register and log into Weduc in order to be able to arrange appointments with your child’s subject teachers to review and discuss their progress.

Removal of catering cash converter machines

Following recent government guidance regarding the use of cash for purchases in school, and in conjunction with Highfields commitment to being a cashless school, we will be removing the cash conversion machines on both school sites over the summer.

Students will no longer be able to bring cash into school to upload to the machines and pay for school meals as all school meal payments will be via ParentPay. All parents/carers have a ParentPay account to put money on for students to purchase food in the canteen.

The catering team will still ensure that any student who is in need of help due to lack of funds on their account will be given a meal and money will be taken from the student’s account when parents/carers upload funds.

PTFA easyfundraising

Highfields PFTA has signed up to easyfundraising. There are over 4,000 shops and sites on board ready to make a donation – including eBay, Argos, John Lewis, ASOS, Booking.com and M&S – and it won’t cost you a penny extra to help the PTFA raise funds.

All you need to do is:

2. Every time you shop online, go to easyfundraising first to find the site you want and start shopping.

3. After you’ve checked out, the retailer will make a donation to Highfields School Matlock PFTA at no extra cost to you whatsoever.

There are no catches or hidden charges and the PTFA will be really grateful for your donations, especially as opportunities to raise funds have been very much reduced over the last year.

Year 8 Geography fieldwork at Carsington Water

We have had the best time with year 8 this week at Carsington Water.

The students have been investigating the concept of ‘place’ (a concept very much at the heart of the geography curriculum) and trying to identify the ‘social value’, the ‘economic value’ and the ‘environmental value’ of Carsington Water.

We have had some great conversations about these ideas with students during the fieldwork and we feel that we have all greatly benefitted from some time outdoors in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, listening to the birds and identifying species of wildflowers. How lucky are we to have all of this on our doorstep?
