Y12 Commonwealth Games planning

Last Friday, 13 May, year 12 level 3 sports leaders received their session three of planning the Commonwealth Games event from Active Schools Manager, Chris Bethell, and his assistant Max Marshall. They were looking at risk assessments for the event.
Y12/13 final IV session
Last Friday saw our year 12 and 13 sports leaders conclude their final IV session leading St Joseph’s Primary Schools class 3/4. The leaders have now completed their level 3 practical assessments.
The year 13 group are now finishing their time in Highfields - Mr Shirtcliffe and Mrs Allen were very privileged to take this final session with them. They have been a fantastic group to work with and a number of them have been on the sports leadership journey since starting Highfields in year 7. Very well done our year 13’s - Hettie, Elysia, Ben, Oliver H, Oliver N, James, Henry, Joshua and Jack.




Derwent Valley Orienteers & SSP World Orienteering Day
Our year 7, 8 and 9 sports leaders received training from Derwent Valley Orienteers last Friday, in preparation for leading the World Orienteering Day in Whitworth Park. The leaders were excellent and spent the afternoon setting up and leading activities.
The SSP World Orienteering Day event took place in Whitworth Park this Wednesday with 14 primary schools from across the Rural Derbyshire SSP. Our leaders who were trained by Judith Holt and a team from Derwent Valley Orienteers were the marshals and activity leaders.




















Young Ambassador Assembly
On Monday, the final Young Ambassador assembly took place at All Saints Junior School. Year 9 Ambassadors, Jack and Jenson, did very well leading this assembly at our largest feeder school with over 200 pupils.
The young pupils were enthusiastic and very keen to ask questions.



Kwik Cricket
The Primary Cluster Kwik Cricket tournament was held at Darley Dale Cricket Club this Tuesday. Highfields sports leaders were the umpires and officials.
Results were as follows:
Large Schools:
1st - All Saints All Saints now go onto the SSP finals at Darley Dale on 13 June 2nd - Darley Dale 2 3rd - Darley Dale 1 4th - Lea
Small Schools:
1st - Wessington Wessington now go on to the SSP finals at Darley Dale on 13 June 2nd - South Darley 3rd - Darley Churchtown 4th - Tansley 5th - Winster












Well done to all! There were many comments from the primary staff and pupils regarding Highfields leaders concentration and fantastic organisation, and the pupils said how kind they were helping and supporting them.
Bunting Cup
On Thursday the annual Bunting Cup football tournament took place at Cavendish Fields. Highfields sports leaders were referees and officials at this event run by Jeremy Wray. As always, the leaders were very proficient in their duties.














Last night Highfields hosted the 17th Highfields Sports Leadership Academy awards evening with guest of honour Ali Oliver, CEO of the Youth Sport Trust. There were other guests in attendance from our combat coaching staff and ex-SGO Janice Price. Certificates, medals and trophies were given out in recognition of the efforts of our sports/dance leaders; to participants in our YST projects and year 5/6 Bronze Ambassadors/Playmakers.
Honour was also given to Jane Turner (who could not be with us on the evening), who retired at the end of last academic year after supporting our students through the sports leadership programme for 22 years alongside Mrs Allen. Honour was also paid to Mr Molyneux who is currently finishing off his final term in Highfields having been a PE Apprentice and then an employed member of staff. He has been on this journey in school and worked alongside Mrs Allen for the last seven years.





Rounders England
Today, Helen Hawes from Rounders England was in school to train our leaders in umpiring skills – more details to follow after half term.
