Online careers programme for 11-18 year olds

START is an online careers programme designed to connect 11-18 year olds with their future career potential.

The programme is broken down into sections on ‘world of work’ with a job search according to subject, skill or interest; ‘what to study’ about pathways and qualifications; ‘where to learn’ which views all colleges, universities, sixth forms, training providers and UTC; and ‘employability’ which has sections on work experience, work preparation including CV writing, covering letters and interview preparation. There is also the facility for students to upload their personal statement and CV, so they can start to build their own careers profile.

Students can access the programme at home via the website (www.startprofile.com) with the student code they have been issued with – contact Mrs Turner for further details.

NewsletterHighfields Sixth Form

Our website provides you with resources and an insight into life in our amazing sixth form, as well as the wider opportunities available and advice on choosing subjects. All our subject information and sixth form prospectus can be viewed electronically to help students decide what they would like to do in the sixth form.

By the end of November students are asked for their top four subject preferences in an electronic survey. This will not be a commitment to the subjects, but it helps us to plan for demand and to build our option blocks to allow the best fit with what students want to study. We then publish the option blocks in late January and students complete an application form, including their subject choices. In February and March we will hold individual meetings with students to discuss options.

Decisions on students’ futures take time, so this is the start of the process. It is not unusual for students and parents/carers to still have questions in the summer of next year, and so we will be happy to keep up the conversations with you over time. We don’t want you to feel rushed. We do want you to feel informed.

The sixth form team would be happy to answer any questions you may have and can be contacted on the following emails:

Mrs Sargeant (sixth form manager) rsargeant@highfields.derbyshire.sch.uk

Mr Flett (Director of sixth form) Mrs Cruise (Assistant head of sixth form) mflett@highfields.derbyshire.sch.uk lcruise@highfields.derbyshire.sch.uk
