Sixth form community volunteering

Sixth form students have put together some Halloween packages for two care homes for the elderly.

The idea came after discussing how they could still volunteer in the community amidst the current restrictions.

Along with the decorations and hampers they have sent videos and cards. In return, the residents from one home are sending videos back of their own, reading poetry for the students.

We are looking forward to developing this virtual communication link. This is just one of several ways that our year 12 students have realised they can still make an impact in the community.

News of the other projects will follow in coming weeks.

Year 7 science project

Miss Macdonald has been bringing science to real life with her year 7 students in 7SB and 7HR - they have been investigating how our bones and joints cause us to move.

Students dissected chicken wings to find tendons, muscle, ligaments, bones, joints and cartilage and compared the differences between a chicken wing and a human arm. They were all fully engaged in learning and this practical lesson lead to a number of questions from their enquiring minds.
