Geography field trip Mrs Barker

Our geography students who are working towards the compulsory fieldwork components at GCSE and A-level have made a noteworthy start to their respective qualifications.

We were especially impressed with our year 12 students who spent last Friday investigating contrasting areas of Sheffield: the tiny village of Ringinglow, shrouded in fog on the edge of the Peak District National Park, and the Lower Don Valley to the east of Sheffield city centre.

The students approached all of the tasks with amazing maturity (they are only a month into the Alevel course after all!) - even resisting the call of a well-known fast-food outlet in order to complete their tasks! They impressed us by being focused all day, and talking 'great geography' whilst in the minibus driving between the various data collection sites. We were both impressed and proud... we have high hopes for their A-level results in 2022!

A real highlight of the day was a quick stop at the Porter Brook Pocket Park - well worth a visit!

Meanwhile, our year 10 students have visited Edale this week to complete a river investigation and to reflect on Edale's distinctive landscape. All of the students brought a responsible work ethic, a reasoned approach to data collection, a well-resourced packed lunch, a resilience to atrocious weather and most importantly, a huge dose of good humour and kindness towards their fellow students.

As always, the National Park Authority's Education Service provided a brilliant, engaging and informative day of top-quality fieldwork instruction and support; we are most grateful to their continued commitment to fieldwork for our GCSE students.
