Back to the Future star Michael J. Fox is to be awarded an honorary Oscar. The Academy has announced he will receive a special humanitarian award. It will be both for his contribution to film as well as efforts to find a cure to Parkinson’s disease, with which he was diagnosed in 1991. Fox last appeared at the Oscars in 2017 where he received a standing ovation from his peers. Now the Marty McFly star will receive the ultimate Hollywood prize. Fox has won Emmy Awards, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards but this is his first Oscar.
