IMPORTANT PARTS OF THE DAY/WEEK Class Meetings

Each day in the Primary School begins with morning announcements and a prayer from the Principal. The teachers make time for a classroom meeting so that the students have time to greet one another, to share and respond to each other’s news, to think together, to problem solve and to look forward to the events for the day ahead.

The class meetings routine helps build community and a climate of trust; increases students’ confidence and investment in learning; improves listening, speaking, reading and writing skills; encourages cooperation and inclusion, and gives children daily practice in respectful communication. Lunch

Included in your tuition, we are pleased to offer all of our students a complete selection of menu choices prepared daily by Sage Dining Services including salad, fruit, pasta, sandwiches, a hot entree and dessert. Milk and water are provided. Parents may notify our Dining Hall if students have any food allergies.

Snack

The school will supply a nut-free snack each day for all Primary School students. Birthday treats or other special arrangements for a snack can be made, but all snacks must be free of nuts and nut products. Chapel

We gather as a community of students, faculty and staff in weekly chapel services and affirm both our Episcopal Christian traditions, as well as recognize religious diversity.

We celebrate values that unite, we nurture the spiritual framework in our lives and we learn about God’s love through stories, songs and prayers. Birthdays are recognized in Primary School Chapel and parents are invited to attend the service. Service Learning Opportunities

The Primary School shares ideas about helping friends we may or may not know in the community and around the world. We encourage our students to be difference-makers and that you can never be too young to give of yourself.

There are a variety of opportunities to be involved throughout the year.

CARPOOL Mornings

» Please enter campus using the driveway closest to the Alumni Hall Building, follow the driveway through the parking area, and then queue along the curb under the shaded awnings adjacent to the lobby entrance no earlier than 7:45 a.m. where teachers will greet you and assist your children out of the car. We ask for all students to be in the classroom by 8:15 a.m. (Note: campus buildings open at 7:30 a.m. for HIES Faculty members only.) Afternoons

» We have adopted the use of the mobile app, Queful, to improve efficiency with afternoon pickup. Carpool queue begins at 2:45 p.m. at the same location as morning carpool, and your arrival on campus will be automatically registered via Queful. » After your child is escorted to your car at the shade awnings adjacent to the sidewalk, please pull ahead and around to the parking area if you need to help your child finish buckling into their seat so that the line can continue for loading. If there are any changes from the usual carpool routine (i.e. your child going home with a friend or different driver), please indicate the change via the Queful app; parents can communicate with the Primary School front desk to verify.

IMPORTANT: If your child is arriving after 8:15 a.m., please

plan to park at the front of the Primary School building and walk in to the lobby.

STUDENT HEALTH MAGNUS HEALTH

 All students must have a

completed Magnus Health profile before they can attend school. See myHIES Resources tab.

Students cannot receive

medication (Prescription/ OTC) until parent permission completed in Magnus Health.

 Students cannot carry

medications (Prescription/ OTC) unless authorized by a HIES Nurse. EpiPens, inhalers and insulin can be carried by a student.

If a student needs to take

PRN medication during the school day, it must be kept in the clinic. Please complete the medication administration portion in Magnus.

 If your child has a specific

condition that requires medical attention, please upload a MD signed Action Plan onto your student’s Magnus profile.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS Golden Bear Parent Involvement

There are many avenues to connect as a member of the HIES community, including with the Parents’ Association, and other affinity groups, including the Holy Innocents’ Cultural Awareness and Acceptance Partners and the HIES Moms Mentoring Moms, among others. The Parents’ Association monthly email newsletter is a reliable source of important dates & events and also provides contacts for Grade Level Representatives. You can follow them on Instagram @hies_parents_association. Parent Night, Principal’s Coffees & Conferences

Parents are invited within the first month of school for an evening event to learn more about schedules, curriculum and to hear from teachers during Parent Night. Principal’s Coffee events occur throughout the year with special areas of focus.

Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled at least twiceyearly and teachers are always available for questions via email or by appointment. Classroom Celebrations

Parents are invited to organize and assist with class holiday parties and other special events throughout the year, and can visit for lunch or as a guest reader with advance arrangements. Support Services

Holy Innocents’ provides individual student evaluations multiple times a year in order to discern the most effective ways for students to thrive. We seek to partner with parents to ensure that all four main domains for learning are maximized: Cognitive, Social-Emotional, Motor Skills and Language. We provide support for Speech-Langugage Pathology on campus, and can offer Occupational Therpay on a contract basis.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

At Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School, we believe that education and learning continue after the regular school hours. For our Primary School students, we offer programming options every weekday until 6:00 p.m. for registered families. For more information about course descriptions and parent policies, please visit www.hies.org/campus-life/ after-school-programs. BASE

BASE is an extended day program open for all HIES students in PK3 through fifth grade. Our program offers a structured and supervised environment for children which begins the moment the school day finishes and runs until 6:00 p.m. Each day, the staff provides age-appropriate group activities, outdoor free play and organized games, puzzles and books. ACE

The objective of ACE is to offer programs to enrich HIES students (PK3 - 8th) in the areas of academics, fine arts, STEAM and athletics with the goal of providing an opportunity for every student to be an active participant in the HIES community. Registration for ACE classes occurs each semester or quarter. Bear Camps (PK4 - 12th Grade)

Bear Camps are open to the community with morning, afternoon and full-day sessions with a variety of themes and focus areas for academics, athletics and fine arts. More information and registration is available online at www.hies.org/ campus-life/bear-camps.
