A Vibrant You

Sometimes change happens slowly, like the building up of skills or the breaking down of habits. Other times, it begins with a catalyst.

Linda Rasch Vibrant You Living

Linda Rasch, with Vibrant You Living, inspires change.

By tackling clients’ personal goals and any hang-ups that may get in the way of those goals, she helps people refocus on their passions, and realize which actions aren’t serving their purposes. First, she focuses on personal values, and inevitably it impacts the brand.

She teaches that vibrancy can be learned one conscious decision at a time.

“I once went from meeting to meeting in corporate America—few bathroom breaks, and often no lunches,” she said. “I knew I wanted to do more than what I was doing at my corporate job, so I became a health coach on the side.”

For two years, she stuck with the demanding schedule of a corporate job, pursuing her passion on a part-time (and exhausting) basis while continuing to make the “big bucks” via the corporate ladder. With one hand loosely gripping her passions, she struggled to keep balance, unsteadily moving up in a direction she wasn’t even sure she wanted to go.

After tragedy struck, she let go.

“In one year, my birth mom came into my life, and within that year, she died. That same year, my adopted mom had a stroke,” she said. Linda never asked for help. She kept through the motions, until she was hurting so much as an individual that she couldn’t show up as a leader anymore. Something had changed within her—triggering an impatience for the monotony of a career that didn’t feed her passions, and she just couldn’t go through the motions anymore.

“I took a medical leave, and I just never went back. Shortly after, I started to share my story with family and friends. I became vulnerable for the first time in a long time, and people responded.” Now she helps people assess their stories, and if need be, start rewriting.

“A lot of business women/entrepreneurs get distracted by all the things they have to do, and forget about the things they love to do. At some point, their focus has shifted from that ‘thing’ that makes them come alive: their purpose.”

Linda—using herself as an example—says that success in your business starts with you. “If you’re not your best self, you can’t truly express yourself. If you can’t express yourself, your brand suffers.” She connects purpose with profession.

Starting with a simple exploration of a client’s aspirations, she helps assess which daily motivators aren’t serving the client’s purpose. An influencer of vibrancy, it seems, is clarity.

HEALTH INSURANCE the LAW ANNUAL ENROLLMENT DATES: Under 65 is November 15th, 2014 and Over 65 is October 15th, for coverage to start on January 1, 2015.

INJURY :

Insurance helps offset your medical expenses if you are injured or sick.

MYTH: Those that don’t like Obamacare, don’t like women.

REALITY : Birth control pills were covered under a pharmacy benefit before Obamacare. Now, they are covered under a preventive health benefit.

MYTH: They won’t know if I don’t have it.

REALITY: Although there are some exceptions, you probably will be receiving something from your insurance company, that you will provide to your CPA, when you file your taxes.

SICKNESS: I never get sick, so why do I need to have health insurance?

MYTH: Since there is no pre-existing conditions anymore, I will just buy it when I get sick.

REALITY: Responsible people buy insurance. You can only buy insurance during Annual Enrollment or if you have a Special Enrollment, but for a limited time.

UNABLE: I can’t afford health insurance.

MYTH: It’s FREE or I want OBAMACARE insurance.

REALITY: You may be eligible for a subsidy if you make less than 400% of the federal poverty level. Obamacare is a political name, it is not an insurance product.

REQUIRED: Not only are you required to have insurance, but that policy MUST cover certain things.

MYTH: You can just say you don’t want maternity coverage if you are 64 yr. old person.

REALITY: That was true prior to the new health care law, but not anymore. A new born must also have dental coverage, even if they don’t have teeth (some restrictions).

AVAILABLE: Your old insurance policy is no longer available for purchase and your doctor may no

longer be in the network.

MYTH: My doctor was in the network, so they would be if I kept the same policy.

REALITY: A lot of network changes are happening due to the new healthcare law. You want to make sure you verify that your doctor is in the network. Verify with the insurance company, not the doctor’s office.

NEED:

You need to apply for insurance during the time period allowed.

MYTH: I forgot to fill out my insurance application, but I am sure they will accept it because I am a good employee/customer.

REALITY: There is no longer wiggle room on application submission dates, due to the new healthcare laws. The law is the law.

CHANGE: You can only change insurance plans during certain periods. Annual Enrollment starts

November 15th for people under 65 and October 15th, for people over 65.

MYTH: My employer just increased my premium, so I am going to take my spouses employer coverage.

REALITY: You can only get on your spouses’ plan or purchase individual coverage during Annual Enrollment of if you have a Qualifying Event. Not wanting to pay a higher premium is not a Qualifying Event. (This changed with the new health care laws).

ENROLL: You can only enroll when you are eligible.

MYTH: I forgot to buy health insurance because I was too busy.

REALITY: You must wait to enroll after November 15th, for coverage to be in effect January 1, 2015. That is right, you will have to pay your own medical bills and you will also be fined a penalty.

How to Sip Wine Like a Pro Do you feel intimidated by wine? Do you go to your local wine shop and are overwhelmed by the “sea of wine?” Or perhaps invited to a business dinner and unsure of how to order and taste wine? If so, you are not alone. I’ve discovered even some professionals have what I call WINEtimidation®, a term I have trademarked and defined as: the lack of self-confidence in knowledge about fermented grape juice. My goal is to help you feel comfortable and confident about wine.

I speak to several professional organizations and teach them wine etiquette and the art of tasting wine. Below are the five steps to tasting wine like a professional. I include all five steps, even though you will usually only use two. I want you to know all five so you feel smart and savvy about wine.

How to Taste Wine Like a Pro

1. See. Look at the color against a white backdrop. Color is a clue to how much body a wine will have and the wine’s age. White wines can vary in color from almost clear to honey and become more golden with bottle aging. Red wines range in color from a pale salmon to a deep purple, and over time, they lose color and have a brown undertone. In general, the more color a wine has, the heavier it will feel on your palate.

2. Swirl your glass of wine to help it breathe. Remember that wine is an agricultural product and has been trapped inside a bottle for at least a year, usually two years, and may need some time to open up or aerate and let its best qualities develop. Give the wine a good swirl in your glass, and you may notice the legs or tears streaming down your glass.

Thick legs indicate a full body wine with a higher alcohol content. To demonstrate how breathing changes a wine, I encourage you to open a bottle of red wine and taste it immediately. Then wait for an hour or two and taste it again. Usually, you will notice a big difference between the first taste and the second one after the wine has breathed for an hour. If you don’t want to wait an hour, you can also use an aerator. When using an aerator for this experiment, open the bottle and pour the wine in your glass; taste; then use the aerator and taste.

3. Sniff. Stick your nose in the glass and let the aromas come through. I know, you are thinking of the movie Sideways where Simon’s nose is so far into his glass, you are certain it is stuck. You do not need to go to this extreme! Simply put your nose halfway in, so you can smell the bouquet of aromas. If you close your eyes, you will be more able to focus on your sense of smell and identify honeysuckle, blackberry jam, rose petals, cedar and so on. Remember that smell is over 70% of how you taste anything.

4. Sip. Take a small sip to cleanse your palate. This will neutralize any strong tastes, such as blue cheese or barbeque pork, you just ate and prepare you for tasting the wine. Next take a full sip and swish in your mouth.

5. Swallow. This is the moment you have been waiting for—actually enjoying the wine. Once you have a full taste in your mouth, you can choose to aerate the traditional way of breathing in through your mouth while the wine is in your mouth. However, my friend nearly choked doing this, so I choose to close my mouth and swish in a front-to-back motion across my tongue. You are trying to detect new flavors and feel the body of the wine on your palate. Lastly, and most of all, enjoy this moment with wine!
