From the Editor When I was a girl, our family moved a lot. In fact, I don’t remember being in a school for much more than a year. Regardless of the address I held, there was always one place I called home - it was my retreat, my sanctuary. The furniture, carpet, and draperies didn’t make it my sanctuary. It was the comfort I felt while there. The following are key to making a house a sanctuary: Structure - Creating structure with your belongings and a schedule for your time takes discipline, but also makes it easier to relax. “Structure & discipline” isn’t about hard-fisted rules, but rather understanding and peace. Love - It’s easy to take for granted that you love your family or friends, but learning what makes them feel loved is worth the time. Showing them love through acts of kindness goes a long way to making one feel comfortable. A home must be able to nurture love. Food - It’s one of our basic needs, but not everyone can walk into the kitchen for a snack. Making this convenience a priority can ease stress you didn’t realize was there. With three kids just over a year apart, our home often felt more like a zoo than a sanctuary. We didn’t have all of these things all of the time, but life was most peaceful when we did. I pray your home is a sanctuary for you and yours. Until next time, Metro Woman, I celebrate & support you!

How New Decor Can Give Renewed Hope
T
here was a time when I wanted to put a sign by the front door that said, “This home is NOT a reflection of who I am!” This was before HGTV. This was before I discovered what a little paint and a few accessories can do to transform things into more of what you want.
At that time, I didn’t have much extra money. I did have enough to get a cute breakfast tray, a pretty placemat and a new coffee cup. I also painted my wicker chair. This gave me a fresh, new space to start my day. It represented who I was then. Another time I was starting over, but in the same home. I wanted something to represent my new future. I bought an inexpensive, inspirational picture and hung it on my living room wall. Several times each day, I walked by my picture which made me smile. I find that if you are going through a transition – new job – new status (married or newly single) – empty nest – an identity crisis of some Author, Paula Shumaker O’Donnell sort, then it helps to have something visual – something writes “Monday Motivation” concrete – that says, “This is who I am now!” for businesses, individuals, and publications such as “Guideposts Magazine,” “Mysterious Ways,” “Angels on Earth,” and “Woman’s World.” Visit her website at theworldneedsyou. com or email mycoachpaula@ aol.com
What can you do to update your home to reflect who you are? Do you need to create a space to call your own? Whether you paint your walls or a chair, whether you buy new placemats or one picture to express who you are – these things, in themselves, aren’t hope. But what they can do is give you a glimmer of a new future – a new sense of self – and sometimes that is enough to begin…

How To Survive A Panic Attack When It Strikes By: Stan Popovich Do you experience panic attacks and do not know what to do? A person can experience a panic attack when they least expect it. This can cause a great deal of fear and anxiety for the person. As a result, here are six easy steps a person can follow when a panic attack strikes unexpectedly and how to overcome anxiety. 1.Take A Break: The first thing a person must do when experiencing a panic attack is to stop whatever they are doing. A panic attack can be very uncomfortable and can affect a person’s everyday thinking. Take a break to help regain your sense of comfort. 2.Take Deep Breaths: A person should take some deep breaths to help feel better and to get rid of some of the excessive fear and anxiety. There are also many kinds of breathing exercises a person can learn to follow with the help of a mental health counselor. Taking some deep breaths can help a person relax right away. 3.Distract Yourself: A person should try to distract themselves from the panic they are experiencing. A person could get some fresh air, listen to some music, take a brisk walk, read the newspaper, or do something relaxing that will give them a fresh perspective on things. 4.Get The Facts Of Your Situation:
Many people feel like they are going to die when they experience a panic attack for the first time. The fact is that you will be ok and that it takes a few minutes for the anxiety to go away. Talk to a counselor and get the facts of what a panic attack is and what you can do when a panic attack occurs. 5.Don’t Dwell on Your Thoughts: A person must not dwell or focus on their thoughts during a panic attack. The more a person tries to reason out their thoughts the longer a panic attack will last. Read some positive statements from your favorite self-help book to help overcome your negative thoughts during a panic attack. 6.Get Help: Take advantage of the help that is available around you. If possible, talk to a professional who can help you manage your depression and anxieties. They will be able to provide you with additional advice and insights on how to deal with your current problem. By talking to a professional, a person will be helping themselves in the long run because they will become better able to deal with their problems in the future. Remember that it never hurts to ask for help. Stan Popovich is the author of “A Layman’s Guide to Managing Fear Using Psychology, Christianity and Non Resistant Methods”. Art in Bloom at the Springfield Art Museum The Springfield Art Museum and Art Mosaic One invite you to Art In Bloom 2019, our second annual signature event celebrating fine art and fantastic floral displays. This four-day festival (April 25 – 28) invites floral designers from throughout the region to imaginatively interpret works of art on view in the Museum’s galleries and presents them alongside those works for the community’s enrapt enjoyment. Art In Bloom includes prize categories for featured florists, an incredible preview party with a nature-inspired runway show, floral arranging workshops, art-making activities, live musical performances, and more! Art In Bloom serves to elevate the craft of floral design, providing a unique venue for the display and recognition of the artistic efforts of talented florists in
our region. Proceeds from Art In Bloom events benefit the Museum’s Art Acquisition Fund. Recent high-profile acquisitions have helped energize attention and increase patronage at YOUR Art Museum. They are utilized as teaching tools for over 6,500 children who attend educational tours, and the 60,000 patrons who visit the Museum annually. None of this would be possible without a robust Art Acquisition Fund. Last year’s event featured 28 floral designers from 15 companies interpreting 30 works of art. We welcomed 1,600 patrons (the largest Museum event in recent history), raised over $21,000 and awarded $2,000 in prize money. This unique event, inspired by spring, is a wonderful marriage of floral interpretation and fine art. Tickets go on sale March 15. Learn more about Art In Bloom by visiting www.sgfmuseum.org.

What Are Can YourHelp Goals forReach 2019? Your Goals How a Health Coach You Evidence shows that traditional methods of health teaching don’t work well, but health coaching improves outcomes. Health coaching is a rather new concept which began due to this observation. Traditional teaching essentially directs information at you. Health coaches, on the other hand, help you discover your true health concerns and desired changes, exploring the reasons why you may be uncertain about making the behavior changes which will positively impact your health. Our focus is on YOU, the client, your goals, and your agenda! Health coaches help you identify the support systems available to you that will help you achieve behavior changes, and ultimately your health goals. You must be an active participant in your own health care. Behavior change comes from you, making you the true change agent. You will find the most success when you are the one leading your life and setting your goals, not someone else. Health coaches are acredited, certified professionals who use clinical evidence-based practice interventions, your condition, and medical history to safely guide goal setting, health teaching, and give medical advice as the need arises. A qualified health coach is your health accountability partner. Are you tired of being overweight, worn- out, and disheartened? Are you ready to feel confident, energized, and empowered again?
