Celebrate Mom!
Refrigerator Notes It feels like we’ve all lived a lifetime in the the span of a couple of months. Our kids are all still home. Many of you are working from home. We’re beginning to take slow, measured steps toward coming out of our stay-athome realities during the coronavirus pandemic. This issue of Kids Directory is unique– You’ll only find it here...where you are reading it in its digital format. We didn’t print paper copies because, at the time we finished putting it together, only a few businesses were beginning to reopen. At the same time, with an abundance of caution, you (and we) are understandably hesitant about touching things: our faces, a door handle, a shopping cart, our groceries and packages... A new facet of this digital issue is that we have hyperlinked the ads to our advertisers’ websites or Facebook pages. You are one click away from more information about reopening plans, in-person and online class schedules, camps, and services. When you interact with our advertisers, let them know you found them through Kids Directory. We offered advertisers the opportunity to be in this issue as a community service so that they can reach you, and YOU can see them. Several of them are announcing reopening plans with their ads, and we are SO excited to see that. For many advertisers normally offering summer camps and classes, those plans may have changed or been canceled. Remember we aren’t back to businessas-usual. And, our online calendar of events is pretty lean right now.
Danielle on our staff is the queen of Kids Eat Free. She diligently called all of the KEF restaurants to confirm if they were giving their typical offers, something new, or not at all. As you know, some restaurants are opening their dining rooms but under very strict guidelines. For some families, carry-out and curbside pick-up will be the norm for awhile. We’ve temporarily removed those restaurants that aren’t honoring their Kids Eat Free offers this month. We’re confident they will be back with us soon! Remember when you’re on the go, you’ll find Kids Eat Free on our website, SpringfieldKids.com. During this month of May, we are celebrating Moms. It’s been a tough couple of months. Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 10. Remember to be kind to yourself. One of the best lessons my mother taught me was not to sweat how my house looked. Yes, keep it clean. Tidy up as much as you can. But, don’t beat yourself up about it. “If someone comes over to see me,” she often said, “they can come right in. If they came to see the house, they need to make an appointment.” We’re not entirely sure what June will hold for Kids Directory. We may have a printed magazine distributed around the community for you to pick up. Or, we may be digital only. We’re still figuring that all out–based on what businesses are open and if there are restrictions that would keep us from having magazines available to you. Watch our Facebook page and website for updates. Wishing you good health, safety, and peace. |
