Refrigerator Notes In this issue.. The text read, “I could use friend. I need to vent.” I didn’t respond because I called her before she could call me. Usually these conversations end up with one or both of us in tears at one point and laughing at another. She can count on me, and I her. I’ve got my group of close friends... some would refer to them as my “tribe.” We help each other through all the highs and lows of life. We’re a text or a phone call away. Here’s what I hope I’ve taught my son about friends. You don’t need to be the most popular kid in school to have friends. And, you don’t need to be friends with everyone (respectful, yes, but not necessarily friends). Those friends you do choose deserve loyality, love, and dependability. You are there for them as they are for you. July 30 is International Friendship Day, and I will take a few minutes to send a note or text to my group to let them know I cherish their friendship. We all need to know we are important to others. So, encourage your kids to build meaningful friendships. And, remember to tell the ones who mean the most to you how much you care. As always, be good to yourself. |
