makeup, body wash, and lipstick among other things.

My grandma was like most grandmas in the early 70s and 80s. Her makeup was on point. She’d been taught by the Avon lady how to apply it best to flatter her complexion. And when the doorbell rang, she got excited, especially when the Avon lady called with a new catalog and colors.

“It’s not your ’ A ”

But the world grandma s von has changed, and so has Avon. Leisurely afternoons shopping the Avon catalog are replaced by hectic days racing around town. Thankfully, Avon’s stepped up its products to match our busy lifestyle. “It’s not your grandma’s Avon,” Penny reminded me when I noted not one of the last three ladies in the store were over 30. The young women popped in for mineral

Considerations for Adopting a Stepchild by Ketchen Willison When a special bond is formed between a child and stepparent, they may consider an adoption to formalize this bond. Though you did not contribute to their biology, as a stepparent you contributed to the love and support they need to be successful adults. Adoption can solidify the family unit and a child’s sense of security.

responsibilities of a parent from a child’s birth parents to the adoptive parents. There are fewer requirements for stepparent adoptions than for other adoptions because the stepparent usually has become a key part of the child’s life already.

Want to know more?

Call for a free initial consultation The choice to adopt as a stepparent requires taking the child(ren) and extended families feelings into consideration, even the biological parents whose rights are being terminated, either by consent or terminated by the court. If the stepparent can get consent for the adoption from the child’s other biological parent, the process should flow smoothly.

Submit your questions to admin@mwjusticecenter.com and you may see it here. This column is designed to give general information and should not be construed as legal advice on any specific fact or circumstance & does not create an attorney/ client relationship. The choice of a lawyer is an important decision and should not be based solely upon advertisements.

Because an adoption terminates the biological parent’s rights to the child (including the right to seek parenting time), he/she must be given notice of an adoption proceeding unless they voluntarily terminate their parental rights and consent to adoption. Often a parent will consent to avoid support payments. Adoption permanently transfers all legal rights and

You just may be the answer to someone’s wish list…

Recently, I read that only 6% of holiday giving goes to seniors. Of course, we don’t want to stop giving to children to ensure that kids have a wonderful Christmas, but maybe you could do one more thing… like organize a group of friends to put together gift bags for seniors in a nursing home. A few years ago, I called a nursing home to inquire if any residents were without visitors or gifts at Christmastime, and I was told a staggering 22 people. Several of us made gift bags with lotions, hot chocolate packets, spiced cider packets, hard candies, and a chocolate snowman. It was inexpensive, but the people were thrilled to receive a gift. Another year, we gave each person an inexpensive holiday-themed fleece throw. Someone said it felt like a hug each day! Another idea is helping single mothers. Part of the fun of the holidays is doing things with your children. If there is a holiday show, play or event, consider

buying tickets for a mom and her children who might not be able to afford extras. You could even be an anonymous secret Santa. Or, consider babysitting her children so she can have a few hours to shop or relax with friends. And lastly, I remember hearing that teenagers, especially boys, often have slim pickings when it comes to charity holiday drives. As much fun as it is for me to buy little girl toys, I also try to find something that a teenage boy would like and donate that to a local holiday drive.

Sometimes it takes only one act of kindness to change a person’s life. What a gift that is!
