At Sewing Machines Express we frequently hear “I wish I could make my own clothing”. This statement is followed by the following reasons why the consumer wants to sew their clothing.

1. My clothes don’t fit correctly.

2. Nowadays the clothes aren’t constructed to last.

3. I don’t want my outfit to look like someone else’s outfit.

4. The elegant sophisticated styles of the past aren’t available in my size.

5. There is no defined fashion statement for my age group.

The answer to the above statements is to start creating. First, you need a sewing machine with a perfect stitch. Carefully examine the top thread and bobbin thread. Do they look the same on each side? If not your machine may need to be serviced or replaced. Always be sure to start your project with a new needle suited to your fashion fabric.

Your goal is a perfect fitting garment. We suggest you select a Palmer-Pletsch pattern especially for

fitting or buy a basic article of clothing at a thrift shop and fine tune the fit. When the fit is perfect take the article of clothing apart for your pattern.

Remember to do all changes with a basting thread so it can be taken apart easily. Construction of the garment is next. If you don’t know how to sew use the internet to go to you tube for one on one lessons on how to sew. It may take practice on techniques but you can master these skills.

As a baby boomer graduating in 1969, I remember we had defined fashion trends for each season. You can look through magazines or store flyers to discover embellishments to complete your garment. The embroidery patterns are endless and the instructions on YouTube are excellent for embellishments.

Consider your age group for fashion appropriate designs. I am not looking for miniskirts and bell bottoms, but I am looking for comfort. I long for the days of Heer’s, Levi Wolf, Paris and Mark’s, but I am realistic that sewing can become an important part of our fashion statement in 2014.

hotography has been Jennifer Grant’s passion for as long as she can remember.

When she was 8 years old she received her first camera for Christmas from her parents. Jennifer literally set up her first backdrop on her parents’ dryer and took photos of her stuffed animals. This didn’t make her mother too happy when she later had the film developed!

So then she began photographing her niece, the family dog, and anyone else that would stand still long enough. She really began to take “more professional” photos after her oldest of four children was born (18 years ago). Soon after, she decided to turn her passion into a full time career and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Photography from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, while working full time at a photography studio in Branson.

In March of 2013 she decided to venture out on her own and open her own portrait studio in Ozark. There she specializes in all types of photography including maternity, newborns,

seniors, weddings, and more. Children are by far her favorite of all to photograph as she loves children’s unpredictability, that’s what makes them fun and entertaining. She really doesn’t wait for that perfect shot all of the time because sometimes it’s the fluke shots that will melt mommy and daddy’s hearts.

She offers on-site or in studio packages, she has no time limit on photo shoots and always offers unlimited outfit changes for family and seniors!
