A NOTE from the Publisher Welcome to the September issue of NEA Kids’ Directory, the newest addition to the Occasions Publishing Group family of publications. NEA Kids’ Directory has many features that make it a valuable resource for parents, teachers, grandparents, and childcare professionals – anyone who is involved with children. It is compact in size, making it a handy resource to keep in your purse or car. In addition, it offers valuable coupons for use at kid-friendly businesses and includes a calendar of events so you know what’s going on across Northeast Arkansas each month. You’ll even find a convenient dining guide inside that lists restaurants offering free or discounted kids meals! Our goal each month is to help inform our readers of the many opportunities, events, products and services available for families in Northeast Arkansas. Please remember to support the businesses that advertise in this publication each month and tell them that you saw their ad in NEA Kids’ Directory. If you are interested in advertising in NEA Kids’ Directory, please call us at 931-0012.

2017 Children’s Healthcare Guide Fever and Pain Medicine:
Children under Age 2: Always call your pediatrician before giving acetaminophen to a child under 2 years of age, and call right away if your child is under three months of age and has a fever.
How Much To Give Your Child Parents may not realize that manufacturers of fever and pain medicine standardized the amount of acetaminophen in infant’s and children’s overthe counter liquid acetaminophen medicines in 2011. Below are some helpful guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) on how much of this medication to give children:
Children over Age 2: For children over the age of 2 years, check the label to see how much medicine to give. If you know your child’s weight, use that. If you do not know your child’s weight, go by age for the dose amount.
Important Medication Safety Reminders for Parents: • Keep all medicines out of the reach of children. • Use only the dosing device that comes with the product. Do not use a household teaspoon. • Never give adult medicines to children. • Always read and follow the label instructions. • Talk to your pediatrician if you have any questions. • If you think your child has taken too much of any medicine, call poison control at 800.222.1222.
