A NOTE from the Publisher Welcome to the August issue of NEA Kids’ Directory, the newest addition to the Occasions Publishing Group family of publications.

The exhibit “Dinosaurs: Fossils Exposed” will be open at Arkansas State University Museum. Visitors will view and even touch reproductions of full dinosaur skeletons, and there will be replicas of skulls, legs, footprints, and eggs. Kids will be able to “dig up bones” with paleontology tools. United Way’s annual Stuff the Bus event will be taking place all day at nine Walmart locations in Northeast Arkansas.

Join Jonesboro Elks for its first annual Dog Days of Summer, an amateur fun dog show fundraiser with proceeds benefitting the Northeast Arkansas Child Advocacy Center. This event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will include a dog show, prizes, vendor booths, hot dogs, and more. Info: 932-0350.

Someone’s in the Kitchen with

Let’s Make S’mores!

If you haven’t made it to the campgrounds this summer, you can still enjoy a fireside treat at home with either of these versions.

Ingredients

• 4 graham crackers • 4 jumbo marshmallows

• 1 Hershey’s chocolate bar

In the Oven!

Break the graham crackers into squares and place 4 on cookie sheet. Break chocolate bar into quarters and place pieces on top of graham crackers. Place one marshmallow on top of chocolate. Place in 350˚F oven for approximately 3 minutes, watching closely. Chocolate and marshmallow should be just slightly melted.

Remove from oven and put remaining graham crackers on top and return to oven for 1 minute. Remove and enjoy!

In the Microwave!

Break the graham crackers into squares and place 4 on microwave safe plate. Break chocolate bar in quarters and place pieces on top of graham crackers. Place one marshmallow on top of chocolate. Place in microwave for 1 minute, watching closely. The marshmallow will expand as it cooks - this is the fun part! Chocolate and marshmallow should be just slightly melted. Remove from microwave and put remaining graham crackers on top and return to microwave for 15 seconds. Remove and enjoy!
