Fit Tip VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF FITNESS When it comes to working out the

muscles of your body, and achieving a total transformation, diversity is KEY. Perhaps you or someone you know has hit a fitness-oriented plateau, or has struggled to shed those last several pounds to reach their target weight. Diversifying your workout is a key tactic to help push past the barriers holding you back, get OUT of your comfort zone, and finally achieve your ultimate fitness goals. Â Perhaps the biggest challenge with all the options out there is finding what works for you! Our bodies are genetically unique with individual experiences, so what works for a friend or family member may not work for you. Do your due diligence and take time to explore the different kinds of exercise. A good starting point to narrow down the plethora of options is to relate the kind of exercise to what your specific fitness goals are. If completing a marathon is a big target for you, HIIT Training may not be the way to go. If your goal is to be more active with your kids, what might that activity ACTUALLY look like?

Cardio training, for instance, strengthens the cardiovascular system but depletes your muscle mass. Resistance training will increase muscle mass but reduce your flexibility and endurance. Yoga improves balance and flexibility but falls on the lower end of the intensity scale. By diversifying the kinds of workouts in your routine, a balanced exercise program, like a balanced diet, can prove vital to maximizing your efforts and efficiently reaching your fitness goals. By: Jason Wells Eat the Frog Fitness, Johns Creek

Variety plays another crucial role in achieving your fitness goals when you begin mixing different types of exercises. Focusing on just one type of exercise or workout can create imbalances and may be counter to your goals.

Diversifying your workout is KEY!

Healthy Smile, Healthy YOU

Common symptoms include a puss-filled abscess at the site of the infection as well as pain, fever, nausea, and vomiting.

Problems with Fillings

Dental Emergency: Signs & Symptoms

Loose or lost fillings can interfere with your ability to chew properly and make you reluctant to smile. The affected teeth are also more vulnerable to infection and decay.

Bruxism When a dental emergency occurs, finding a dental office that offers sameday or walk-in emergency appointments is essential. If not promptly treated by a skilled emergency dentist, damaged teeth, oral infections, and other serious oral health issues can result in permanent tooth loss and other complications. The most obvious sign of an emergency dental issue is sudden or worsening tooth pain or sensitivity. The following are examples of pain-related dental issues that should not be ignored.

Lost Tooth When a tooth is knocked out completely, it can be highly upsetting. In many cases, the tooth can be saved with prompt attention.

Tooth Decay Tooth decay can happen no matter how well you take care of your teeth. It can create unbearable tooth pain that demands emergency dental care.

Grinding your teeth at night can cause damage to your teeth, such as chips, cracks and worn enamel, which merits urgent dental care. Persistent facial and mouth pain that radiates to the shoulders, neck, and ears are common symptoms of bruxism.

Strange Sinus Pressure If you have a sensation of sinus pressure that you can’t explain, it could have a dental origin. Problems like impacted teeth or dental infections could be culprits for uncomfortable sinus pressure, and they benefit from prompt treatment.

Other common dental issues that warrant a dental emergency include, acute tooth pain, sensitivity, fractured teeth, broken or lost crowns, and braces pain or damage to wires. Dental emergencies rarely happen at a convenient time, so it’s important to know these symptoms and where your nearest emergency dental office is for the health of your teeth and gums.

Abscessed Gum A damaged tooth can open the door to a serious bacterial infection of the tooth or gum.

A NEW FITNESS CONCEPT INSPIRED BY MOM Donna Skeen has been in the healthcare field for 40+ years. She is a psychologist and Director of a home health agency. Her cancer diagnosis in 2017 came as quite a surprise to her and her family as she has always been busy, energetic and healthy. Her treatment protocol called for physical therapy which helped immensely by improving her mobility, lowering her blood pressure, AND she lost weight and had more energy. After a year of physical therapy, her treatments were no longer covered by her insurance, but her doctor pleaded with her to continue exercising, to join a gym citing the improvements in her overall health. She wasn’t comfortable with the existing fitness center options, and remembered hearing the same sentiments previously from many of her own patients. Her son, Brendan, had spoken with her for several years about

an idea for a new kind of gym, one designed and catered specifically to mature adults. 55 Fitness was born and now it’s OPEN! Brendan Skeen chose our area for the first 55 Fitness! Located in the Ellard Village Shopping Center on Holcomb Bridge in Roswell, 55 Fitness is now open after a 3 month delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 55 Fitness is a truly a revolutionary new fitness center option for adults 55 and older. The gym is specifically designed to meet the needs of Baby Boomers and Seniors. They offer members an un-intimidating environment to improve their overall health and wellness within a supportive community of peers.

bioDensity The brand new facility features the bioDensity, a full lineup

of brand new Precor equipment, Queenax functional training, healthy refreshments, and a comfortable member lounge. Members benefit from technology led independent circuit workouts, group training, & 1-on-1 personal training. 55 Fitness is the first fitness center in metro Atlanta to offer members the bioDensity. This groundbreaking system is an advanced exercise-based therapy shown to improve a number of medical conditions and health concerns in only one 30 Minute session per week. It is a safe and effective health and wellness product which, studies show, can build strength, increase bone density, improve functional movement, reduce cardiac risk and improve Type 2 diabetes...all of which can lead to an improved quality of life and reduced healthcare costs while providing a solution for those who are not able to commit to a typical exercise regimen.

Try 55 Fitness for free! Stop by during normal business hours until August 31 to receive 2 complimentary workouts. They are also offering discounts and promotions to celebrate their opening.

Welcome, 55 Fitness! 10

Fit Beyond 55

5 Steps for Mature Adults to Make Exercise a Habit After COVID-19 The negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent government-imposed restrictions go far beyond simply the economic impact. The physical health and overall wellness of many Americans has been negatively impacted and there is no other age group that has been more adversely affected than adults 55 and over. Here are five steps to integrate exercise back into your daily life after COVID-19. Check with your Primary Care Physician First They can advise activities that best meet your needs and inform you of the potential impact they could have on any pre-existing conditions. Don't Overdo It When starting out it is important not to overdo it. Overdoing your exercise routine in the beginning is the number one reason why people give up, so remember to pay attention to signals your body is sending you. If it hurts, don’t do it. If it makes you dizzy, stop. Establish a Routine. Set Reasonable Goals. When it comes to physical activity, the more you do, the more you can do. You will be setting yourself up for

failure if you expect to lose 20lbs or appear 10 years younger after a few visits to a gym. Instead, try imagining the best version of yourself that you can be right now, and commit to physical fitness as a lifelong project. Exercise with Friends. A supportive community of peers can lead to much better results. Working out with friends can be inspiring, make workouts fun, and make all the difference helping you achieve your goals. Consult with a Personal Trainer While many aging Americans have chronic health problems and concerns about injury, a big barrier to getting enough exercise is often psychological. A trainer can help you overcome those fears and tailor a fitness plan to your specific strengths and limitations. The benefits of regular physical activity are proven, from controlling stress levels, to strengthening your body’s immune response, and lowering the risk of heart disease and stroke. Exercise may not be a cure for aging but it’s not just about living longer, it’s about improving your quality of life. By: Brendan Skeen, 55 Fitness
