Managing Emotions Have you ever told yourself “I’m not going to cry” then, felt something moist and warm flowing down your cheeks? Have you ever told yourself I’m over it and stayed up all night thinking about it? Have you ever had strong feelings for someone and was upset with yourself because the feelings didn’t appear mutual? And even though your mind was made up, your heart appeared to refuse to let go, almost throwing a tantrum like a child being pulled away from her mother. There comes a time when your emotions will no longer affect any of your decisions, this only occurs after you have taken your last breath. Sometimes Emotions can be a dream come true and other times they can feel like a nightmare. In This article we will use the Word of God to Help you on your quest to Manage your Emotions. People’s perception of your character is many times based off of your emotional responses. If you are easily upset, you are labeled as an angry person. If you laugh and smile consistently, people consider you a friendly person. “Proverbs 18: 24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly.” Are you having a difficult time acquiring or maintaining friendships? What does those around you say about your character? Please say “I found it in Midlands Metro Woman.” Thanks! 6

As human beings we are extremely vulnerable to many of life’s pressures, setbacks, mishaps, and sometimes even catastrophic events that only God himself have the power to control. No-one is immune to trouble, but the way you respond to trouble is completely up to you. We can all think of times when we attempted to manage a situation only to find that our efforts were ineffective, and at times the situation seemed to get worse before it would get better. Christ gave us a piece of advice in John 14: 1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, Believe also in me. Do you really believe that God is greater than your situation? if your faith in God begins to weaken, so too will the control over your emotions weaken. Maybe there are constant challenges in your Marriage or Relationship. Maybe you have done everything to manage your relationship properly, yet sometimes your emotions reveal themselves through explosive outburst. Can you manage your emotions while in a relationship filled with disagreements and misunderstandings? Proverbs 15: 1 A gentle answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger. The reason me and my wife have been married for 20 years is partly accredited to these two words “I apologize.” It’s not a question of who is wrong or right. “I apologize.” These words are the reset button for peace. How often do you put away your pride and apply these words to your relationship? Maybe it is your children who have begun to do things that have you extremely worried about their future, and you realize that the things that worked during your upbringing seems almost ineffective in this toxic environment. Can you manage your emotions when it seems you are losing control of your child? We have invested a lot of time, energy and conversation in the development of our children. It can be said that they are an extension of our own lives. Proverbs 22: 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. This scripture has a comical element to it because it says that the child would heed to your training when he is old, which leaves to question, what happens while they are young? It has been my personal experience that many kids go through a phase of rebellion some more than others. I’ve l earned to manage my emotions during this phase because in many of these situation you will see that the child will be okay. Are you allowing the issues with your children to totally alter your emotional state? My greatest tool in the quest to managing emotions has been the Comforting Spirit of the Lord. John 14:26-27 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Meet Cynthia B. Stukes Owner of Carolina Couture

She started the business on the side while working a full-time job after completing her accounting degree at USC. She bought clothing at shows and sold them out of the trunk of her car by word of mouth. Her first real store was in the extra room at the back of the accounting office she founded. “It was a 4,000-squarefoot building. We had an extra room in the back, and my sister suggested bridal,” Stukes said.“It has turned out to be a good decision.” Stukes’ typical day begins at 5 a.m. with morning prayer and mediation. She works a few hours from home, then arrives at the stores between 7:30 and 9 a.m. She hits her front door again between 8 and 9p.m., six days a week during prom and tax season. “You have to be a go-getter,” she advises. She also attributes her success to two major factors. Staying focus and having a prayer life and second which is very vital. Having your spouse (Robert) which is the co-owner working side by sife her encouraging her that “we can do this”. If I did not have Robert working and praying right by my side, it will be a very difficult task, Stukes said. “Knowing your purpose and plan and staying on track are essential.” she said. “I have people come in and give me advise, like adding dresses for $25 and shoes for $15. People can find those prices in other places. We are “couture”, therefore it will not benefit us to sell shoes and etc, at that price. Also we offer a higher level of customer service that you will not find no where else. When that customer enter the door, we serve them.” Another challenge is price competition. “The client may not be happy with the other bridal stores, but gets the better price. I always ask about the quality of the garment and the level of customer service... we steam and prepare everything before it goes on the floor, then a week or two before the event, the client can come in and we’ll steam clean it again, which can take up to three hours for some of the gowns.” “Retail will always be my passion. It just takes extreme patience and a love of people to stay on track. I am a people-person, and it is just the right fit, “Stukes said. Village at Sandhill 661-15 Promenade Place Columbia, SC 29229

Party-Perfect Tips to Boost Your Backyard Barbecue

Grilling and entertaining go hand-in-hand, but summer barbecues often mean guests come and go, making it difficult to time your meal so everyone can enjoy savory flavors fresh off the fire. These tips from the grilling gurus at Johnsonville Sausage will help ensure your next backyard bash is a hit from the first bite to the last. Make grilled meat great Bratwursts are a backyard barbecue staple, and a brat hot tub is the perfect solution to feeding a large group. The tub keeps the brats hot and full of flavor until your guests are ready to snag one. To add some variety to your party menu, you can even create multiple tubs, each designated for a different brat flavor. This recipe shows how easy and delicious this trick can be, especially when you start with a burst of flavor from a seasonal favorite like Johnsonville’s Firecracker Bratwurst, Hatch Green Chile or Jalapeno Cheddar. Replenishing the spread all day won’t leave you much time for your own celebrating, but with brat hot tubs lining the table and low maintenance side dishes, you can jump in and enjoy the party. Round out your menu with items such as chips, grilled veggies, a simple antipasto platter, corn on the cob, baked beans and grab-and-go desserts such as brownies and cookies. A fan set on low near the food station is a nice trick to help deter uninvited insect guests. Clean Up Quickly Unfortunately, an exciting backyard barbecue won’t clean itself. When it’s time to take care of the dinner mess, try these simple, quick solutions so you can get back to entertaining your guests: * While the grill is still warm, brush the grates to make sure your tools are ready for next time. If there isn’t a grill brush handy, try crumpling up a sheet of aluminum foil and scraping it along the grates with a pair of tongs. * Instead of dirtying glassware, set out disposable plates, cups and utensils to cut down time at the sink or loading the dishwasher. * To keep from roaming the entire yard on trash duty, set wastebaskets or trash bags in plain sight so guests can help clean up as the party goes on. Find more recipes and tips to help step up your grill game at Johnsonville.com. Brat Hot Tub Prep time: 30 minutes Servings: 6 1 large (11-by-9-inch-by-2 3/8-inch) aluminum foil baking pan 2-3 cans (12 ounces) beer 2 tablespoons butter 1 medium yellow or white onion, sliced 6 Johnsonville Brats, plus additional (optional) Heat grill to 150 F Place baking pan directly on grill. Pour in beer and add butter and onion slices. Grill brats until juicy and golden-brown, approximately 20-25 minutes, turning occasionally over low flame. Serve immediately, placing any remaining brats into steaming hot tub to keep warm. Source: Johnsonville Please say “I found it in Midlands Metro Woman.” Thanks!14

Mix Up Your Grilling Fare Tired of the same burgers and hot dogs at every cookout? Elevate your typical grilling fare by preparing a crowd-pleasing mixed grill, or parrillada mixta, inspired by the bold flavors of Latin America. Simply marinate tender cuts of steak, chicken and shrimp overnight and fire up the grill the next day to create a juicy, tantalizing spread that’s perfect for sharing. Whether your family and friends prefer smoky steaks or sweet, charred shrimp, there’s something for everyone.

To take your spread to the next level, follow these tips from chef Johnny Hernandez and the makers of Tabasco Sauce: * Cook over a wood flame to add a richer, smokier flavor to grilled meats. * Marinate proteins to ensure flavors are properly and evenly incorporated. * Create high- and low-heat zones on the grill to control and ensure even cooking for different types of meats and vegetables. * Paste with extra Tabasco Sauce while grilling to give meats and vegetables an added flavor boost.
