1: Make it a Family Thing! Kids love to be on the go, and what better way to teach your children the importance of exercising than by doing it with them! Go on a family walk around the neighborhood, ride a bike on Tucker Creek Trail or take them to hike Pinnacle Mountain.

Arkansas is the Natural State, and there are so many fun activities that we can do outside with our kiddos!

Staying as a Summer time is upon us! It’s time for sunshine, sunscreen, pool water and barbecues! School is out, and the kids are home.

2: Train and Compete. There are many local races happening in the month of June. Why not train for one as a family? An added bonus is that many races also benefit a great cause! Teach your children to give back to their community while also staying active.

This laid back routine, while a welcomed and necessary break, can make it difficult to maintain a fitness regimen. However, with some creativity, it’s possible to stay in great shape without taking time away from your family. Here are some tips

3: Host a “Fit Family Night” in your neighborhood. One evening a week, organize a simple fitness circuit for the whole family.

Example: A group of adults can jog around the block while another group watches the kids play. Then switch turns. To kick it up the intensity, throw in some strength training!

After running and resting briefly, do pushups and squats until it is your turn to run again. This tip not only ensures family time, it also creates a fitness community and great accountability!

Being fit and healthy doesn’t have to mean hours spent in a gym each evening. Change it up, and make it a memorable, fit summer for the whole family.

ZUCCHINI NACHOS

5 Zucchini squash 1 Pound chicken breast 1 Avocado 1 Bag of frozen corn 1 Can of black beans 1/2 Cup of shredded mozzarella Optional : Season food to taste (I use Greek seasoning) salsa, Greek yogurt to replace sour cream.

Slice Zucchini and place on a cookie sheet. Put in oven on 250 degrees for 2 hours or until chips are crispy. Or, lightly bread with flour or panko crumbs and fry in peanut oil for 7 to 8 minutes.

Cook all other ingredients in a saute pan and layer as desired. Makes 4 servings.

This meal is tasty, full of nutrition and fun to make with the kids. Remember your WHY and know you can do ALL things, be blessed.
