A Vintage Memory

H

ello, my name is Chelse Bonnett. My vision for taking my bridal pictures in a vintage car was inspired to me by my grandmother who passed about two months before my wedding day. Though this day was full of tears and heartache, I knew she was no longer suffering and with God. I was raised by my grandmother and grandfather for most of my childhood. Their business was antiques. So we traveled to swap meets and antique shows along with vintage car shows.

On any given weekend you could find us under the tent at your local flee market

selling the latest and greatest that my grandfather had fixed or found. I had a love hate relationship for flee markets as a child mostly because my friends were playing and I was working. But looking back I was learning more about life than I ever knew.

I owe them so much. They made me who I am today. In life I feel like we do things to remember the ones we loved and lost. These pictures are a tribute to my grandmother.

She was vintage, she was classy, and she was loved. I will always miss her.

Kolin & Chelse Bonnett December 2, 2011

olin and I are both business owners here in the Abilene area. I have Salon Elegance and Kolin is in the rental business. We met on Valentine’s Day in 2009. We would like to think cupid shot us with an arrow, but little did we know it was God’s way of saving us both.

Our story begins when Kolin was in the process of moving back to Abilene from Waco where he was going to McLennan community college. I was living in Tuscola with my mother and working at a daycare trying to save money to get into cosmetology school. Somehow our paths crossed in the mall of Abilene. I was there with a friend. Kolin says he saw me standing by the cookies and thought man is she pretty. He never thought I would call him back or even acknowledge him.

But he said man was I wrong.

Kolin says we loved each other from day one. He says I am his best friend and I still am twelve years later. He never thought I would stay with him. He thought, “I drive a minivan, didn’t have a job and I was

sleeping on my mother’s couch. Life was pretty but she never gave up hope and I eventually got it together.” He was truthful to me, he never lied and always tells me what the future looks like. The support he showed me with my dream to become a hairstylist was truly amazing.

After three years, on June 28th 2011, I was sick in bed and he comes in from work and gives me a kiss. I feel something cold on my tongue. It was a ring! He jumps back and says will you marry me, lol I was shocked! I asked him why he chose to propose to me when I was sick.

He said that he couldn’t think of a better way to cheer me up! And it did. We were married on December 2, 2011. www.birdiesguide.com 1 1

We spent our honeymoon in Vegas with kolin’s father James and his significant other Ginger. Though we didn’t know this at the time we only had seven years left with Kolin’s dad. He passed away in 2018 at the age of fifty from a massive heart attack. The loss is something we will never get over. James was like a father to me and was kolin’s best friend. We are blessed that James was able to see our first born.

Her name is Quinlan Everly Bonnett. She is a firecracker and has everyone wrapped around her finger. She is our pride and joy and we love her to pieces.

I believe our story is written for us from day one, I also believe we have the ability to improve that story, My husband was my first improvement, my daughter was my second, I have a small circle of friends as my third, and I have a loving family for my fourth. As for my fifth, well I’ll leave that one up to God. He has done pretty good so far!
