A GLIMPSE OF THE PAST MONTH

We kicked off the new bar year in style with the Hidalgo County Bar Association's "End of Summer Kick-off Mixer" at Howling Rabbits Beerworks in McAllen, TX! As we bid farewell to summer, our members came together for an evening of fun, laughter, and fantastic networking. The laid-back atmosphere of Howling Rabbits, paired with great brews, made for the perfect setting to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. This mixer was just the beginning of what’s shaping up to be an exciting and event-packed bar year!
A huge thank you to our amazing sponsors HKC Law Firm, Smart Start, Omar D. Vidal, M.D. Interventional Pain Specialist, and OG Marketing for capturing the memories with fantastic photos! Your support made this event a night to remember. Stay tuned we’ve got a lot more in store!

We are pleased to share that the Hidalgo County Bar Association recently held its first CLE of the bar year, along with the inaugural CLE for the Business Law and Commercial Litigation Section. The event featured Judge Noe Gonzalez from the 370th District Court, who delivered an insightful presentation on "New and Emerging Issues for Business Lawyers and Litigators: From a Judge's Perspective."
Judge Gonzalez provided a comprehensive overview of the challenges and trends currently impacting business lawyers and litigators, offering valuable insights from the bench. His presentation was well-received and set a strong foundation for this year's CLE offerings.
A special thank you to the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce for hosting the event and our lunch sponsors for that event, Ramon Worthington Law Firm and Esquire Deposition Solutions for supporting our mission to provide high-quality legal education to our members.

The Civil Trial Section of The Hidalgo County Association hosted an insightful and engaging CLE event titled “Strategic Use of Pretrial Motions,” featuring Dan Worthington. This was the first CLE for the section, and it was a complete success. The session provided valuable strategies for maximizing the effectiveness of pretrial motions, offering attendees practical tools to strengthen their litigation approach. Mr. Worthington’s expertise and dynamic presentation gave everyone in the room a fresh perspective on this crucial aspect of trial preparation. We would like to extend a very special thank you to our Civil Trial Section Co-Chairs, Henry Falcon III, and Guillermo “Memo” Tijerina Jr, for organizing this fantastic event. Their leadership and vision continue to drive the success of our sections programming.
A big thank you also goes out to Edwards Abstract & Title Co. for graciously hosting the event and creating such a welcoming atmosphere. We also deeply appreciate the Ray Thomas Law Group for sponsoring the lunch and ensuring that our attendees were well taken care of.

As shown above, we have members of the Business Law Section who attended the dynamic and informative CLE titled, “Yes You Can, No You Can’t: Non-Competes and the Texas Uniform Trade Secrets Act,” presented by Michael A McGurk of Walsh McGurk Cordova & Nixon, PLLC. Michael’s deep dive into the nuances of non-compete agreements and trade secrets law in Texas provided invaluable insights for business lawyers and litigators alike. His presentation was packed with practical advice on navigating these legal waters, making it a must-attend event for all who deal with business disputes.
The event took place at Barrel House Kitchen and Bar, and once again, they knocked it out of the park! A big shout-out to their team for always being so welcoming and ensuring everything runs smoothly- this venue has become a favorite for our section’s events.
A special thanks to our incredible section co-chairs, Deborah Cordova and Kristen Vela, for their leadership and vision in bringing this event to life. Their dedication to providing engaging and valuable programming continues to elevate our section’s work! We also can’t forget our lovely Happy Hour Sponsors, Koeneke & Gutierrez, PLLC, and Walsh McGurk Cordova & Nixon, PLLC. Your support made this event even more enjoyable, and we couldn’t have done it without you!
Stay tuned for more exciting events coming your way!
