How to choose the hat for you
BUYING TIPS
Shop by colour – Our brown hats are versatile and suit all skin tones. If you have darker hair, olive and maroon hats are great choices. For lighter hair, navy styles work well.
Think where you’ll wear it most – If it’s everyday outings, casual styles like our Baker Boy Caps or a Fedora, like the Suffolk, are great choices. For occasions, the Oxley or Chelsworth collections are striking.
Consider your face shape – Long faces are balanced by width, so the Oxley Fedora is ideal. Round faces suit a higher crown and narrower brim, so choose the Suffolk or Chelsworth Fedoras. If you wear glasses, choose a brim that won’t sit low on your forehead.
Don’t overthink it – Once you start wearing your hat regularly, you’ll realise how good it feels. So don’t hold off for an occasion –instead, wear it on your morning walk, to the office, shopping… as well as for special outings.
CARE TIPS
Consider the weather – Our wool felt hats are water-resistant (top up with our Protector Spray), so will be fine in light showers. If your hat gets wet, shake it off and dry it indoors. For lighter-coloured hats with headbands, keep out of the rain, as the dye from the band can stain.
Keep your hat clean – Use a lint roller to remove dust or dirt. For stains, try a hat brush or damp cloth, but let mud dry first.
Store your hat securely – Lay it flat with no weight on top. Keep away from direct sunlight. Our hat boxes are ideal (page 34).
SIZING TIPS
Measure up – Place a measuring tape around your head just above your ear, across the midforehead. Measure exactly where the hat will sit, not too tightly. If you fall between sizes, we recommend choosing the next size up. Or add hat re-sizers to your purchase for £2.50.

SUSTAINABILITY ACTION
We're contantly striving to be more sustainable and have been working with environmental organisation Ecologi to reduce our carbon footprint and help fund new climate projects.
As part of the Hicks & Brown pledge to Ecologi, we’ve planted more than 2,000 trees, which equates to offsetting more than 125 tonnes of carbon emissions so far.
We're also helping to protect pollinators. In the past 10 years, Britain has lost a third of its bee population. Without bees, it would cost farmers £1.8 billion per year to pollinate artificially. So, for World Bee Day in May, we teamed up with Buckley’s Bees in Cheshire and are sponsoring a colony of their bees.
