ESDS Update
THE EqUIpMENT SAFETy DATA SHEET (ESDS) INITIATIVE kEEpS ON ROLLING ON
the range of ESdS’s, covering an expanding array of equipment, have been developed to address hIanZ member’s obligations to provide sufficient health & safety information as required by law.
SPEcIfIcaLLY, the ESDS’s help address Distributors of equipment to HIANZ Members obligations under section 42 of the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015 to supply “adequate information concerning…any conditions necessary to ensure that the…plant, substance or structure when used for a purpose for which it was designed or manufactured…” HIANZ recommends that any supplying or hiring equipment be provided with the relevant ESDS, as well as supporting important information such as the owner’s manual or other H&S documents. The HIANZ team have added a new ESDS for Petrol- or Diesel-driven generators, and an ESDS for the 2.5-3.5MT heavy trailers fitted with the ‘break-away braking’ system, typically used for transporting 2 – 2.5MT excavators and other heavy equipment. In addition, there have been a couple of updated sheets issued. Please check the list and ensure you have the current issue available for your customers and that any superseded sheets have been removed from circulation. Our website General Hire ESDS Forms – Hire Industry
Association of New Zealand (https://www.hianz.net.nz)
is the best place to keep up to date on our latest sheets.
aS thE magaZInE was about to go to print, information was with the graphic designer for three further product categories: Lighting Towers, Diesel & LPG Fan drive Heaters and LPG static Heaters. These should be available on the HIANZ website by early July. To make important Health & Safety information readily available to customer a few hire companies are displaying links on a dedicated H&S page, with QR codes on equipment instantly linking customer to the hire companies’ website and any other necessary information. HIANZ is also looking at the possibility of providing direct links to ESDSs saved on a central HIANZ website, ideally with the potential to verify if and when a customer has accessed the information.
