ALUMNI Whitaker Gannon '15 Whitaker Gannon (she/her) is a proud Theatre Director, Performer, Multi-media Artist, and Activist, whose love for the arts started during her time as a lifer at HHP, performing in several theatre productions and taking music and arts classes over the years. After graduating in 2015, she went to undergrad at Wake Forest University as a Presidential Scholar for Visual Arts for her photography (shout out to Mrs. Ram!) and majored in Communications with a concentration in Film/Media Studies. Whitaker continued her acting career at Wake, performing in productions of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, A Bright Room Called Day, Spring Awakening, and Caucasian Chalk Circle. Additionally, Whitaker discovered a love of directing, and subsequently directed several works including Us/Them, In on It, and Laughtracks (an annual sketch comedy production).

After graduating from WFU, Whitaker came back to HHI and became the Resident Assistant Director at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, where she was AD for several productions (Legally Blonde, Murder on the Orient Express, Kiss Me, Kate, and Neil Simon’s Rumors). During the COVID shutdown, Whitaker got the opportunity to be the director, cinematographer, and video editor for a streamed production of the play ChipandGus. After its success, she was asked to direct her first professional production, RED, in April 2021, and most recently directed The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, both on the Arts Center Stage. Outside of her theatrical pursuits, Whitaker has held leadership positions on various committees both at WFU and in the community, gave a TEDx talk about neurodiversity and autism acceptance, was a speaker at the Stories of Dreams and Social Justice: Women & Gender Studies Symposium, and helped found the inaugural Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion round table at the Arts Center.

ALUMNI GIVING WEEK

THE POWER OF

YOUR PARTICIPATION

RECAP

Giving back to Prep is a critical part of alumni engagement. Alumni support is a way of saying "thank you" while helping future generations gain access to the same opportunities. The Hilton Head Prep Alumni Association held this year's Alumni Giving Week March 21-25, 2022. During the week we held challenges, a donor match, and even a few giveaways! Our Prep Pride Fund alumni participation goal for the year is 150 alumni donors. During the week we reached 125 alumni donors with almost 90 days in the campaign to hit and hopefully exceed our goal! Your gifts to the Prep Pride Fund ensure that Prep continues to be a community of talented and dedicated faculty, staff, and coaches working tirelessly to deliver Prep students a life-changing, first-rate education that will prepare them for the world beyond Prep. When you give it is your way of saying your Prep experience was meaningful, and a higher participation rate makes Prep more appealing to prospective students and grant-awarding foundations.

EVERY GIFT MATTERS! Be a part of the Prep legacy and help us reach our goal of 150 alumni donors. Gifts of ALL SIZE ADD UP to make a big difference! It's the Power of Participation! Click or scan the QR code to make your gift today! April 2022 - Issue 10

ALUMNI GUEST SPEAKERS One of the ways that alumni give back is by volunteering their time and expertise with current Prep students. Throughout the year we welcome alumni back to campus to talk about their various careers and give the students insights on college and the career world.

Prep Lifer, Whitaker Gannon '15, was the guest speaker at our March Lunch and Learn on Thursday, March 24th to speak with a group of our upper school students about theatre and the arts. She gave the students great advice on life during college, the study abroad experience, the experience that let to her deciding her career path, and the lessons she's learned as a young director The students asked a multitude of questions about Whitaker's journey since her days at Wake Forest. Junior Trey Middleton says "using your resources and taking advantage of the opportunities given to you" was one of his takeways from the Lunch and Learn.

If you are interested in participating in a monthly Lunch and Learn, Alumni Connections (our annual alumni career day), or networking and sharing insights with our upper school students please reach out to Leslie Hart, Director of Alumni Relations, at lhart@hhprep.org.
