HGVT Explains the Process in Obtaining a Driver’s licence

All new drivers seeking to get their first category C or Category D licence must complete a training program that includes initial CPC training. A commercial driving licence cannot be obtained without completing this initial qualification. The training is usually done and completed for most of their students in weeks. However, the law states that drivers who want to get a licence can do so within 2 years. Anyone who fails to pass the training and qualification within that time will have to start all over again. The Different licence categories in HGVT

The four main licences that HGVT offers in their training are as follows: category C which are for vehicles more than 7500kg with trailers up to 750 kilograms, category C +E are those vehicles more than 7500kg with trailers over 750kg, category C1 are for vehicles between 3500kg and 7500kg with trailers up to 750kg while the last category is C1 + E which are vehicles between 3500kg and 7500kg with trailers over 750kg.

An HGVT spokesman commented on the training program, saying, “We prepare students to take their practical skills tests at a designated testing facility. We do not conduct this test as we are not licenced to do that, but we send a trainer to the testing site on the examination day. This method will allow students to ask questions and receive any other help they might need before taking the test”.

“Details of Driver’s Medicals” The HGV medical test is made up of two parts which are the interview and physical examination. During the interview, the candidate and the doctor talk about any existing medical conditions that may intrude with safe driving. Candidates are expected to be straightforward during this discussion as any discrepancies in what they say could lead to severe consequences if found out. The physical examination takes around 30 minutes to complete, and the doctor checks for candidates’ vital signs, vision, etc.

An HGVT spokesman said, “We have made provision for drivers whose driving privileges were suspended due to failed HGV medicals. Some of these processes take months to complete. This long period is not intended to punish the driver in question but to ensure that his safety and other road users are preserved”.

This certification is needed for almost all professional drivers holding category C & D licences.
