TARA COMMUNITY NEWS

MESSAGE FROM PHILLIP PARSH, PRESIDENT

Summer has arrived and the long-awaited rains are just around the corner. It has been a very dry winter, and the much-needed rain is welcome.

The Long-Range Planning annual survey results have been summarized and can be seen by clicking HERE . The information compiled in this survey will help the Board of Directors make important decisions to ensure the future of the Tara community.

The trial summer golf memberships have been implemented and as of May 19th we have sold 28 memberships. The Board of Directors along with management will be monitoring this program to see what effect it may have on our owners.

The vacant lot pickleball project is coming along and completion is anticipated to be around the 1st of October. The clubhouse, fitness center, pro shop and cart barn roofs are being replaced and should be completed by the end of July. The warranty for the new roofs will be 40 years. The much-anticipated clubhouse refresh project is still in its early stages, and the scope of the project is being narrowed down, a contractor should be selected by the end of June. Please stay tuned for periodic updates.

In the April Board meeting all nine committees were put in place. Thanks to all the volunteers for their time, I am looking forward to another funfilled successful year.

I would like to thank everyone for their continued support.

TARA’S MISSION: The mission of Tara Golf & Country Club is to provide an exceptional private country club experience while maintaining the club’s reputation as a financially sound and highly valued community where Members enjoy outstanding golf, vibrant amenities and social camaraderie.

MESSAGE FROM DAVID TAYLOR,

Dear Members,

As we turn the page from a wonderful season into the sunny days of summer, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our members for making this past season so memorable. Your energy, participation, and continued support are what make Tara such a special place to call home.

We are especially excited to welcome 28 new Summer Members to our community! Please join us in giving them a warm Tara welcome as they enjoy everything our Club has to offer in the coming months.

On the facilities front, we are continuing steady progress on our roof replacement project across the clubhouse, cart barn, golf shop, and fitness center, with completion anticipated in July. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we bring these essential improvements to life.

Many of you have also expressed great enthusiasm for the Clubhouse Refresh —and we share that excitement. We are currently deep in the design phase , working closely with our architectural and construction partners to ensure we deliver a beautiful, functional, and lasting upgrade. While we are not yet at the construction stage, we are on track and hope to share renderings and initial drawings with the membership very soon.

We understand there have been questions and rumors about the timeline— so let us be clear: as of today, we are moving forward as planned. As always, we will communicate any updates as they happen and continue to prioritize transparency every step of the way.

Lastly, mark your calendars and make plans to join us for a fun-filled Fourth of July weekend celebration! We’re planning a lineup of patriotic festivities, great food, and the kind of camaraderie that makes summer at Tara truly unforgettable.

Thank you again for being part of what makes this club so exceptional. Here’s to a great summer ahead!

Respectfully,

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS:

**LIGHTNING ALARM INFORMATION**

We would like to share important safety procedures regarding lightning alerts at the Tara complex.

When you hear a continuous solid tone, it means that lightning has struck within 5 miles of the complex. This alert is in place to ensure your safety, as well as that of our pool, tennis, and bocce players. In this case, please move to the nearest shelter if you are outside, or go indoors. After the alarm changes to an intermittent tone, it will be safe for you to return to your outdoor activities.

These safety measures are designed to protect everyone, and we greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation when the lightning alarm is activated. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe environment for all!

TARA COURSE HAPPENINGS

MESSAGE FROM DON ABELL, COURSE

941.751.5593 | dabell@taragcc.com

Aerification is a mechanical process which causes a short term disruption, but has long term benefits for turfgrass on the golf course. Aerification relieves soil compaction, removes thatch and creates pore space for air to get to the root zone. In fact, the condition of a green has a lot to do with what goes on below the surface. In order for grass to grow at a 1/8 inch, it must have deep healthy roots. Good roots demand oxygen. In good soil, roots get the oxygen from tiny pockets of air trapped between soil and sand particles. Overtime, the traffic from golfers and regular maintenance tends to compact the soil under the putting green. When this soil becomes compacted, the air pockets are severely reduced which in turn keeps the roots from growing. Without oxygen, the grass plants become weaker and will be unable to survive.

Remember, aerification is one of the most important cultural practices that we do to the golf course to relieve compaction. This process will help keep the golf course in the best possible condition throughout the year. The following is the aerification schedule for the summer of 2025.

• May 12th – May 14th | First aerification, Chipco Choice

• July 7th – July 13th | Second aerification, Fairway Verticut

• September 8th – 10th | Final aerification

Hello Tara Members,

My name is Olivia Baldassari, and I’m so excited to be joining Tara Golf & Country Club as your new Lifestyle Director! Thank you all for the incredibly warm welcome—I already feel part of the community and I’m really looking forward to getting to know more of you.

In this role, I’ll be overseeing our social calendar, fitness & recreation, all onsite events, and assisting with marketing initiatives to help keep everyone informed and engaged with everything happening around the Club.

To share a little about myself: I’m originally from Maryland, but I’ve been lucky to call Sarasota home for the past six years. I fell in love with the area the moment I arrived. Golf has always been a part of my life—I’ve been playing since I could walk—and I’m thrilled to be working in a place where the game is such a central part of the community.

Professionally, I’ve worked in marketing for nearly seven years, and I’m passionate about bringing people together and creating memorable experiences.

I can’t wait for all that’s ahead and am excited to start this journey with you!

TARA MASTER COMMUNICATION

MESSAGE FROM KIM LOSKOTA, PRESIDENT

Dear Tara Residents,

We have great news related to the continuing apartment complex project at Stone River Road and Tara Boulevard. The Manatee County Board of County Commissioners voted 5-2 against the second request to rezone the property to multi-use (PDMU). The Community Affairs committee was diligent in their work and was successful in scheduling over 50 residents to attend the meeting, all wearing red shirts to show their negative view of the rezoning.

The owner of the property has until July 7th to appeal the decision, so we still have to watch the progress on this property.

A big thank you is owed to the committee!

Just a reminder that hurricane season begins June 1st, so please stay diligent and prepared for changes in our weather. A hurricane preparedness plan will be sent to all homeowners shortly to assist you in being prepared for upcoming storms.

Sincerely,

TARA MASTER COMMUNICATION

MESSAGE FROM DENISE SMARK

Tara Residents,

In April I was assigned as the TMA Board liaison to the TMA Landscape Committee – a committee I previously served on as a member. As many landscape changes will occur in 2025 around our perimeter, I plan to provide regular updates to keep our members informed on the landscape improvements in the works this year.

As you may already know, we changed landscape contractors on April 1st. The Landscape Committee believes our new vendor, GreenTech, will provide enhanced services over our previous vendor, and you will start to see changes in the Boulevard as well as around the TGCC perimeter over the next few months.

The first activity GreenTech focused on was our aging irrigation system that did not meet all our watering needs. They spent April evaluating, redirecting & repairing our irrigation system and by the end of this month the system will be in much better working condition. Unfortunately, because the system was compromised, quite a few of our median plantings suffered. These plants will be replaced over the summer during the rainy season to help them get established.

In April we worked with the TGCC Greens Committee, Don Abell and GreenTech to improve the appearance of the landscape at the corner of Tara Boulevard and Tara Preserve Lane. The line of sight has been improved, the invasive vines and Brazilian Pepper trees were removed, the white, split rail fence was repaired from the hurricane damage and extended to better define TGCC & TMA property lines, the cleared area was sodded, and new irrigation lines were installed. This cleared corner would be a great location for a new “Tara Golf and Country Club” monument! If you haven’t seen this updated corner in a while, please go by and see what you think. Continuing down Tara Preserve Lane the growth was trimmed back to the fence line and several trees were trimmed back giving a neater, cleaner look. The trees hanging over the sidewalk are the responsibility of the county to maintain a proper clearance and we have requested a county work order for this work to be done.

In May GreenTech began fertilizing and trimming the grass, plants & hedges and removing moss from the viburnum. We should start to see changes in the hedges on Tara Boulevard by Q3 and we appreciate your patience in allowing the new contractor to make a difference.

In June we have contracted with Brown’s Tree Service to have the Live Oak trees along Tara Boulevard trimmed. The canopy will be raised as many of the trees are beginning to grow over Ashley Oaks and Melrose Place villas. Please keep an eye out for the trucks when you walk or drive down the Boulevard when this work is being done.

All this work would not have been completed without the hard work of your TMA Landscape Committee: Karen Cardozo, Deb King, Chris Hoskinson and Marian Murdoch. If you are interested in joining this fantastic team, please give me a call to discuss as we are always looking for interested members.

Best Regards,

Denise Smark

DID YOU KNOW? FROM THE COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

Did you know that Tara has a Care & Share Program?

This program can provide you with essential equipment you sometimes need for a limited time that you, unfortunately, don’t have. Rather than run out and buy it, you can borrow it from another Tara resident that just so happens to have that something you need in storage. This could be medical equipment like crutches, a wheelchair, a walker or shower chair you need because someone is recovering from an injury. Or maybe you need a child related necessary item like a stroller, high chair or a pack and play because your friends or family from up north are visiting you for a few days and bringing their little one.

Any Tara Member can participate in this program. If you have something you can lend that you think would be helpful to someone else, just notify the Administration Office at 941-756-7775 ext.1229 and tell them what equipment you have that you are willing to share. Tara Members, when they need that special something you are kind enough to lend, will then contact you directly to arrange for pick up and return.

The more residents get involved in the Care & Share Program, the more equipment we’ll have to lend and the more we can all benefit from this unique Tara program. Check it out on the website under Member Center to see what items are currently available to borrow: https://members.taragcc.com/group/pages/care-share-program

Did you know that Tara has a Hole-n-One Club? Don’t lose out on a pocket full of SWEEPS for golf shop purchases!

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS AND HOW TO JOIN:

Contact Jill at jorologio@taragcc.com or see her in the Administration Office to let her know you want to join in on the fun! That’s all it takes and you’re now a member of the club.

HERE HOW IT WORKS:

1. Each time a Member of the club gets a Hole-n-One he or she is declared a WINNER and ALL Hole-n-One Club Members will be charged 4.50 to their Member account.

2. Members of this exclusive club then have one week from the day of publicly posting the winner’s name in the Grill Room to redeem a beverage of choice.

3. The number of club Members who do not redeem their beverage from the Grill Room within the designated week get tallied up.

4. We then multiply the $4.50 by the number of those who did NOT indulge in a beverage from the Grill Room.

5. That cash balance is then awarded to the WINNER’S ACCOUNT in forms of SWEEPS for purchases in the golf shop.

Winnings have been anywhere between $400- $850+ in SWEEPS (not redeemable for cash).

Don’t Miss Out – Join Now!

Did you know that Tara is now serving cocktails at the snack bar in addition to cans of beer?

From 9 am to 4pm, you can now sip a tasty daiquiri in three delicious flavors: Strawberry, Pina Colada and Tara Tropical. Or, if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, you can also order well vodka, gin or rum mixed drinks with coke, sprite, ginger ale, tea, lemonade or four different juices. Upgrades to premium liquor are also available.

So, when you sit by the pool relaxing or socializing with friends, or you just had a workout with water aerobics or volleyball, order a refreshing daiquiri and sip away. Or the next time you turn towards the back nine, and you feel that you need a little something to help your swing, stop at the snack bar and order your favorite drink to take along. Here’s to you!

HOUSE COMMITTEE - FROM OUR HOUSE TO YOURS

Dear Tara Members,

The House Committee is busy working on the Refresh project with David Taylor leading us through conversations with our architect and designer. Please continue to watch your email as David will be providing updates as we move forward to start the project within the next several months as our members have voted and continue to ask when we will start, soon. Watch for notices for upcoming Town Hall Updates on Zoom and in person.

We continue to provide our members with various dining events such as Wednesday burger night and Friday dining for 2 specials. Make sure you stop up on Sunday if you want to eat the lite fair breakfast menu at the bar. In addition, on Tuesday you can order off the regular menu in the grill room if you are not participating in any of the game events. Congrats to Morgan on her promotion to Asst. GM and in June Tara will welcome our new Food & Beverage Manager. We hope everyone is enjoying the weather as Summer is here and make sure you enjoy the club or the pool and get a cocktail at both places.

See you at the Club,

Sincerely,

SOCIAL COMMITTEE

MESSAGE FROM JODI SCHLETER

Hello Tara Golf & Country Club neighbors,

I’m excited to introduce myself as the new Chair of the Social Committee! My husband Robert and I moved here from Texas this past December, and we’ve absolutely fallen in love—with the golf course, the people, and the spirit that makes this community so special.

Robert is now enjoying retirement, and I’m finishing the final chapter of my career as the Director of Lifelong Learning at the State College of Florida. I’ve always been passionate about creating meaningful experiences and bringing people together—and I’m thrilled to bring that same energy into this role.

As Chair, my goal is to build on the strong foundation set by Emily Acklin and past committee members, while exploring fresh ways to connect and celebrate life at Tara. I believe in transparency, teamwork, and making space for everyone’s ideas. Together, we’ll create a season filled with fun, friendship, and lasting memories.
