Christmas In July for Jack’s Kids PATRIOTS SWIM TEAM RECAP Another Successful Season for the Patriots Swim Team
Cl u b N ew s
MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER, JIM COFFEY
As I sit down to write my first article for the RVCC’s quarterly Scorecard newsletter, I can’t help but reflect on what an incredible privilege it is to become part of a Club with such a remarkable history. During my f irst several weeks at Raritan Valley, I’ve made it a priority to spend as much time as possible walking the property, meeting Members and Team Members, asking questions, and learning what makes this Club so special. One question kept coming to mind: Why is our dining room named the Harding Room? And why does a portrait of President Warren G. Harding hang in the Players Pub? The answer, as I quickly learned, is one of the most remarkable chapters in our Club’s history. In July 1921, while enjoying a round of golf at Raritan Valley Country Club, President Harding was summoned f rom the course to sign the Knox-Porter Resolution, formally ending the United States’ involvement in World War I. After fulf illing one of the most signif icant responsibilities of his presidency, he returned to f inish his round here at Raritan Valley. Whether you’ve heard that story many times or are learning it for the f irst time, it serves as a powerful reminder that Raritan Valley Country Club has always been more than a place to play golf. It is a place where lifelong f riendships are formed, families create traditions, and history itself has unfolded. That history is something I deeply respect. Since arriving, I’ve been welcomed by an outstanding Membership, a supportive Board of Governors, and an exceptional team that genuinely cares about this Club. My f irst weeks have been spent listening far more than talking—learning your traditions, understanding the culture, and gaining an appreciation for what has made Raritan Valley such a special place for generations. Throughout my career, I’ve believed that while beautiful facilities and a great golf course may attract people, it is the people who def ine a Club. My commitment is to honor the traditions that have shaped Raritan Valley while continually enhancing the member experience through exceptional service, strong leadership, thoughtful f inancial stewardship, and a culture that supports both our Members and our employees. The f inest Clubs don’t stand still, nor do they lose sight of who they are. They evolve thoughtfully, respecting their history while embracing opportunities that strengthen their future. That is the balance we will strive to achieve every day. We won’t pursue change simply for the sake of change, but we will continually seek ways to improve, invest wisely, and ensure that Raritan Valley remains one of the premier private Clubs in our region for generations to come. It is truly an honor to serve as your General Manager. My family and I are sincerely grateful for the warm welcome we’ve received, and I look forward to meeting many more of you in the months ahead, hearing your ideas, and working together to write the next great chapter in the history of Raritan Valley Country Club.
Respectfully, Jim Coffey, CCM General Manager/Chief Operating Off icer

FROM PROPERTY ACCOUNTANT, ANDREA PAGANO
As your Property Accountant, I would like to share a few important reminders regarding billing procedures, Guest pass benef its, and Membership perks. Taking a moment to review these details will help ensure your Member benef its are applied correctly and your account remains in good standing throughout the year. RVCC Golf Guest Passes To help ensure proper billing when bringing a Guest to play golf, please remember to check in with the Golf Shop and let our Team know if you would like to use a Guest pass. Annual Membership Fee Guest Passes Members who elect to pay their annual Membership fees in full receive complimentary Guest passes as part of their Membership benef its: • Social Members: 3 Guest Passes
• Golf Members: 6 Guest Passes
Please note that these are not physical passes. Each March, a list of eligible Members is provided to the Golf Shop, where Guest pass usage is tracked manually. For that reason, it is important to notify Golf Shop staff on the day of play if you wish to redeem a Guest pass. These passes cover both greens fees and cart fees and expire at the end of the calendar year. New Member Perks Pack New Members receive a New Member Perks Pack upon joining the Club. Please keep the following in mind: • Coupons issued prior to 2026 do not have an expiration date. • Coupons issued in 2026 and beyond will include an expiration date printed on the coupon. To receive the appropriate credit, coupons must be presented at the time they are used. If you are scheduling a golf or tennis lesson and plan to redeem a Perks Pack coupon, please notify our professional staff in advance. Monthly Billing Statements Monthly statement balances are due by the last day of the month following the statement date. If payment is not received by the due date, late fees and interest will be assessed. For your convenience, Members may make payments through the Club website or mobile app using: • Credit card
• ACH/checking account payment
Please note that credit card payments are subject to a 3% processing fee per transaction. Payments may also be made by personal or business check. As a reminder, Club Bylaws do not permit cash payments, including money orders. Contact Information Updates If you have changes to your mailing address, email address, or telephone number, please contact the Club off ice directly rather than updating your information through the website. This helps ensure your information is properly updated in our billing software and that you continue to receive important Club communications and billing statements without interruption. Statement Email Reminder When you receive your monthly billing statement by email, please do not reply directly to the message. Statements are generated through an automated system, and replies are sent to an unmonitored inbox. If you have questions regarding your statement or account, please contact me directly. Questions? If you have any billing questions or concerns, please feel f ree to reach out to me by email at apagano@rvcc1911. org or by phone at (908) 722-2000 ext. 203. Thank you for your attention to these reminders and for your continued support of RVCC. I appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain accurate records and ensure that all Members receive the full benef it of their Membership privileges.

FROM MEMBERSHIP & CLUB COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR, JENNIFER PANAIA
Membership Matters: Growing Our RVCC Family Together As we continue to build upon the strong traditions and vibrant community that make Raritan Valley Country Club so special, I would like to thank our members for your ongoing support and enthusiasm. One of the greatest compliments you can give the Club is introducing your f riends, family Members, neighbors, and business associates to RVCC. Our Members are truly our best ambassadors. No advertisement or marketing campaign can match the impact of a personal recommendation f rom someone who genuinely enjoys the Club experience. Whether it’s a round of golf, an exceptional dining experience, family activities, social events, or simply the f riendships formed here, your stories help prospective members understand what makes RVCC such a unique place to belong. To encourage Member referrals, we are proud to offer our Club Bucks Member Referral Program. When you refer a new Member who joins the Club, you’ll receive Club Bucks that can be used throughout the Club. It’s our way of thanking you for helping strengthen our Membership and introducing others to everything RVCC has to offer. If you know someone who would enjoy becoming part of our community, I encourage you to contact me so we can discuss Membership opportunities and arrange a visit. This fall, we’re excited to introduce a new and enhanced way to welcome our newest Members through monthly New Member Mingle events. Replacing our previous bi-annual format, these gatherings will provide more f requent opportunities for new members to meet fellow Members, build relationships, and become engaged in Club life sooner after joining. By hosting these events on a monthly basis, we’re creating additional touchpoints throughout the year to help foster connections and ensure every new member feels welcomed into the RVCC community. Further details, including dates and event formats, will be announced in the coming weeks, and we look forward to seeing both new and existing Members participate. Speaking of new Members, be sure to check out the New Member Spotlight on Page 8 of this newsletter, featuring all of our new Members who have joined our community in 2026. To help you get better acquainted, member biographies are available on the Member Website. I encourage you to take a few moments to learn more about these individuals and families and help us extend a warm RVCC welcome. Introduce yourself when you see them around the Club, invite them to join you for a round of golf, meet for dinner, or attend one of our many Club events. These small gestures can make a lasting impression and help foster the welcoming atmosphere that def ines Raritan Valley Country Club. Thank you for helping us grow and strengthen our RVCC community. If you have questions about Membership or would like to refer a prospective Member, please contact me at (908) 722-2000, ext. 207 or jpanaia@rvcc1911.org. I’m always happy to help! MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR CLUB EXPERIENCE
At Raritan Valley Country Club, we are committed to providing an exceptional dining and social experience for our Members and Guests. One of the simplest ways you can help us deliver the highest level of service is by making dining reservations and registering for Club events in advance whenever possible. Dining reservations allow our Culinary and Service Teams to prepare appropriately, schedule staff ing levels effectively, and ensure your table is ready upon arrival. While we will always do our best to accommodate walk-in diners, advance reservations help minimize wait times, maintain menu availability, reduce food waste, and support the exceptional hospitality our Members expect. Registration is required for all Club-sponsored social events. To ensure fairness for all Members, registration requests will not be accepted by phone until online registration has off icially opened. When registering, please ref rain f rom including other Members on your reservation. Instead, simply note any seating requests so we may accommodate groups whenever possible. If your plans change and you are unable to attend an event, or if the number attending has changed, please update your registration online or notify the Club as soon as possible. Please remember that cancellations made within 48 hours of an event are subject to a 50% cancellation fee. For wine dinners, the cancellation period is seven days. FROM EXECUTIVE CHEF, FILOMENA LOMBARDI
CHEF FILOMENA’S VEAL OSSO BUCO As the weather begins to cool and comforting seasonal flavors take center stage, we’re pleased to share Chef Filomena’s take on a classic Italian favorite, Veal Osso Buco. This traditional fall dish features tender veal shanks slowly braised with vegetables, wine, tomatoes, and f resh herbs, creating a rich and flavorful meal that’s perfect for gathering around the table with family and f riends.
Ingredients •
4 veal shanks (approximately 12 ounces each)
•
Salt and f reshly ground black pepper, to taste
•
1 cup olive oil
•
1 cup all-purpose flour
•
2 carrots, diced
•
2 celery stalks, diced
•
1 yellow onion, diced
•
3 garlic cloves, minced
•
1 cup red wine
•
2 cups chicken stock
•
2 cups beef stock
•
3 cups canned plum tomatoes, drained
•
2 sprigs f resh thyme
•
2 sprigs f resh rosemary
Directions 1.
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2. Season the veal shanks generously with salt and pepper on both sides. 3. Heat the olive oil in a large oven-safe casserole or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. 4. Lightly dredge the veal shanks in flour, shaking off any excess. Brown for about 5 minutes per side until nicely caramelized. Remove and set aside. 5. Add the carrots, celery, onion, and garlic to the pan and cook over medium heat for approximately 10 minutes, until softened. 6. Pour in the red wine and allow it to reduce by half. 7. Add the chicken stock, beef stock, tomatoes, thyme, and rosemary. Stir well and bring to a simmer. 8. Return the veal shanks to the casserole and bring the liquid to a gentle boil. 9. Cover and transfer to the oven. Bake for approximately 2½ hours, or until the veal is exceptionally tender and falling off the bone. 10. Remove the herb sprigs and serve with your favorite risotto, polenta, or mashed potatoes.
Chef Filomena’s Veal Osso Buco is the perfect example of Italian comfort food at its f inest. Rich, hearty, and full of traditional flavors, this classic autumn dish is sure to become a seasonal favorite in your home. Buon Appetito!

GOLF TIP: START THE DOWNSWING FROM THE GROUND UP One of Ben Hogan’s most important swing fundamentals was the idea that the downswing should start f rom the ground up. Rather than throwing the Club at the ball with your hands and arms, allow your lower body to lead the motion. When the legs and hips initiate the downswing, the upper body, arms, and Club naturally follow. This proper sequence helps generate more power, improve balance, and create more consistent contact. Why It Works: • More Power: Energy is transferred f rom the ground through your body and into the Club. • Better Timing: The swing unfolds in the proper sequence. • Greater Consistency: The Club approaches impact on a more repeatable path. Visualizing the Sequence What This Illustration Shows The downswing begins with a subtle shift and rotation of the hips and lower body toward the target. The curved arrow highlights how the hips initiate the movement, leading the swing and pulling the rest of the body into sequence. As the hips turn, the torso follows, then the arms and hands, and f inally the Club accelerates through impact. The orange band illustrates the connection between the lower and upper body, showing how proper hip rotation naturally moves the arms and hands into position without forcing the motion. By allowing the hips to lead, the hands remain back momentarily, creating what golfers refer to as “lag.” This stored energy is released just before impact, producing greater Clubhead speed, added power, and more consistent ball striking. Think of it as a chain reaction, with each segment building speed and energy for the next.
Practice Tip A simple way to develop this feeling is to make practice swings focusing on moving your hips toward the target before your arms start down. Start slowly and prioritize rhythm over speed. Remember: Good golfers don’t swing f rom the top down. They swing f rom the ground up. That simple concept can help you hit the ball farther, more solidly, and more consistently.
Quick Reminders for Play • Pace of Play: Please keep up with the group directly in f ront of you. • Course Care: Be sure to repair divots, f ix ball marks on the greens, and rake bunkers after use. • Cart Policy: Obey all cart path-only signs on all par 3s and keep carts away f rom greens and tees. Golf Shop Merchandise Updates Our retro logo items—including hats, headcovers, T-shirts, and belts—have been a huge hit, while Peter Millar and Holderness & Bourne continue to lead the way in apparel. New fall apparel for both men and women will be arriving periodically throughout the season. PAST CHAMPIONS GATHER FOR ANNUAL RVCC CHAMPIONS DINNER
Continuing a tradition inspired by one of golf ’s most celebrated customs, Raritan Valley Country Club hosted its annual Past Champions Dinner on Friday, August 21, bringing together an exclusive group of the Club’s living championship winners for an evening of camaraderie, memories, and celebration. The event traces its roots to 2022, when RVCC inaugurated the Past Champions Dinner, modeled after the famed Masters Champions Dinner held each year at Augusta National Golf Club. Widely regarded as one of golf ’s most prestigious traditions, the Masters Champions Dinner is reserved exclusively for living Masters champions and the chairman of Augusta National, with past winners gathering in their Green Jackets to celebrate the history and heritage of the game. RVCC’s version honors the Club’s own championship legacy. Each year, only living past Men’s and Ladies Club Champions are invited to attend, creating a unique opportunity for generations of champions to reconnect and share stories f rom their competitive careers. In the inaugural year, seven-time Club Champion Robert Hunt was selected to choose the evening’s menu, establishing another tradition that continues today. Since then, the honor of selecting the dinner menu has been passed to the reigning Club Champion, allowing each year’s winner to add a personal touch to the event. This year’s menu was selected by 2025 Club Champion Jason Bataille, who welcomed a distinguished group of past champions for the evening. Joining Bataille were Ted Pentz, Gary Sedlazek, Roc Dameo, Doris Bennett, Ken Keneally, Rick Collins, Mike Moore, Cathy Kitchen, Kevin Russell, Tim Foley, Bob Hunt, Dan Psinakis, and John Tomassetti. In total, 14 champions were in attendance. As the dinner continues to grow, the event has become a cherished part of RVCC’s competitive tradition, celebrating not only championship accomplishments but also the f riendships, sportsmanship, and shared history that def ine the Club. By honoring its past champions in a setting inspired by golf ’s most iconic traditions, RVCC continues to strengthen the connection between generations of Members and preserve the rich legacy of Club championship golf.

FROM GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT, JIM RUSNIC
Our summer began warm, dry and windy with very little rain, in fact no rain for an extended period through June. While these conditions seem less than desirable, they are preferred for us here at RVCC. The absence of rainfall allows our team to control the soil moisture and irrigate only as much as weed need for optimum course conditions. We spend most of our off-season planning and preparing for the heat and rain of summer, a combination which can be disastrous for turf. One example of our efforts to manage rainfall was the SandMaster process we executed on hole eight fairway in early June. The SandMaster machine cuts a series of channels into the ground, ten inches deep and one inch wide, simultaneously f illing the same channel with dry sand. The purpose is to catch the surface water resting stagnantly on our turf, above hardpacked clay. The sand channels allow the water a place to run to, and flow away f rom the surface and ultimately off/out of eight fairway. New for our agronomy team in 2026 has been the introduction of the USGA performance measuring tools and data sharing Deacon platform. The tools include the GS3 Ball, drop meter and moisture meter. The GS3 Ball is golf ball f illed with several hundred sensors to measure green speed, trueness and smoothness, as it travels across the surface. The drop meter drops the GS3 ball f rom a f ixed position and measures the impact, as it hits the surface. The moisture meter reads the soil moisture content in under the surface at a depth of one inch. The Deacon platform collects the data f rom the measurements taken on the greens and displays on a dashboard for our team to measure the impacts of our maintenance programs on how the greens perform.

Hole 8 fairway during SandMaster - early June 2026
We can integrate a variety of other factors such as weather, growing degree days and maintenance to track and compare the multitude of factors that affect playing performance. Once the summer heat settled in, our team spent our days and some nights managing water, mowing and f ine tuning the details of daily course and landscaping maintenance. Coming events for mid-September is aeration week. For this year’s aeration we will be implementing the process of Drill and Fill on the greens. The drill and f ill process drills one-inch holes into the greens 12-14 inches deep and simultaneously f ills the holes with dry sand. This process is more aggressive than our standard core aeration in that it allows water, air and roots to penetrate further into the soil.

GAME, SET, MATCH: NEWS FROM THE COURTS Tennis Tip: An effective serve starts with a consistent serve toss. Many players release the ball too soon or let the ball roll off their f ingertips, leading to an inconsistent toss and a weak serve. When tossing the ball on the serve, keep the ball loosely in your hand and look to start releasing the ball just above eye level. A good serve toss has very little rotation to it. Less spin as the ball leaves your hand, more control on the toss. A little practice on the serve toss equals a more effective serve. As the racquet season heads toward the end of the summer season, there are plenty of tennis and pickleball activities to enjoy. Our 2026 Tennis Championships have semif inals and f inals to contend across all singles and doubles divisions. Registration is now underway for our 2026 Pickleball Championships to be held Saturday & Sunday, September 19 & 20. Our popular Sunday Pickleball Round Robin will continue through September as well. Monday, September 7, is our Labor Day Racquets Round Robin, and on Saturday, September 12, we will have our US Open Finals Viewing Party and Racquets Round Robin. There will be tennis and pickleball round robins, great food, and a viewing party for the Women’s Final. Tennis instruction will continue through September, with pickleball programs extended into October. Weekly tennis and pickleball clinics provide players of all levels with the opportunity to develop their skills and enjoy the game throughout the fall. This is an exciting time at racquets. We look forward to crowning champions for tennis and pickleball, as well as continuing our instructional and social offerings for all Members. We want to thank our Members for their support of our racquets program. If you have not had the chance to come down and jump on a court, we hope to see you soon.

Raritan Valley Country Club formed a new subcommittee, Raritan Valley Cares, in 2026 with the goal of bringing a charitable component to our Club community. The committee’s f irst event, Christmas in July, benef ited Jack’s Kids, a local charity that helps ease the f inancial burden for families caring for children with serious illnesses or disabilities. Christmas in July festivities kicked off with a golf cart decorating contest, won by Members Brooke and Scott Lieberman and Laura and Sameer Joglekar. Members then took to the course for a 9-hole scramble, with Rachel and Corey Wescoe and Dan and Aimee Psinakis taking home the win. Todd Stein won the pot of gold. Following golf, the celebration moved to the pool patio—festive with Christmas decor—where Members enjoyed a delicious BBQ and f rozen orange crushes as the evening’s specialty cocktail. The much-anticipated drawing for the Raritan Valley Member of the Year parking spot took place on the patio as well, with Todd Stein named the lucky winner. More important than what occurred on the course or by the pool, Christmas in July raised an incredible $4,095 for Jack’s Kids. Combining this with proceeds f rom The Greener charity golf tournament, Raritan Valley Cares is thrilled to present Jack’s Kids with a $9,000 check at its September meeting. Raritan Valley Cares looks forward to continuing to bring our Club community together while supporting organizations most meaningful to our Members. If you’re involved with a charity you’d like to nominate as the benef iciary of a future Raritan Valley Cares event, be on the lookout for a charity submission form in early January 2027.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SEASON WITH COACH COURTNEY DEROSA
The RVCC Patriots Swim Team had another successful season with Coach Courtney DeRosa at the helm and two assistant coaches, Haley Lamont and Merah DeRosa, helping out as well. The team was 39 swimmers strong, ranging in age f rom 5 to 18, and competed against seven teams within the NJSDC C League—not one meet rained out, much to the delight of all! RVCC was thrilled to host member-sponsored swimmers for the very f irst time this season, bringing new teammates onboard and gaining exposure for the Club as an added benef it. 10 swimmers qualif ied to participate in the NJSDC Conference Championships based on race times posted throughout the season: Leah Abd, Rebecca Clemente, Merah DeRosa, Avalon Green, Holston Green, Nate Lamont, Dean Marikakis, Anderson Ruhnke, Avery Stefani, and Bella Taber. Among those who participated, Leah Abd qualif ied for f inals and placed 1st in 50 fly, 2nd in 100 f ree, and 4th in 100 IM. Congratulations! The team enjoyed an end-of-season pool party during RVCC’s Junior Sports Awards celebration, featuring our annual dads vs. kids relay and special treats and entertainment for the kids. Thanks so much to Coach Courtney, the assistant coaches, and all of the parent volunteers for their help in making the 2026 Patriots Swim Team season another great one for all involved. Cheers!
