Donors like you have been helping families break the cycle of generational poverty through affordable homeownership since Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity’s inception in in 1985. Michael & Leah’s Story Having learned about Habitat for Humanity when they were invited to a home dedication for another family, Michael and Leah were excited to learn more about the program and started dreaming of their own Habitat home. After nearly two years of preparation, they were accepted into the homeownership program. Michael said, “It’s a dream we didn’t know we would realize. We joined Habitat, we put in our hours, we worked hard, and we’re glad this day has really come.” The family is eager for more space and room for their young children to run. Living in a second floor apartment, their downstairs neighbors would bang on the walls whenever their rambunctious sons would get too rowdy. Now, the boys will have a yard to play in and plenty of room indoors to explore. As for their daughter Natasha, she is thrilled to have her own room. “Now I can have a lot more sleepovers. But the best part of getting a new house is I’m getting a new dog,” she shared with a smile, acknowledging a promise from her parents.

volunteers Habitat volunteers contribute more than muscle. Creativity, strategy, and technical skills are among the many invaluable gifts volunteers bring to our organization – both on the build site and in our three retail stores. In addition to individual volunteers, Habitat also welcomes groups to the build site. Volunteer labor on the build site in particular controls the cost of building, which helps keep homeownership affordable for our partner families.

Women Build More than half the homes we build are for women heads of household. This amazing allfemale volunteer team raises funds and spends time on the build site.
Building on Faith Each year, churches from all over Pierce County are invited to come together for a season of building, putting faith into action, and using hammers as instruments of God’s love.
Team Habitat These exceptional corporate groups take team building to the next level, by working together on the build site to benefit the community.

Jessica & Welsin’s Story Jessica and Welsin moved to the Northwest from Hawaii in 2015, looking for a more affordable place to live. The family of six stayed with a cousin for a few weeks, until renting a two-bedroom apartment, from which they settled into Pierce County. But things were crowded, and the young family needed more space to grow and thrive. What most excites Jessica about Habitat for Humanity is the opportunity an affordable home provides her children, “To have something stable, that no matter what they can always come home; they never have to worry. “ More than anything, Jessica says their new home gives them hope. “My kids are going to see that since we own our own house, they should own their own house too. Hopefully it catches on and goes down the line, and each generation will know that owning their house is important - and possible.”

Through Habitat’s Global Village opportunities, volunteers from Pierce County are making a difference in small villages in far off places. looking ahead You brought so much joy this past year through your support of Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity. Your gifts have literally built dreams - helping struggling families find stability with an affordable mortgage. Looking to the future, there is much to be excited about as we plan continued growth and impact.
We continue to work in the Tillicum neighborhood of Lakewood, with 7 homes under construction at New Tillicum North and Tillicum Oaks.
Having just received donated property in Midland, we are eager to see a community grow with 11 homes planned for the Tyler Court development.
In recognition of our most generous friends, we are launching a new giving society called Builders Circle. With cumulative annual gifts totaling $1,000 or more, Builders Circle members are a powerful group of individual donors eager to change lives and transform their community.
