2026 Special Interest Holiday Collection

Leading the way since 1913

Britain’s only walking holiday co-operative

HF Holidays was founded in 1913 by Thomas Arthur Leonard OBE, a country pastor and social innovator known as the “Father of the Open-Air Movement”. In the late 19th century, he pioneered walking holidays for factory workers, establishing the Co-operative Holiday Association before creating HF Holidays. Inspired by his vision of togetherness in the outdoors, our mission is to create community, connection, and a true sense of belonging. Open to everyone, members and non-members alike, HF Holidays offers a warm welcome whether you travel solo, as a couple, with friends, family, or a club.

Making a bigger difference as a co-operative

As a co-operative, we are guided by our members. Their voice influences decisions on how surplus is reinvested into enriching future holidays, including our 16 characterful country houses. By becoming a member, you can 1) Save with exclusive member benefits and discounts, 2) Support the protection of much-loved footpaths, HF Country Houses and local communities, and 3) Connect with like-minded people on holiday, and online.

Become a member by purchasing a minimum of 100 x £1 shares. Membership not only offers great member benefits – including £30 off every holiday in the UK, £50 in Europe and £80 further worldwide – it also connects you with a community of like-minded people who share a passion for the great outdoors. Our Investment and Investment Plus membership categories also benefit from interest on their shares.

A different kind of HF Holiday

Go beyond walking

Not every HF Holiday involves pulling on walking boots. Alongside our famous walking breaks, we offer a wide collection of holidays shaped around shared interests and hobbies, many based indoors or involving alternative ways to travel. From learning a new skill to exploring a destination in depth, these holidays help curious minds and enthusiastic learners create lasting memories together, both indoors and out.

Special Interest holidays

Love trying something new, or want to build on an existing skill? Our Special Interest breaks immerse you in activities such as art, music, cookery, photography, dance, yoga, bridge, crafts, and more. Based mainly at our UK country houses, with some extending into Europe, they combine hands-on experiences with plenty of time to practise and connect with like-minded people.

Discover More Holidays & Discovery Tours

If sightseeing and culture are more your style, our Discovery Tours take you further afield. In Europe, they blend coach or rail travel with guided sightseeing visits that bring destinations to life. In the UK, our small-group Discover More Holidays (max. 15 guests) go off the beaten track by minibus, uncovering local gems like cheese-tasting in the Lake District, cider-making in Exmoor, or a heritage railway ride in Derbyshire.

16 UK country houses

Our country houses are designed to feel like your home away from home, with warm welcomes and relaxed, sociable spaces. Each house has its own unique charm, shaped by its history and location, but all offer cosy lounges, hearty meals, and comfortable guest rooms.

A choice of guest rooms

Each of our 16 UK country houses offer a choice of guest rooms with single, double or twin beds, all with en-suite bath or shower rooms. You may also enhance your stay by upgrading to our Premium and Superior rooms for a better view, more space or extra special details.

Let us help you find your perfect space — from single and family rooms to those with garden access or even dog-friendly options.

Some guests love choosing a particular room, for the view, a quiet spot in an annexe, or to be close to the dining room. Many return to the same room time and again, creating a familiar and comforting sense of place for only £30 per room.

Book early for single rooms

All of our houses offer a selection of single rooms, both classic and premium. It’s a popular option, so booking well in advance is recommended. HF Members benefit from supplement-free classic single rooms too.

Superior bedroom at Newfield Hall

Excellent value full-board breaks

Three meals a day are always included at our country houses, from hearty breakfasts and personalised picnics, to sociable dinners shared around large tables where conversation and camaraderie become part of the holiday experience.

Seasonal dining, tailored for you

Our team of skilled chefs design our dinner menus to showcase the best of each season, from warming winter comfort food to vibrant summer dishes, including vegetarian, vegan and high-protein options.

We also source fruit and vegetables within a 40-mile radius of each house, open every break with a Chef’s Special menu inspired by dishes and flavours of the local area, and are able to adapt dishes to suit special dietary requirements.

Welcome cream tea

What better way to start your stay than with a cream tea, served fresh on arrival to make you feel instantly at home. A quintessentially English tradition, our scones are baked in-house and served with preserves and clotted cream, providing the perfect opportunity to meet fellow holidaymakers.

Our famous picnic lunch

Our personalised picnic lunches are perfect for a day out, ready to enjoy when hunger strikes. Choose from a large selection of fresh sandwiches and salads, freshly baked cakes and snacks, including the ever-popular Freddo chocolate bar! Everything is designed to fit neatly into your rucksack, and all of the packaging we provide is recyclable or compostable.

A hearty breakfast to start the day

Start the day with a freshly-prepared cooked breakfast and a wide choice from our continental buffet, including hot drinks, juices and fresh fruit. Our teams offer a quick and friendly service, leaving you fuelled and ready for your day’s adventures.

3-course evening meals

Our à la carte evening menus feature a wide choice of starters, mains, and desserts, made with seasonal ingredients and, wherever possible, herbs and vegetables from our own gardens. Around shared dining tables, dinners are relaxed occasions, with drinks available to order at the table or from the bar, and a traditional Sunday roast to round off the week.

Changes to travelling to Europe from the UK

A new entry & exit system (EES)

Starting in October 2025, a new Entry/Exit System (EES) will replace passport stamping when entering the EU - you’ll be asked to provide a photo and fingerprints at a kiosk. You don’t need to apply for anything before you travel. These changes are designed to make travel safer and more efficient but may lead to delays at the border as the new system is phased in.

A European Travel Information & Authorisation System

While the date has not yet been confirmed by the EU, in 2026, you’ll need to apply online for ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System), a quick and simple travel authorisation, similar to the US ESTA. It will cost 20 Euro and be valid for three years. There’s no fee for over 70s, but you will still need to apply.

See gov.uk/guidance/eu-entryexit-system for more information, and our team is here to help if you need support with the process.

Our experienced, knowledgeable, and friendly Sales & Support team is available to answer any specific questions and can offer guidance on the holiday best suited to your needs.

We are open Monday to Friday 9am – 5.30pm and Saturday & Bank Holidays: 9am – 1pm. Please note our phone lines are closed on Sunday.

Becoming an HF Holidays member

You can become an HF Holidays member with a one-off purchase of a minimum of 100 x £1 shares.
