Walking and activity holidays across the British Isles 2025
As an established co-operative, owned by and run for the benefit of its 40,000+ members, we believe that the true spirit of adventure lies in sharing it with others. Social experiences are a big focus on our holidays. We invite couples, families, friends, clubs, colleagues, and solo travellers, both members and non-members, to walk together as one.
HF Holidays was founded by Thomas Arthur Leonard OBE, a country pastor turned social innovator. In the late 19th century, he pioneered walking holidays for factory workers, establishing the Co-operative Holiday Association in 1893 before founding HF Holidays in 1913. Below the summit of Cat Bells in the Lake District, a plaque honours him as the 'Father of the Open-Air Movement.'
To this day, our members sit at the heart of everything we do. We use money generated from the sale of membership shares and any surplus to continually expand and enhance our country houses, helping sustain the quality of the holiday experiences we offer all guests.
When you become a member, you'll be rewarded with exclusive benefits too. Visit hfholidays.co.uk/member to find out more or call us to join today.

“We are less than a mile from both wonderful countryside and a beautiful beach. Our coastal walks are breathtaking and the view from the top of Roseberry Topping on a clear day is just amazing. We have the best summer sunsets here in our beautiful North Yorkshire and we love our quirky local beers from Robin Hood’s Bay Brewery.”
