Alternator/water pump drive belt

Risk of injury from rotating fan blades and running V-belts. Shut off the engine before opening the engine compartment. Risk of burning caused by hot engine, exhaust and radiator parts. Start maintenance and repair works only after engine, exhaust and radiators have cooled down.

Drive belt maintenance specifications

• Visual inspection: every 10 hours or daily • Belt tension check: every 250 operating hours • Belt replacement: every 2000 operating hours Unlock the engine compartment cover with lever (101, Fig. 1) and open it (see "Engine hood").

Visual inspection

• Check the drive belt visually for cracks and damage. • The belt must be replaced, if 1. longitudinal cracks and transverse cracks intersect (Fig. 2, 1: replacement not necessary. 2: replacement necessary);

If an air conditioner is installed, the compressor must be loosened and the belt removed.

Fig.:4 • Tilt the automatic belt tensioner (3, Fig. 3) backwards using a special flex head square spanner (arrow, Fig. 4) and remove the used belt from alternator, water pump, deflection pulleys and belt pulley. • Place the new belt in correct position over belt pulley, water pump, alternator and deflection pulleys. • Set the automatic belt tensioner back to its tensioning position. • No other adjustments are necessary.
