The 30MB3 miner drilling capabilities consist of a single roof drilling unit per side on a traversing slide. The roof rigs are independently mounted to a shield which is coupled to the gathering head chassis and the rib drilling unit is mounted to the mainframe chassis. The units are operated from the ground level via remote rig controls mounted off the track frames.

Articulating Temporary Roof Support - ATRS
The Temporary Roof support system consists of two cylinders, one each side of the machine located in the gathering head in bye of the Roof drilling rigs. The cylinders are operated via the transmitter and can only be operated whilst you are in BOLTING mode. When the selector valve is placed in bolting mode, oil is directed to the drilling rigs. A diversion valve on the right hand side of the machine, situated above the main mode selector valve, is then positioned in the ATRS mode, directing the oil onwards to the cylinders.
By operating the [SHIFT] and ATRS UP or ATRS DOWN toggles on the transmitter, the cylinders will raise or lower in the desired direction.
When the cylinders are set to the roof, pressure is detected by a pressure switch. Once pressure has been detected, two pips will be heard from the banshee. This will also be known by a message on the main screen that ATRS mode is initiated.
When the ATRS cylinders are set to the roof and the main mode selector valve (MINING / MAINTENANCE / BOLTING) is selected in mining mode, the pumps will stop. Thus, this is protection of the ATRS cylinders via the pressure switches.
The machine is also fitted with two proximity switches, one each ATRS cylinder. These proximity switches indicate whether the cylinders are fully parked or retracted.
If for any reason the ATRS cylinders are not fully retracted and the operator proceeds to select MINING mode, a message will be displayed on the main screen – ATRS park switch fault and the machine will not be able to be operated for mining functions.
