OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 6015 / RH40E Inspection and servicing

Cooling System

Read and observe: "Inspection and servicing - Safety instructions".

Secure the machine as described in the "Securing the machine" section.

Shut off the engine and allow to cool down.

Risk of scalding from hot cooling liquid.

Collect escaping cooling liquid and discard without polluting the environment.

Protect the skin from contact with cooling liquid.

Skin contact with cooling liquid is a potential health hazard.

Wear protective gloves and firm working clothing.

Temperature

The cooling-liquid circuit is controlled by a thermostat. The maximum admissible temperature is ca. 100° C / 212° F. In case of higher temperatureswarning lamp on satellite illuminated - locate cause and rectify.

Cooler and cooling liquid

Risk of falling

Put on a safety harness before working on the superstructure. Attach the safety line to eyelets or railings (arrows, Fig. 3-19:).

The cooler (1, Fig. 3-19:) is located on the superstructure.

 Check the cooler fins for dirt before every workshift and clean, if necessary.

 Check the coolant level at the indicator (3, Fig. 3-20:). The coolant level should be between the “FULL” and the “LOW” mark.

An insufficient coolant level is also indicated by means of a warning lamp in the control satellite.

 Top up with coolant, if necessary.

Topping up with coolant

Changing the coolant

Read and observe: Inspection and servicing – Safety instructions.

Risk of scalding from hot cooling liquid. The coolers may also be hot.

Wear protective gloves and firm working clothing. Collect escaping coolant and discard without polluting the environment.

Change the cooling agent regularly and after 6000 operating hours (OH) at the latest.

Fig. 3-21:

Risk of scalding from hot cooling liquid under pressure. Open radiator cap cautiously.

 Turn the cap (2, Fig. 3-21:) into the first notch to reduce the pressure in the reservoir.

 After depressurization turn the cap into the open position and remove.

 Fill cooling liquid into the cooling system through the filler tube (2).

Do not add cold coolant when the engine is still at operating temperature.

Let the engine cool down to below 50 °C (122°F) before adding coolant.

 Screw on the cap (2).

For topping up the cooling system use only the cooling agent CAT ELC - Bucyrus HEX P/N 2482777 - which is specially adapted to these engines. The coolant offers frost protection down to –37°C (-34.6°F).

After topping up with coolant run the engine for a short time to remove air inclusions before filling the reservoir with coolant up to the mark on indicator (3).

In the case of significant coolant losses check the entire cooling system for leaks.

Check all lines regularly for leaks and all hose clamps for tightness.

 Prepare a collecting recipient for used cooling liquid. Choose the required recipient capacity in accordance with the "Refilling quantitiesOther" table.

 Shut off the engine, allow to cool down.

Risk of scalding from hot coolant under pressure. Open the cap of the expansion reservoir carefully.

 Turn the cap (2, Fig. 3-21:) into the first notch to reduce the pressure in the reservoir..

 After depressurization turn the cap into the open position and remove.
