OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 6015 / RH40E Operation

Starting And Stopping The Engine

Starting the engine

Start and operate combustion engine only on well-ventilated premises.

In closed rooms, exhaust gases must be evacuated to the outside.

Do not work on the exhaust system an do not make any modifications to it; Exhaust gases from diesel engines and some of their constituents may cause cancer, birth defects and other reproductive harm.

Stop the engine immediately

 if the monitoring device (1, Fig. 2-41:) shows a malfunction of the engine after starting,

 if an acoustik warning sounds from the warning device (4), and / or the warning lamp

 hydraulic system (5)

 alternator (12) lits up.

Locate cause of the fault and rectify before restarting the engine.

 Turn speed control knob (70, Fig. 2-40:) counter-clockwise to the limit stop (idling).

 Insert key into key-switch (72) and turn right to position 3.

 Release key after the engine has fired.

Allow engine to run at idling for at least 5 minutes before running it at full load.

Repeat the starting procedure if the engine does not fire. Repeat starting procedure not more often than 3 to 4 times. Do not operate the starter for more than 10 seconds.

Starting the engine at low temperatures

If the machine is used in low temperatures, the engine may be equipped with a cold-starting device.

The pressure vessel containing the cold-starting fluid (ether) can be installed in or near the engine compartment.

The vessel is screwed into an electro-mechanical metering valve. When the engine is started at temperatures below 0°C (32°F), this valve is activated automatically by the engine electronics and injects a precisely metered amount of cold-starting fluid into the air intake duct of the engine.

Ether is toxic and highly inflammable. Safety instructions and information concerning the handling of pressure vessels for cold-starting fluids (ether) can be found in the following chapters: "Fundamental safety instructions", "Inspection and servicing - Safety instructions", "Cold-starting fluid (ether) - Replacing the pressure vessel".
