Additionally, we offer VOLUME BUYERS the opportunity to purchase the entire draft as PICK or PAIR, from Lot 11 to Lot 283. No other Angus sale in the southern hemisphere provides this extensive selling option. Notably, we will feature

84 brothers of Texas THUNDERSTRUCK, Australia’s highest-priced all breeds bull record holder, who sold for $360,000 at last year’s bull sale.Just to give you a snapshot of the quality and evenness of this draft, the bull photos below are of Lots 281, 205 & 242!

This year marks Texas Angus 88th year of breeding stud Angus cattle. Texas Angus was established in QUEENSLAND with 22 REGISTERED HEIFERS and one Stud sire that were IMPORTED from SCOTLAND back in 1936 by the Scottish Australian Company. Every one of the 900+ females at Texas Angus all relate back to these 22 females and never has another female line ever been introduced since then. At Texas we take TEMPERAMENT seriously. That’s why we implemented a docility scoring system for both our weaners and their mothers 20 years ago. Every calf that’s born at Texas Angus is weighed and tagged at birth and the mother’s protectiveness is scored. Any cows that display aggressive behaviour towards us are culled at weaning as we have found a strong

correlation of the dam’s behaviour and her progeny. Since implementing this system, we are able to comfortably tag every calf at Texas Angus with their mothers standing quietly beside us without any need to invest in a caged calf catcher. No dogs are allowed at tagging as our cows will become extremely aggressive. At the end of the day, temperament is an OH & S issue for the entire beef industry and its paramount for any seedstock breeder to take this seriously. Good temperaments will not only improve meat quality, increase MSA compliance (by lowering PH levels) but increase weight gains, quicker recovery from transportation and general contentment in cattle which increases PROFITS.

The Texas herd is run like any commercial herd, we certainly DO NOT early wean to improve fertility rates, our weaners are weaned at 7-9 months like most commercial breeders. Early weaning goes against our breeding fundamentals, all our heifers and cows are expected to raise a quality calf and rebreed under COMMERCIAL REALITY in a grassland environment. All of our weaned calves go back onto subtropical grasses and then transition onto multi species crops. We are hearing too many seedstock operations opting for early weaning “for supposed management purposes” but we feel they are compromising their fertility and maternal traits as well having to lot feed the calves and some staying in the feedlot till they are sold at their bull sale!

All clients and potential buyers have the ASSURANCE that our bulls we sell each year are BACKED by our continued commitment and success of BENCHMARKING our herd against all breeds and crosses in Australia’s LARGEST and most competitive FEEDER CARCASE TRIALS year in year out. We always back up our claims with factual information and all our carcase data is continually being analysed by the Angus breedplan database. Our breeding program has ALWAYS been focused on PROFITABILITY and in a nutshell we are all about breeding functional fertile females that produce kgs/ha, MSA compliance and we all know what we are paid on and that’s WEIGHT.

This year we will also offer 100+ Texas pedigree bred commercial heifers that have been inseminated to THUNDERSTRUCK, ICEMAN, POWERPLAY, POWERSHIFT & QUANTUM LEAP and backed up to Texas low birth weight bulls. This is a GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY to access 100% Texas genetics of such a high quality and is the perfect avenue for anyone wanting to build or start a commercial herd with such elite genetics. And this will be Australia’s first opportunity to purchase PTIC heifers in calf to THUNDERSTRUCK! The heifers will be sold in Lots of 10 and classed on type and breeding. They will start from Lots 1 -10.

All sale bull lots are offered under a multi-hammer system, winning bidder can choose to take the pair or the pick of the pair not necessarily in lot order, if only one is chosen the remaining will be offered.

1. HEALTH – All have the Texas Tick of Approval, buy with confidence.

• Sale bulls only Vaccinated for Red Water (Tick Fever) NOT Heifers.

• Tested Free of Pesti Virus, But are NOT Vaccinated for Both Pesti Virus or 3 Day Sickness

5. Insurance is available from the agents at the sale.

6. Delivery of each animal will be at the buyers risk after the fall of the hammer, but will be cared for by the vendors for a reasonable amount of time.

7. Transport – All transport coordination will be done through acting agent in conjunction with FALLS LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT immediately after the sale. Lachie Falls is the representative (Mobile 0429 826 342). Any client wishing to use their own or preferred transport is more than welcome to do so but MUST be coordinated through Lachie Falls immediately after the sale. Texas Angus recommends Falls Livestock Transport for long distance cartage.

8. Verbal instructions will not be accepted. Please complete the buyers instruction sheet included in the catalogue and present to the agents.

9. Any announcement will take precedence over printed material in this catalogue. Terms and conditions of sale will be read by the agents prior to the sale.

10. The sale will be held at “Doongara” under cover. Warialda APEX will cater and the MACKA’s Angus steaks will be for lunch.

11. The owner, employee or other affiliated personal cannot be held responsible for any accidents, but will make every effort to provide for the safety and comfort of those attending.

TEMPERAMENT would have to be our number one selection criteria at Texas! Not only are we super critical with all bulls we sell, the ones we keep, purchase and inseminate with, but every cow at Texas is analysed not only at weaning for docility but at calving as well.

For us it’s an OH&S importance, we tag and process all new borns and the mother is always recorded for protectiveness. If any aggressive behaviour is displayed these females are culled and we’ve found a strong correlation between the dam’s aggressive behaviour and how it influences her progeny’s behaviour.

No working dogs are allowed when weighing and tagging new born calves as our cows will become extremely protective of their calves which is an excellent protective instinct required for wild dogs or dingos.

As a result of stringent observations of the temperament of our herd, Ben and Hayden can comfortably tag and weigh every calf (900+) with their mother standing quietly beside them without any need to invest in a caged calf catcher.
