This year marks Texas Angus’s 90th year of breeding Angus cattle in Australia.
What began in 1936 by the Scottish Australian Company importing 21 stud heifers and 1 bull from Scotland has grown into a herd of 1,000 breeders, built on a simple philosophy - breeding functional, fertile, profitable cattle backed by strong maternal lines year-on-year. It’s worth noting every single cow in our herd all trace back to those Scottish heifers imported 90 years ago and no outside maternal line has ever been introduced since.
As we reflect on the past 90 years, we are incredibly grateful to our clients, staff, family members and industry supporters who have contributed to the Texas Angus story.
While much has changed over nine decades, our focus remains the same: Producing genetics that add value throughout the entire beef supply chain.
THE MARKET
How good is the current cattle market? Recent widespread rainfall across Central and Northern NSW and Southern Queensland has injected enormous confidence into the industry and sent cattle prices on a strong upward trajectory. Combined with the female herd liquidation across Southern Australia over the past two years and the substantial cattle turn-off throughout Northern NSW and Southern Queensland this year, breeding female numbers have tightened significantly. As always, supply and demand will determine the market, and all indicators suggest a positive outlook for producers.
Internationally, the fundamentals are equally strong. The U.S. cattle herd is currently at its lowest level since the 1950s, and economists do not expect a rapid rebuild. During our visit to the United States last year, commercial empty heifers were selling for around $7,000 AUD, while commercial cow-calf units in the UK are currently worth approximately $16,000 AUD. These figures highlight the strength of the global beef market and the growing value of productive breeding females.
Global demand for beef continues to strengthen and Australian producers are well positioned to benefit. Feedlots are increasingly identifying and rewarding cattle that gain weight efficiently, marble well, yield strongly and avoid excessive fat cover. With advances in traceability, genomic technology and individual animal performance monitoring, cattle that can deliver these traits are attracting significant premiums. This is exactly what our breeding program has focused on for the past 15 years.
We have deliberately selected for cattle that are bigger, longer, efficient and profitable - cattle that can pack on the kilos, marble, yield and perform without carrying excessive fat. These genetics improve profitability for every sector of the industry, and we believe our consistent success in the RNA Ekka Paddock to Palate Competition continues to validate this breeding philosophy.
THE BULLS
We are proud to present an outstanding offering of 306 bulls this year.
These are bulls bred to work in commercial environments. Bulls that know how to graze, travel, seek out females, breed naturally and thrive under some of Australia’s toughest conditions.
Our ongoing investment in elite genetics continues to drive improvement throughout the herd, with over 200 bulls in this year’s sale bred through ET, IVF and AI technologies. These programs allow us to rapidly multiply our very best genetics while maintaining the consistency and predictability our clients have come to expect from Texas Angus.
• 35 DEADWOOD sons
• 25 THE ROCK sons
• 23 INTENSITY sons
• 13 BONUS sons
• 10 JAMESON sons
• 9 ICEMAN sons
• 9 EYES ON YOU sons

Among the highlights of the sale are the first sons of the $360,000 THUNDERSTRUCK. These Autumn Yearlings have attracted considerable attention and combine softness, structural integrity, body shape, quiet temperament and overall balance. Importantly, they have been raised under the same commercial conditions as the remainder of the draft, allowing buyers to make genuine comparisons across the offering.
We are also excited to introduce several new sires. Australian-bred additions include THOR, EVEREST, LOTTO and a $46,000 INTENSITY son. We are equally excited to offer the first Australian sons of two highly regarded U.S. sires - Schiefelbein TOP GUN and Basin JAMESON - both recognised internationally for their structural soundness, growth performance and commercial relevance.
For buyers focused on docility, carcase quality and weight gain, the EYES ON YOU progeny deserve close inspection. As always, the sale is strongly represented by ICEMAN, DEADWOOD, CONVERSE, THE ROCK, BONUS and many of our leading Texas herd sires.
Every bull has been genomically tested, scanned, docility tested, framed and fully performance recorded. Averaging a frame score of 6.5, they display the trademark Texas combination of length, extension, body capacity and performance that drives weight gain and profitability.
We are confident there is a bull within this year’s offering to suit every production system and breeding objective.

DEADWOOD is Poss Angus’s highest price bull, selling for a whopping $900,000 USD. Sired by the legendary MAVERICK, DEADWOOD maintains MAVERICK’s carcase and fleshing traits but carries more frame and length of body. His sons were highly sought after at last year’s sale topping at $75,000 for Texas U-CRACKER. To date we have sold 38 sons that are currently averaging $19,000. This year there are so many standout sons and well worth a trip to see them in the flesh. We don’t think you’ll see a line-up of consistent body type, scale, volume and presence than these boys. This will be the last year of DEADWOODs as we only a handful pencilled in for next year. 35 sons sell.

Australia’s highest priced bull selling for $360,000 to Macka’s Angus, THUNDERSTRUCK sons certainly are among the highlights of this year’s sale and they are only autumn yearlings. Considering the very dry summer season these bulls have had to endure, it certainly benchmarked which sire lines could handle the tough conditions and we believe the THUNDERSTRUCK progeny were the top performers. These sons are like peas in a pod, all eye catching, combining softness, quiet temperament, excellent body shape, and overall balance. 8 sons sell.

ICEMAN really stamps his progeny with balance, extra softness, length of body, strong toplines and big broad muzzles with an incredible temperament to go with it. His progeny has topped sales throughout Australia and internationally and it was great to meet many of the international Angus breeders who have used ICEMAN while they were out for the World Angus Forum. Precision grazing made easy
Where eShepherd controls where cattle graze, the StrongBó Auto Weigher measures how they respond.
One system manages the inputs. The other tracks the outcomes.
Weight trends surface within days - not after your next muster. If a mob’s growth rate slips, you can identify the cause and act immediately: adjust the rotation, shift the boundary, change the approach. No yarding. No stress. No lag.
It’s the difference between managing by instinct and managing by data - continuously, automatically, and without adding labour.
And the data compounds. Over time, you build a clear record of which rotations consistently hit target growth rates, which paddocks underperform in dry conditions, and which mobs respond best to intensive cell grazing. Every season, your decisions get sharper.

At Tieyon Station we operate in a harsh Central Australian environment where cattle have to be functional, resilient and easy to manage.
Over many years, Texas Angus bulls have consistently performed for us. Their progeny are thick, quiet, productive cattle that handle our conditions well and continue to meet the demands of our breeding and commercial programs. While the cattle speak for themselves, the real reason we continue to buy Texas genetics is Ben and Wendy. In the time we have known them, they have never stood still. They have embraced low-stress stock handling, explored, and experimented with pasture improvement, soil health and animal nutrition, and have been generous in sharing what they have learnt with fellow producers both in Australia and overseas.
It takes courage to challenge traditional thinking, to remain curious and to be open to new ideas. If you are going to allow a stud to influence the genetic direction of your herd, you need complete confidence that they are breeding cattle with integrity and recommending the right bulls for your operation.
We trust Texas Angus because we trust Ben and Wendy. Their honesty, knowledge and commitment to continuous improvement give us confidence that the bulls we buy are the bulls we need.
