As we reflect on the previous year, it is interesting to recall that we were in the throes of the World Angus Forum this time last year. A lot has happened since then, and we are excited to share those developments with you here.
Since our last newsletter, we kicked off the year with the National Angus Youth Roundup at Australian Equine and Livestock Centre (AELEC) in Tamworth. Four days of jam-packed education, competitions and fun, making lifelong friends and connections.
Our attention then turned to our second World Class Female and Genetics Sale on 12 March, and we were thrilled with the results, especially given the Rain Gods turning off the tap amid an everincreasing drought. Many returning and new clients resulted in spirited bidding both on-property and online. We look forward to all the feedback on your purchases.
We returned to the Sydney Royal Easter Show just two weeks later coming away with five firsts, a second, a third and two fourths, with many
compliments and enquiries about both our Angus Stud and Commercial programs.
Three days later, it was off to King Island for weaning and loading the heavy steers to Greenhams. The lush green pastures and the sound of rain were a welcome distraction from the dust and dry conditions, where silage and hay we had brought in from Victoria to maintain the stud cattle.
Our attention now turns to our very first on-property bull sale on Tuesday, 8 September 2026. We will be offering 30 stud bulls all Genomics, Performance, and Semen tested, with both rising two-year-olds and yearling bulls on offer. More details are in the coming pages.
We also have new genetics on the way including SAV Courage 3003 calves, some very well-related imported embryos from Schaff Angus Valley, and semen in SAV Gravity 4118. In addition, in a very exciting development, Killain Worldwide V53, is on his way to TLG to be collected for export!
NATIONAL ANGUS YOUTH ROUNDUP
Our team of four, attended the National Angus Youth Roundup in early January. Thomas, together with Liv, Breanna and Charlie, braved the heat for four days of not only education and competitions but also invaluable networking with both mentors and peers. Investing in the next generation, we were the shirt sponsor for this Roundup.
All four either won or placed in their paraders. All the cattle either won or placed, with Killain Turning Point W11 (by Baldridge Badger) winning Junior and Grand Champion bull at just 6 months of age, and Thomas was Champion Senior Herdsman. Participants capped off the four days with an Angus dinner celebrating everything Angus and the Youth involvement. Congratulations to Toni Nugent and the entire committee for organising such a fabulous event.
SYDNEY ROYAL EASTER SHOW
We returned to the Sydney Royal Easter Show with considerable success, seeing wins in the Sires Progeny Group (Baldridge Badger), Dams Progeny Group (Killain Blackcap May 2 N6), Two Bulls not over 24 months, Angus Bull 9 and under 12 months, and the Angus Heifer 16 and not over 18 months.
In addition, second in the Angus Bull 18 and not over 19 months, third in the Angus Breeders Group, Fourth Angus Heifer 9 and not over 12 months and Angus Cow over 36 months.
Thank you to the entire team for their help and expertise, not only during show week but also in the lead-up, as it certainly takes a village!

Killain Turning Point W11 and Killain Worldwide V53
This month will see the arrival on Australian shores of embryos from Schaff Angus Valley by Baldridge Badger from the 8th Generation Pathfinder dam Killain Madame Pride 9170 by SAV President 6847.
These embryos are full siblings to the Select Sires SAV Beneficial 4253, currently marketed by World Wide Sires in Australia. Beneficial was the second- highest-selling Baldridge Badger son at the 2025 SAV Sale, selling for $135,000 USD to Palmer Angus.
Beneficial is also a maternal brother to SAV Bench Press 1363 featured at Genex AI Stud. We cannot wait to calve down the resulting progeny at Killain Angus in 2027
Featured in our last newsletter, SAV Gravity 4118 (AAA * 21068090) semen is due to arrive in time for the 2026 Spring joinings.
Gravity was the $240,000 dominant son of SAV Glory Days 1832 at the 2025 Schaff Angus Valley Sale. Sound structure, large scrotal and superb feet. Gravity balances phenotype, performance and maternal quality and is sure to follow the legends in his pedigree. Gravity offers tons of muscle, volume, and massive dimension in a power-punching package.
SAV Beneficial 4253
The first SAV Courage 3003 calves have arrived in Australia, with our embryo calves born, and will certainly be a feature of future Female and Bull Sales.
Courage is a calving-ease specialist, with explosive growth balancing phenotype, performance and maternal with high fertility!
KILLAIN WORLDWIDE V53
Killain Worldwide V53, Baldridge Badger x Killain Blackcap May 7 Q3 (SAV Raindance 6848), is on his way to TLG, Victoria, to be collected for export, having passed all his pre-quarantine testing.
Worldwide is being collected for export after William McLaren of Netherton Angus, Scotland, purchased a semen interest after seeing him at an on-farm property tour during the AngusEXPO in Tamworth.
We are incredibly excited that Worldwide will represent Killain Angus on the world stage.

KING ISLAND WEANING TIME
Three days after returning home from the Sydney Royal Easter Show it was time to head to King Island for weaning. King Island is having a wonderful season with the Autumn break arriving.
It was refreshing to see the lush green pastures and hear the sound of rain, in direct contrast to the conditions we face here in Tamworth and in significant areas of NSW. Weaning saw a significant shift in the breeding of our commercial Angus herd, with all calves being by Killain Angus bulls, as well as calves by Baldridge Badger and Killain Rainman P1.
Two significant observations from the previous couple of weaning times are that the average weaning weight increased by 50 kgs and the consistency in the weaners was incredibly even. The heaviest weaner came in at 390kgs for a Baldridge Badger steer, closely followed by a heifer at 382kgs by a son of SAV Bloodline 9578.
In addition, we have completed our Thompson Longhorn cattle yards. Ben organised the whole concept at the 2024 Rockhampton Beef Week to completion with owner Byron Wolff. The finish and attention to detail were second to none, and we are very happy with the final product. Ben has also enjoyed some time off the island with trips to Sydney Royal, Meatstock, Farmworld, and Agfest.

FAMILY MATTERS
Ben has been busy running the King Island properties, not only weaning but also loading the heavy steers for Greenhams, Tasmania, to make way for the weaners coming behind.
The first steers left in March at 17-18 months of age, with the majority leaving at the beginning of May. The top marbling steer so far has been a 6, with quite a few 5s and 4s, which is pretty amazing considering their age and that they are purely grass-fed. Ben was interviewed on the Karl Stefanovic Show, the day before our Female Sale, about the global fuel supply crisis. If you would like to watch, scan the QR code
Thomas has returned home from Brisbane and, together with helping run the Killain Angus Stud herd, is taking up his love for horses through the discipline of cutting. Yes, he has taken Susie to the dark side, as she refers to it, after years of competing in the show horse and dressage disciplines. Thomas headed off to the USA at the beginning of May to pursue this passion, and what a start. At his very first competition in the USA, he was the 5/6 Year Old Non Pro Champion in El Rancho, California, with his horse Smooth Bad! We look forward to welcoming him home at the end of July in time for final Bull Sale preparations.
