MANUAL SKILLS

I am fond of being involved in the process of designing and exploring varied designing approaches responding to the contextual frame. I personally enjoy knowing about different places and their socio-cultural aspects which helps me in conceptualizing design philosophies. I also look forward in learning about different material explorations and design interventions.

MATERIAL STUDIO Multipurpose Convention Center Riverfront, Ahmedabad Material: Bricks This studio looks at the role of material in the design of an architectural project and to understand how material plays an important role in architectural expression, also how material can be used in different ways to achieve a specific architectural purpose.

To enhance river view all the functions were divided according to the levels in which the steps itself becomes a gathering space creating small pocket spaces in between, also each space has different volumes composed inside 2 panels.

HOUSING STUDIO Rapid Housing (for Migrant Workers) Bopal, Ahmedabad The intent of the project is to sensitize towards the design of public housing and the issues arising from them. The program will inculcate sensitivity towards integrating their design projects into the city plan and its development, public housing, infrastructure conditions, public and civic facilities. The design process primary looks into three scales for the housing project- unit level, cluster level, and site level. The unit was derived by understanding the minimum spaces needed to perform different activities specific to the user group which is migrant workers. 01

PEOPLE AND PLACES Anganwadi Nashik, Maharashtra The intent of the program was to create a multi-purpose learning place for children of various age groups, which, after they leave, can also be used as a community gathering space for the people leaving nearby. The project required multifunctional design elements which gave flexibility in the adapting the spaces. The idea was to play with the scales of spaces and levels as it was for kids as well as sometimes it can act as a community center. The project opens inwards towards the river.

MANDVI (RSP) Ship Documentation Mandvi, Kutch The objective of this workshop was to learn to make correlations about the environment in which the tradition influences the lifestyle and to observe and document the impact of this co-relation on the built environment and activities. It also aimed at understanding the cultural representation and documentation of knowledge that is present on-field, both architectural and anthropological. Through interactions with experts, the students were exposed to the influence of Mandvi’s maritime location on the emergence of shipbuilding as a prime craft of the region

NASHIK (RSP) Wada Documentation Panchvati, Nashik Nashik was once ruled by Marathas and its impact is clearly seen on the Wada typology of house-form, which is beautifully crafted in wood and brick and is strategized according to the context and climatic conditions of the city. This study includes documentation of Wada typology. AMBEYKAR WADA This is a 250-year-old Wada, which was originally owned by a Brahmin family. The type of this Wada is ‘GAIDHANI Wada’ which is clearly seen by a separate basement and storage space adjacent to the entrance of the Wada.

COLLABORATIVE Reinterpreting Surfaces Bhuj, Kutch Reinterpreting surfaces ‘Catalonian way’, was a winter collaborative program hosted jointly by Indus University and Studio Dot. The collaboration was conducted in Bhuj, kutch. The ethos of this collaboration was to introduce a new technique ‘Catalonian shell, using these clay tiles. This includes the exploration of the properties of tiles and their structural use. This book talks about the practical application of the material, which makes it easier to understand its properties.
